I used to work in a small car stereo shop in the 90's. We did a custom Astro van with this 1000 RF amp to power 4 custom built 21inch subs from Rockord Fosgate. A 650 RF amp to power a total of 28 speakers, from mid bass, mid range to tweeters. We upgraded the alternator and added an extra marine battery. The amps covers were gold plated any speakers with exposed covers were gold plated,. Do you guys remember the silk dome Punch tweeters and the plates? That truck won a first prize in Las Vegas car show.

I’ve had this amp going on 3 years. I liked it so much I bought another one. One I use in my daily the other I use in a semi. The one in the semi is usually on for 12 plus hours a day and I run it pretty hard. Both amps have been reliable. Thanks for the video and love seeing Sam in the last couple of videos you’ve done 👍

Great review. I have been waiting for an independent dyno test for this amp. The birth sheet might be a tad conservative compared to the results you got. Very impressive. I have this amp running my old school MB Quart PSD 316 set up front, 4”coaxials rears, and 2 JL Audio 10w3’s. Its been in my truck for over a year now. It is an amazing sounding amp. It has allowed me to hear details in my music I hadn’t heard before. One of the the first things I noticed right away was how much more midbass I had and how sharp a snare drum attack was. The set up and gain settings are super convenient and easy. I do need to get a tighter focus on the x-over settings once I get the SMD tool. I also want to upgrade my Kenwood source unit to something a bit different. The only complaint, if it’s really a complaint, would be after sitting over night the fans squeal a little during power up. It goes away after the fans warm up a little. Not a big deal at all though. I’ve run it hard for hours and never had it shut down or roll back. The fans keep it cool and safe. This thing is totally worth the money.

This video helped inform my decision to buy this amp. I have it installed upside-down in a tight, hot, stealth install. I beat the snot out of it regularly. Runs hot to the touch. But has been perfectly reliable. It sounds great too. Much "sweeter" or "warmer" than the Pioneer 9705 (a great budget 5ch BTW) it replaced

Thank you, Big D for not taking the corporate sponsorships from the amp manufacturers... we know & can trust your reviews. PLUS, you actually show the bench testing and bench sheet (results sheet). Around the end of April, I am going to be buying amps again (mostly retro), would like to have them sent to you lt do a vid on (I know that you don't like to do that for liability reasons but I would bot hold you responsible for a blown piece of equipment, blah, blah). My point being, how do we communicate with you directly via email or such? I've been on & off in the game for 25 years (literally) and love the retro equipment. This review blew me away though, as a lifelong Kicker fan/user (I currently have RF R169X3's in my car) but respect the RF beand 'almost' equally. RF took a dip in quality for a while years ago (Best Buy, big box appeasment curse). I am blown away at this amp, really. I was 100% planning on getting an IQ1000.5 (Kicker) but need to rethink it after this video.

Those driver IC's will be very very very difficult to remove and replace once it starts throwing DC output, not to mention those riser boards with all the potting. With surface mount FETs for the sub...don't be running this thing at 1 ohm! Either way, this is definitely a legit amp (like Rockford, Kicker, Alpine, Pioneer, Sony and Kenwood still continue to be), and I've been wanting to see this layout. All the parts are just really really crammed together. As always, this is a great review by Big-D!

I RMA'd it and sold it. I picked up a Hertz amp that I enjoy. The RF T1000x5ad ran very hot even with active (noisy) cooling. The Hertz runs cool comparatively and it is passive.

I have one if these in my GTR. It's a great amp. First one lost the sub channel though after a few hours of use. Was replaced under warranty luckily. Running all my Hertz milli pros and my 8 inch infinity kappa sub in place of factory Bose. All sounds amazing. It's also in a location that has zero airflow because these amps supposedly can handle high temp applications. So far so good. Even running near clipping it has had no temp issues.

@@wal what 8inch sub would you choose with this amp if you had like 7.5 inch depth to work with? I was thinking a kicker L78 Q class since it's one of the highest end subs that will fit. I have a infinity kappa now and it has beautiful sound but I think it's lacking a tiny bit of thump. It barely over powers The Hertz milli pro 6.5 woofers in the doors. Hardest hitting 6.5 full range speakers I have ever heard. I tried a sundown but they have too much cone/mechanical noise to be in the cabin with me.

People are not happy with your test equipment? How much money are they spending watching a KZread video? Yeah I know some people are paying $1 per month but I'm sure you have a lot of freebies as well. I hope they're going to be happy now, analog on one that's going to be quick, digital on the oscilloscope that's going to be delayed. I don't know if I would have done the same thing for them, I'm sure you must have done it for yourself at the same time. Keep up the great work, you are the man.🎶

I *loved* my Rockford T8004 and T20001bD each being 2 foot long x 1 foot high, but I longed for the bigger 3 foot long T15004 and T40001bD. The T2K killed my favorite 'loved like kin' Eclipse sub, it was more than enough power, but I really badly wanted the big 4 channel. But honestly, even though I actually burned myself on those amps kinda badly multiple times coz of the insane heat output, I loved their power an slew rate. I do love technologies progression though, I went from that HUUGE monoblock that cost $1k second hand to an Alpine MRP-M65 that cost me $50 second hand, and sure its 1\3rd of the power (I only run 4 ohm anyway so its not that much less power actually), but its *tiny* and it is efficient as hell, it creates no heat at all, and I abuse my amps like I cant describe, hot days, no ventilation, hours on end at max volume driving around, hence I get burned when I touch the heat sink, but this little Alpine I've had for 5 years now, its been bloody brilliant! No more giving up back seats and boot space, no more rebuilding alternators, no more fire hazards (*Always* carry a CO2 extinguisher guys!!)

Take a look at the outputs with an oscilloscope. the front channels on the TM400X4AD has almost 3 volts of High frequency noise due to a bad circuit board layout. the front channels pick up the switching frequency of the power supply. its enough noise to damage some tweeters!!

Hello Mr Williston- I wonder with this test, since you have to test channels separately, does that skew the amp current readings? It shows a peak at 164 amp draw on subwoofer channel, would that be inclusive of the rest of amp channels? Thanks again & cheers

I have an old power 1000 and I was wanting to run them on my mids and highs but the speakers I have are rated 100-125 rms fosgates but there just 4ohm speakers. My question is can I somehow make them 2 ohm to get the 100 rms out of the amp I’m gonna use cause at 4 ohm the amp is rated at 50x4

Some info on the AD, BD class selling names from RF: Those are modulation techniques (hopefully). Single chip amplifiers would have used a particular technique of operating in class D. For example, Texas Instruments parts like the TPA3116/3130 family can use BD or 1SPW modulation, while parts like TAS5630 and TPA3255 series use AD modulation. AD modulation is the standard classic technique, provides best audio performance but inevitably has lower efficiency and requires good output LC filtering. Not much information on BD modulation, though the TPA3116D2 series datasheet mentions halved voltages and better efficiency (supply voltage vs. full differential voltage swing of AD modulation) and output LC filtering not required (but further improves efficiency). RF uses BD class for subwoofer amps only.

Man, I want this amp, but I need to know one thing if anyone can answer. My head unit has 4 channels, how does the amp see the signal for the sub channel? Is it possible to connect the four channels normally via high level, but for the sub channel to get the signal from either the front or rear channels directly rather than having to create a wire input for the sub channel on the side?
