Rockville Audio RPM 870 6,000 Watt Powered Mixer

The Rockville RPM870 is an 8 channel powered console mixer with USB input. There were a few goals we had when designing this mixer. The first one was it had to have the clearest sound quality with the best quality mic preamps. We manufactured this mixer with XDR2 low noise mic preamps. These are some of the best sounding mic pre’s on the market. They compete in quality with any brand on the market! The next goal we had was versatility. This mixer has aux sends and returns on each channel so you can route your external effects easily. We also built in a 24 bit digital effects processor that sounds great. We didn’t include 99 effects which all sound the same. Rather we included 16 solid effects that are each useful. You can customize each effect in the FX control section of the mixer. The last goal was to include a built-in amplifier that is powerful enough for your main speakers so that you can use this mixer for large events with over 500 guests.
We tested this and we ran the mixer to (2) Mackie C300Z speakers, and even with the volume turned up half way these were filling an extremely large room with sound! We also tested these with dual 15” DJ speakers and really cranked them and the sound of the highs and lows were crisp and clean. The great thing about this is the amp does not overheat even when cranking it for hours straight. The power amp built into this mixer is 500 x 2 RMS @ 8 ohms and 750 x 2 RMS @ 4 ohms. We rate the RMS very strictly the way famous brands like Mackie rate their items. We also supply you with program and peak ratings but RMS is the true continuous output power you should look at.
Other great features are a dual 7 band master EQ, a 4 band EQ on each channel, an EQ kill switch, and pad and solo buttons on each channel. Rounding things out, we added a USB input that has 2 functions. It can play back your audio tracks. But what is really cool is that you can record your main mix onto the USB! We also added Bluetooth to this mixer to give you all the latest and greatest options.

I'm not sure where the stage monitor speaker outputs are to allow separate mix or equalization. Aux maybe ? BTW, best video on this unit. Waiting for mine to arrive. Wanting to master before a live rock show September 16th.

Yes.. you can use and it's recommended to use the aux out for Stage monitoring, my problem with that is, it's only a 1/4 phono out and I believe that's line level passive so you'd have to use powered monitors but it will give you the ability for a left/right plus aux level mix in the channels. Thanks for the compliment, if I can help more let me know also the other version of this mixer is pretty impressive... I believe it's the rpm1470

Great video Mike! I have the same mixer and still learning things about it. My question is, can you run to passive monitors from the "aux" output so the vocalists can have separate control of the total sound coming from mics and other mix? I'm thinking about running my two powered speakers facing the audience along with the two main output speakers as to have four for the house along with the two passive monitors which would be daisy chained from that "aux" out. Will that work or should I incorporate a sub into the loop to achieve the 4 house speaker setup?

  • @DJMikeJames

The aux output (stereo rca) is a line level or passive output, so you could run it to a powered speaker or an Amp, but I don't believe it will run a passive speaker on it's own. However you could run a powered sub off of it and then a passive speaker off of the sub outs

Was rough to find good reviews so I appreciate this video. Looking for opinions. I’ve got an old school Yamaha em300 and it weighs more than I do. I’ve got a group that’s going to be doing small to medium clubs and I was looking to get the 1470 as a replacement since it’s newer and a bit smaller. I’d be looking to mic up the full band and was curious if you thought this would be sufficient enough with 4 or 5 8ohm 500w speakers

Hey thanks, the 1470 is pretty impressive more power than the 870... it is 4ohm stable so you could easily run 4 tops daisy chained together and from what I understand you can also run out of both powered outputs speakon and 1/4 phono although I've yet to try it... from there on your speaker output side you have 4 line level outputs 2 xlr and 2 1/4 phono which you can run to powered subs, tops or monitors and then off those you have a multitude of ways to run speaker options, however if your doing stage monitoring you may want to run off the aux output and use that channel adjustment to fade said performer into they're speaker as best you can... tons of options with these mixers...I personally love mine even though my road case set up is about 100lbs... hope this helps and thanks for watching 👀

You should be able to run RCAs out to your stereo Amp off the RCA outs on the rpm870 or if you have passive outs on your stereo setup you can run those into rpm870 rca inputs and still be able to power passive speakers off rpm870 assuming you main input is running through the stereo setup... difficult to analyze without actually seeing what your doing, but I'll help in any way I can

  • @DJMikeJames

Absolutely 💯! I believe, depending on how they're wired, your dual 15's are more than likely 8ohm along with your subs and this unit is 4ohm stable, so that shouldn't be an issue. However, your issue may be equalization of signal to your subs, unless they have built-in crossovers? Which is why I use powered subs, but I am curious as to how other people run this setup 🤔 so...lemme know! Thanks for watching 👀 and commenting

As far as I know, the dsp effects shouldn't affect your stereo 7/8 input side of your board and should only affect mic in/outputs 1-6... so you could run your music through mic inputs and be able to use dsp effects on those channels... I'm sure you have already, but also make sure you check your effects fader that it's turned up as well as color coordinating dsp effect knobs. I hope this helps 🙏

You can, but it's not recommended. There are 2 sets of passive outs 1/4 phono or trs and xlr on the top of the board that will run powered speakers, but the manufacturer suggests having some type of Amp draw on the board thru the powered speakon or 1/4 phono out of the back of the board. @@djaga215 I can see how my last sentence was confusing. It was worded badly. My response was only towards lugging that thing around and powered speakers which I took as 'effort'. The weight difference between powered speakers and the weight of the mixer is more than the mixer alone and the added effort in raising those speakers on stands is more than the lighter passive ones, and that's for certain types being just 12" cabs. With 15's its even worse. And if your using more than two, its worse yet. You are right about needing stands to reach the back of just about any room. I wasn't suggesting that.
