20/20 for me. Always loved this song, loved the message, loved the build, loved everything.

I feel like the solo is underrated in this one, but it's S O G O O D
This is my favorite Metallica song. 20/20 for me, math included.
This solo is somewhere in Kirk's top 10, if not top 5. There is just something toward the end that emotionally hits like a truck.
Technically we have heard piano before this. Those open low E notes in the intro of Welcome Home (Sanitarium) were doubled with a piano.
This song has probably my favourite lyrics in any Metallica song ever. Beautiful poetry about James coming to terms with his own part in all his struggles.
"Forgive me" part is just amazing❤
On "Welcome Home (Sanitarium)", is also a hidden low E coming from the piano (it's hidden underneath the James' guitar, on the intro and the two verses)
My favourite built-up in music is probably from the Wintersun song 'Time'. The last line "...oh please don't leave me now!" before it gets fast for the last time is just so full of emotion.
That piano intro is just exquisite + James' voice is so, so good. The whole song flows so well and the build-up is amazing, however the solo is what brings is down a bit for me. I'll explain better: they build up from nothing and we're expecting them to explode, and they do, but the solo kind of starts in the wrong way and puts me down. Compared to the solo in The Unforgiven this one sounds a bit off. The more it goes on the more it gets better, but it's not the best he could've done, in my opinion. C 3 M 3 ER 4 I 4 L 4 For me it's a 18/20, more than a respectable score. If it weren't for that solo and the fact that there's no real hook to the song it would've been easily a 20. Btw, one of my favourite build ups it's in The Prophet's Song by Queen. It doesn't build like this one, but it's a particular song. I'm not even sure if it counts as a build-up. I highly suggest a listening if you don't know it.
MASTER OF PUPPETS HAS A GREAT BUILT BEFORE THE SOLO. THAT BUILT IS ALSO AMAZING!!! 🤘🏼🎶
Just beautiful 20/20
The most under-rated 'Tallica song!!
I really wish they played the horn intro and went straight to the clean riff (skip the piano) Then the trilogy would've been REALLY complete...you know the whole 'be forgiven, to forgive and forgive yourself'

They didn't need the horn; the trilogy is still complete.
I think that probably James's best vocal moment ever is the "WHY CANT I FORGIVE ME"
I'm here because i've a little musical understanding, i mean i know some scales and modes, but i wanna find what has this solo that makes me be close to cry hahaha, i hope find that with your knowledge.

I hope you find it too! Welcome!
I'm pretty sure the first Metallica piano is in Sanitarium in the intro
I would give it 13/20. Yes it has a good build up and a good solo. But the rest isn't for me.
@9:49 it's a keyboard

Congrats
They shouldn’t have put this track on the album. I recalled Hetfield was the only one adamant about it being on the record while others voted it down. The first two are still head n shoulders above this one

“They shouldn’t have put this track on the album” is a pretty bold statement. It’s okay not to like something, but to claim it shouldn’t exist is a little harsh, don’t you think?

@@MidnightNotion agree with the general sentiment of what u said. But given it bears the name of 2 of their most iconic ballads n the fact they clearly had a disagreement in a mtg during making of (check fly on wall videos on KZread) whether this track was strong enough to make the cut - I still stand by what I said It should exist, just on beyond magnetic

I see why folks like this one, but it just doesn't do it for me. 12/20. Easily the worst of the trilogy in my opinion. Unforgiven II for the win!
