Rockford Fosgate Punch Power 50M amp dyno run old school cheater amplifier 0.25 low ohm test & guts
Ғылым және технология
In this video i show an old school cheater mono amp from 1996 made by rockford fosgate.
Rockford rated this amp 200 watts @ 1 ohm.
I found an old article from an italian audio magazine where they were at the RTTI and tested the Power 50m with 32 10" 4 ohm woofers.
At the End of this clip i show some internal components of this amp
Note that this is a resistive load test which is harder for the amp than with speakers which impedance is higher and not fixed.
Tested with 1 kHz burst signal.
I introduce my new dummy load, now i got 8 resistors, 4 x 1 ohm resistors 1000 watts each and another 4 resistors with 3.9 ohms 1000 watts each.
With these resistors i can perform tests with up to 8000 watts of continous power or 24.000 watts short term power.

Back in the day I ran a punch 60 bridged into 1.33 ohms for almost a year before it got stolen. They were amazing for their time.

I also had a punch 60 running 4 Rockford punch 8's. It was amazing so mine also was stolen. This was circa 1997.
And you’ve got the end caps! Such good times when these workhorses were new. I had 2 each of the DSM series, 40’s, 60’s, 100’s and 3 200’s.

next time i want to test the small punch 40 👍
This is madness LOL. All this power from a 50w amp. Sweet!
I ran 6 punch 15s on a 50m for years and it never missed a beat. The thing hammered. I still have it and the matching 50x2. Used to dominate the 0-100 watt class. Best amps I have ever owned period.

@@chokechange They were Punch 15s I believe they were 100w rms and 250w max. Speakers were so much more efficient and sensitive back then.
Old Fosgates are the shit. Newer ones don't compare. I used to run two 15's and two 8's of a Punch 45x2 back in the late 80's. Never tested the output, but it was loud as hell and the s ubs moved
Amazing regulation in these amps! Good demonstration with a scope and onset of clipping.

The Rockford Fosgate punch series were beast. I have a Rockford Fosgate Punch 200 x2 trans ana ampfier. I have had it for many years now. It has never been opened for anything. They were considered cheater amps back in the day. They were Very underrated amps and you could get into a lower class competition and beat the crap out of everyone with them. Even till this day they are expensive to buy even used. Great video on showing the power that the old school Rockford Fosgate will deliver.

@@audiokeller1975 you can find them here in the US online but they aren't cheap. I've had mine since 2007 and my brother owned it before me. I always keep my eye out for these old school amps.

Awesome amp you own. I have a 45hd from 1992, a 360.2, a punch 4004 and currently run a p1000.1bd in my truck. Always clean underated power!!!

thats a nice lineup of amp-generations. is the 1000.1bd the mono amp in light gray? i have a heatsink and endcaps of a 1000bd which makes 1000 rockford-watts mono into 2 ohms. should be a similar model like yours?
i was without scope. there are Fosgate diagrams to run 64 from 1 amp. we went to 0.06 ohms running about 2000 rms

The 1st, 2nd and 3rd gen Punch amps were bulletproof. I had a 2nd gen Punch 150 (non-HD) that I ran 2 ohms mono for years and never gave me a problem, other than getting hot. I sure miss that amp. 😕

you are correct. here in germany we faced no problems with mono 2 ohms. but some people installed their amps in the glovebox with high outdoor temperatures, so no chance for the semiconductors to breathe was given 🙁 but some of the smaller 4 channel punches dont like 1 ohm per channel. they dont deliver more power then.

Great video and awesome numbers from that PUNCH POWER 50m!!! I will definitely hang on to mine knowing that it could really be brought down to .25 ohm's!!! In the past I had heard that from several people on the internet, but now after watching your video I know it can be done for sure!!! 👍👍👍 Even though I never really had the intention of selling it considering that I brought it with the matching pair of my PUNCH POWER 50x2 amp as well!!! Both amps cost me $545.00 on Ebay back in 2015!!! Would you say that's a good price for both amps considering that they are both in mint condition???

i think in the us the rocks have a much bigger value than here. sometimes you get like new condition amps for under 100 bucks in good working order. i checked ebay in the states - all offers are much higher priced than most of them here. so this is hard to answer.

To run this amp at .25 ohms at 619 watts like it showed in your video, what kind of RMS would a pair of subwoofers have to have each subwoofer???
@audiokeller1975
2 жыл бұрын
you would need a pair of subs with 0.5 ohm each. But you cant compare this because a woofer is not a resistor. a woofer is changing its impedance. impedance rises depending on box design and frequency. the resistor doesnt do that.
I have the chrome RF power 50m I just picked up however it has a different heatsink and 4 flip chips plus a couple switches so cool seeing the same model but I'm guessing different versions. Anyone that can give me any info would be greatly appreciated.
