He will be forever missed by me and I always smile when someone mentions his name. Rest in peace Rodney you were a legend and still are, you got my respect. Thank you. I recorded this off HBO back when the controller for the cable box was tethered and had a separate button for each channel. Bob Nelson's bit was the highlight of the show, but Sam Kinison, Yakov Smirnoff, and even Bob Saget were all great. That VHS tape was probably stretched an extra 2 inches from all the times it had to be rewound.

"Dain bramage". I've used that many times since I first saw the HBO special way back then. But I had forgotten where I heard it first. Thanks, Bob! You've added an important term to our cultural discourse.

Me and my old man caught this one night and we laughed our ballad off. I was 12 and I memorized this routine ( before you tube ) so that me and my pops could laugh at it . I used to do this routine for my dads friends and we would all piss ourselves. Yes it’s racist m yes it’s homophobic . Everything I find funny. Bob Nelson was a genius and made fun of everyone equally . What a comic legend. Thanks for the memories Bob .

I remember watching that when it aired. Extremely funny and memorable. I remember Bob doing a stage act perhaps on KERA where he would run in one door that would put him out of the audiences view then come back out another door that would be on the other side of the stage or a story above the floor level. He would literally sprint and come back out a different character. Had to be exhausting but he kept that energy up all the way through. Quite a talent.

This guy is fucking brilliant. One of the funniest comedians I've ever seen, yet he never got the recognition he deserved. They give unfunny comedians like Ray Romano or George Lopez their own T.V. show while Nelson just faded away. It's a shame.

He wasn't as funny after this. He sold out and said this was racist and he wouldn't do it anymore. He got a role in kindergarten cop and that was about it.

My family was hosting extended family for a family reunion when this first came out. One late night we started watching this and my Auntie came back out of the room to watch it because we were laughing so hard. Bob Nelson was the part when she came back out of the room. This entire show was funny as hell though! This was when there were only a couple of TVs in the house.
