Rocket: Robot on Wheels is a nostalgic gem | Breaking the Backlog
Ойындар
Today on Breaking the Backlog, I'm taking a look at a nostalgic N64 gem called Rocket: Robot on Wheels. The first game by Sucker Punch Productions, it was yet another 3D platformer released in the late 90s. But thanks to its innovative physics engine and cool aesthetics, it sticks out amongst the crowd. Let's see what makes it unique!

Did you play Rocket: Robot on Wheels as a kid? What are some of your other favorite platforming gems from the fifth generation? Let me know!

I used to play Rocket: Robot on Wheels. I beat Jojo but never completed the game, since there was, like, a single 5 or 10 coin that I could never find. The jazz in that videogame is great.

Jet Force Gemini ❤ one my favorite hidden gems 💎
Loved this game as a kid. Yea, the building a roller coaster in the first world is the most memorable moment of this game for me. But overall, it was a solid platformer. I would say too bad there was no sequel, but I think Sly took inspiration from here and became its own masterpiece.
You can easily warp between the sections in the candy world. You have to go up the straws.

Oh damn, I didn't know about that! Definitely would have made that level more tolerable. Thanks for letting me know!
I'm not exaggerating when I say I actually think this is one of the best 3D platformers on the console. I know Mario and Banjo are always gonna be everybody's go-to, but I absolutely love this game, and I'm really glad to see more people are starting to appreciate it as much as I did when I was a kid.
I remember playing this game. It was SPECIAL to me. There was also something about the atmosphere of the game that made it very very mildly horror like.

Game forever remains in my head bro fr
I am shocked I had never heard of this game until now. Our go-to platformer rental was Chameleon Twist 2. I am definitely going to check it out now. A physics based platformer on the N64 is super impressive. I'll go about getting this... other ways...
]I've been a huge fan of Sucker Punch for ages now. inFamous in particular is one of my favorite games of all time and I love the Sly games. And yet, despite being an owner of an N64 as a kid I'd never heard of this game and had no idea Sucker Punch even made an N64 game. I always assumed the first games they made were Sly Cooper. Looking at this game, I can definitely see how it influenced Sucker Punch's later games.
Absolutely appreciate what this game does well.
Always wanted this game. It's a bit pricey to find!

Especially now! It used to be 10-15 USD years ago. Damn retro game market 😒 But it's worth it if you can find it at a good price!

@@CloudConnection for sure I’ll keep an eye out! Last time I saw it in the wild it was about 90 dollars. I was broke at the time and that was a lot now it’s probably double that 😂
I RAVE ABOUT THIS GAME CONSTANTLY! It's so good! Such a shame it's so expensive now >.< More people need to play this.
I got a tape from Nintendo Power with commercials for Rayman 2, Tonic Trouble and Rocket Robot on wheels. My dad bought me Rayman 2 but on PC and it ran so poorly I didn't even get to play most of the game. I rented Tonic Trouble a lot but never could beat it. I was always interested in Rocket. Also Coffee Talk is a great game that I got to play thanks to Games With Gold on Xbox. Really cute game with a surprise ending that blindsighted me.

I also just saw the sequel is coming out next month
Yo I love this game, I even have some of the OST in my music playlist. Glad to see it's not completely forgotten.
I just found your channel and I think we have very similar tastes and memories regarding games. I jokingly tweet every year that Rocket: Robot on Wheels should win Game of the Year. Still have my copy and whenever I feel stressed I love to play it. Definitely earned yourself a new subscriber! 😊
I never wanted to play this game for the dumbest freaking reason. I was a kid. And I thought that the game mechanic would work like a unicycle and that you'd have to do a lot of back and forth to keep Rocket balanced. And I kept thinking that to move Rocket meant to keep him balanced. Yes. I am an idiot.

I loved this game. I loved the platforming and floaty physics. It was great
Love this game I still have a copy of this
The Nintendo 64 is my favorite console any videos about it or it's games im all in
Rocket: Robot on Wheels is a game I never heard about until this past year or 2. Won't lie, this game has also been on my backlog. The physics are the biggest draw to me, it sounds like this game's biggest strength

As always I definitely recommend you give it a try! And yeah, the physics make this feel like no other platformer from the era
Never heard of this game and wondered why. Well turns out Donkey Kong 64 released within a WEEK of this game coming out, made by Rare with huge amounts of marketing from Nintendo. Good luck competing with the literal kings of the N64 platform genre.
Good
You should do a retrospective on gauntlet dark legacy amazing game it’s a GameCube hidden gem.

@@CloudConnection my family owned a prep owned copy from GameStop, and I’m pretty sure the main save file was already completed, so whenever my siblings and I opened said file there was nothing telling us what to do. We just kept rolling around hopping into random levels and dicking around with no goal. Leading to us spending hours on the rollercoaster creator because we didn’t know what the objective was
What's the first game on the video
Tooie > Rocket > Dk64 > Kazooie > SM64 > Starshot YOLO.
