I have severe hypothyroidism and although I still have thick hair, it’s not as thick as it used to be. My hair never grew past my shoulder blades until I started using minoxidil, taking a regular multi-vitamin (I don’t eat very much & need my minerals while keeping my weight in check since I gain it so easily and don’t want to gain back the 30 pounds I lost), and I began using men’s 5% generic minoxidil once daily. My hair has grown so much over the past year and a half! Never have I had such long hair that just kept growing. I love this stuff. Got me a 6 month supply for $18 at Walmart. I only do it once a day but it does make my scalp itchy.t husband has been using it for 3 years and that stuff did wonders for him. I think it’s because he started taking care of his hair as soon as he realized it was beginning to thin. He didn’t wait until there was an obvious bald spot. From what I understand, the earlier on you treat it, the better. And it’s best for people with male pattern baldness rather than someone dealing with another underlying medical condition that’s causing the hair loss.

Why do I feel so trapped 😞 I am only 19 and I have severe hairloss and everywhere they are telling there is no cure for hair loss I google hairloss every day thinking to get some positive treatments I don't want to use minoxidil for ever my ferritin is 22 and my vitamin d is 16 I also have hypothyroidism but I am taking medication and supplements for all this and I don't see any results I feel like I will lose all my hair in my 20s I am soo stuck what should I do? Thats a bad example. No one cares if anyone is bald, it only looks bad when you are balding and still tryna keep it long. Use minoxidil or rock the clean shaven look.

Can I ask you, how much foam do you use? Do you use it on your entire scalp or just the top and front? The reason I'm asking is that only half a cap full of foam (the instructions say to use no more than half a cap full) will only be enough to treat a small area on top/front. I have hair shedding all over but that little foam is not enough for the entire head

​@@Asa-wv1zbit might be too late to answer but ive heard that it's fine if you can only put minoxidil just over small areas because it will get absorbed into the scalp & goes into the blood stream, so it's ok if some parts are not covered it will eventually get there. or maybe u can switch, use it over the front scalp in the morning and back at night 😅

@@MajidAli-qe3yj you are shedding all the new hair that grew in the last 6 months. Unfortunately you have to use this everyday or at least on a regular basic, it’s a long term commitment, this has happened to me ever time I’ve stopped using it . I set a reminder on my phone every night so I don’t forget to use it . If you don’t think you can commit to this routine, it’s best not to start it again, even when the hair shedding stops you have to continue with the product

I tried Minoxidil for almost a year and it didn't work. I'm so disappointed. My hair loss continues to worsen. I waited for a year to see a dermatologist only to be seen by an associate. It was a complete waste of time. I still don't have a diagnosis. My hair does not grow back once it falls out.

minoxidil works great until your body builds a tolerance to it and it is no longer effective. Then the shedding comes back with a vengeance. I’ve been through the cycle twice.

Exactly! I' ve been using minoxidil since April 2020, had 3 months shedding at first, then, until July 2021 beautiful results, full, thicker hair strands. And starting July 2021, all of a sudden, the hair started shedding, and now I' m at my 4th month of shedding.

If you don't necessarily have hair loss and use this. Would you have more hair loss then prior or would your hair return to what it was, and you would notice more shedding.

This is not the case. It's actually a very normal progression, which is called "Hair Growth Cycles". Hair are going through different stages of growth all the time, whether you have any hair loss or not. In short - it will go back to how it was just a few months before shedding. Don't panic! :)

I've been noticing some big blue bulging veins on my forehead and under my eye. Since minoxidil is a vasodilator, could it be the cause? If so, any suggestions on how I can use it without that response? Ty!

The hair specialist I visited, prescribed me a serum whose main ingredient is Aminexil( Diaminopyrimidine oxide). The information pamphlet says that it's a similar compound to minoxidil but gentler, without the possibile side effects i.e. scalp irritation, redness & itching. What are your thoughts? Do you think that this compound is as effective as the commonly prescribed minoxidil?

So I’ve been having fall out from the root….The past couple of days I haven’t had as much come out. I just tried this with rosemary and gently massage my head for 4 minutes and I just had a lot of fall out. Any explanation? My doctor told me to buy rogaine but I wanted a more nature way to do it so I’ve done research on rosemary and like what you said it’s just about as affective. Does massaging your head cause more fallout to help regrowth?

Tons of guys have had success with this. However, it is incredibly drying so you need to find a moisturizer that works well for your skin. Don't put moisturizer on for the first 4 hours after you apply to get the most effects. Lots have said that using it daily makes it the most effective. I just started using it a few weeks ago. Most important thing is that once you've applied it, thoroughly wash anywhere on your body the minox has touched and never let your pets or any animals near your face or whatever sit you applied it on.

What about using it to grow a beard when first starting testosterone therapy as a trans person? Would the beard stay because it wasn't hair loss prior?

This makes no sense. If it's a progressive problem it should happen little by little. Why would the hair that would have fallen in the last 6 months fall all at once when you stop using it

You mentioned untreated hair loss at the end. How do we treat hair loss? Because when I go to a dermatologist for hair loss, they recommend me minoxidil. Did you mean PRP?

There are many types of hair loss - from poor nutrition or stress which will reverse itself once the cause is treated, medical alopecia which is typically autoimmune related in which case that underlying condition would need to be addressed to halt that type of hair loss, androgenic hair loss which is the classic male/female pattern baldness which can only be treated by medications like finasteride and is only available if you're male or a female out of child bearing years. If you're not treating the cause of your specific hair loss type then using minoxidil is not going to do much for you. That's why for men the most effective treatment for male pattern baldness is to first stabilize the hair loss with medication, and then attempt to get regrowth from the minoxidil. Did the dermatologist diagnose you with a specific form of alopecia? That would dictate how you'd treat it.

I absolutely have nothing, blood results are normal, nothing is wrong with my autoimmune system or hormones, but I have been losing hair for a long time. My ponytail keeps shrinking every year and I couldn't find any other solution then minoxidil which is a bit disheartening thinking of its results being temporary. I started searching procedures but good to know that there might be other medication options. Thanks

yes you can. some people take it every other day and it still works for them. starting off though, you should do it everyday until you get the results you want.

It’s frustrating because no matter where I turn to online, doctors and dermatologists alike recycle the SAME exact vague information (use rogaine, minox, etc.) that are only temporary solutions. My lip started twitching since I switched from Rogain to Hers.

Hi I am a female, age 32. Currently, I have continuous hair falls with clumps of hair with white bulbs. I used minoxidil in two phases - a) 3 weeks of 2% minoxidil use (Oct2022) and b) 2 days of 5% minoxidil use (Mar2023). It creates bald spots/hair thinning - are they reversible? Also, can minoxidil result in continuous shedding, even after months of stopping using it? When will it stop? I feel after stopping Minoxidil - it not only thins hair but also results in clumps of hair falling. Before I started minoxidil in Oct - my hair condition was much better - at least not clumps of hair fall. Kindly reply to me.

Bald spots sound more like alopecia. Not something minoxidil should cause. Go speak to your doctor/dermatologist. It can be caused by many things

Hello, what you’re experiencing is exactly what I’m afraid of!! I so sorry your going through this, its already a depressing event as is but to have medication make it worst is devastating. I hope you’re doing better. Did you stop using Minoxidil? Have you seen a doctor to find other alternatives?? Did you use oral med or foam?

What about in beard ??

if you're a lucky person like me all it'll do is give you a growing worsening headache every day until you have to stop because it's unbearable.

It's bcoz there is no baldness like thing for beard either you have it or don't have it Whatever hair he grew with minoxidil weren't subjected to any thinning unlike the temple or crown hairs so they stayed on

And that’s why I discontinued using it. Didn’t see the point. Any growth that you get while using won’t remain. I went to a naturopath to get a natural remedy an see why my hair was falling in the first place.

Prior to this I had used steroid this an steroid tht I got side effects on my skin plus new growth tht wld all fall out. That is not the way to go. He wanted to do some blood work as well a stress test to see if my adrenaline was high. At the time I was also seeing a neurologist,Endocronologist,and Derm bc I kept getting headaches as well. The naturopath gave me a melatonin(compound med) to try. I had no problem to try it is bc it’s natural an it wldnt make any new growth fall out. I realized I was under a lot of chronic stress at the time an needed to change certain things. I’m much happier now an my hair has grown back an still is. Everyone’s reason for hair loss is different. Ppls bodies deal with things differently but it cld also be an underlining issue so get it checked out.

Theirs mutliple shedding stages you’ll go through every few years with this. The longer you use it the less it works. I’m using it just to keep what I have before I get my transplant, then I’m switching to topical finasteride as well as maybe staying on rogaine.
