One of my favorite poems by the great Rod McKuen. It is a sad day now that I have heard of his passing. His poems and songs have touched my heart as well as the millions of hearts around the world. He was a true artist. There will never be anyone like him again. He had a God given talent and shared it with the world.

I checked out his book Listen To The Warm and this always makes me cry every time. I was born in 1959 and I did not know the cat was deaf..how sad 😢 now I'm crying all over again just watching this dammit!

I didn't know he was deaf, either .I fell in love with this song when I was 19 in 1969. And yes, I, too am crying all over again.

RIP Mr. McKuen. I loved your poems, your songs, and the sound of your voice. Yours was the first book of poetry I ever owned.

Me also.....The only poetry I read/liked was Rod's. What memories....saw him many times in NYC back in the day.

Rod, I too had a cat much like yours.... I loved her so much, that many of my friends called me crazy & some even threatened to kill her, to win me back. I had to have her put down yesterday & it broke my heart. But I just could not see her lose her dignity in suffering, so I took the 'easy way out'... Both for her & myself. I felt such a coward, until I realised that cowards don't do brave things, for others. Especially when it cost him his heart !

I just found this after loving this son back in 1969, when I was a 19 year old girl. I forgot about Rod and his husky voice and sad songs! I really loved these songs and plan to discover them once again! Thanks for uploading Sloopy!

I miss rod mckuen but I also miss this show, which gave a place to such quiet greatness. I can't imagine anyone now having this on but we're the poorer for that. and it's the kids like I was--fifteen when I saw this--that really miss out on having such great memories stored away for life. thanks to rod mckuen but also to mike douglas.

I'm not sure I understand exactly what happened to Sloopy. Did she fall to her death from the window sill or did she jump from the sill and run away. Does anyone know for sure? Please post if you know.
