it is for the larger species like fallow, Chinese water deer and red deer. But you can shoot roe and muntjac with any center-fire rifle, in Scotland at least

I have a Remington .222 also. it drops whitetail just like that roe you shot. I reload. what load are you using? The .222 is one of the most accurate calibers ever made.

It seems like an under powered cartridge for deer. You can't stabilize anything over about 52 grains. It was very effective though on a small deer at fairly close range. In the US few hunters would use such a light bullet for white tail deer but they run bigger and we are permitted all sorts of options over here.

I live up in northern Canada and hunt 350lb barren ground caribou with 222 Remington, although i never stretch the distance passed 250 metres anything further I use 243
