In his biography he takes a massive shit on every thrash band other than Metallica, presumably sparing them because they always blew so much smoke up his ass. He said Venom were shit (wrong), and had a massive beef with The Darkness, based seemingly on the fact that he just didn't like the singer. As much as I love Motorhead, Lemmy was massively prone to being a judgemental douche. Also, even as a 50 year old metalhead, I can conclusively say the Slipknot are one of the best live bands I've ever seen - he was wrong about them too.

Dave Grohl is on about how they play live but he's just a hypocrite because that hasn't always been the case with everybody in the band. The guy is like a drum machine who's tempo is always rushing, his drums sound like cardboard boxes and he's got no integrity because he will literally play with any one who pays him. I see so many guys from Berklee play in my area who crush that guy but you will never know their name because music is more important to them than playing for just anybody with a record deal. Freese is a proficient drummer but will never measure up to Taylor Hawkins.

The only reason Dave talked shit on Metallica is because he was kicked from the band.

You are right. rock has more talent than pop. Pop music: Simple things for simple minds. The majority of people have no desire for complexity or thought provoking entertainment Rock suits a smaller crowd. Metal is for an even smaller crowd. It is complex music, on par with Classical (Mozart, Beethoven etc) Metal fans tend to be the smartest bunch. Pop fans are basically sheep. Clock punchers with no intellectual pursuits

James came off as some kind of tortured, arrogant soul and spoke much less in between mind-blowing rhythmic rock [I saw Metallica on July 3rd, 1993ish in Tinley Park IL and let's just say: BOOM!!!! 🤯] Both bands excel in every aspect of what a heavy metal band should be. But Megadeth songs are complex and just more intelligent lyrically, and Metallica songs are way more catchy rhythmically.

@@kitcobain444 idk if megadeth songs really come across as intelligent lyrically at least to me (more than the vast majority of artist but im talking moreso in a comparative manner) metallicas lyrical content hits deeper on an emotional level especially songs like dyers eve, unforgiven (especially the 3rd one) sanitarium, and fade to black are master pieces when it comes to emotional depth, megadeth does do that well but it isnt their strongsuit, when i think of a song that perfectly encapsulates them as a whole i go with 5 magics, fantastic riffs, ear melting solos, epic lyrical content. comparing lyrics is like comparing ozzy and dio, dio has epic fantastical stories, while ozzy focuses on a mix of the party rock lifestyle and emotional depth. ive also seen both bands, being 20 years old myself both times were fairly recent so i cant say on either bands prime but at least when i seen them james came across as someone that wanted to make sure everyone there got their monies worth while dave got on stage, kicked ass, got off stage. both are amazing musicians, but to say dave is in a league above james in terms of being a frontman isnt being fair to james, dave might be on another level in terms of guitar playing but in just about every other category, james is just more consistent in terms of quality
