Rocker Reacts: "Slam Dunk (Da Funk)" (Five)

Музыка

When I was a kid, I tried to listen to Five, and did not like them at all. Now that I'm grown, will I have a different opinion of them?

FIVE is the best, unique boy band. All five of them are handsome guys with cool voices, and they have wonderful songs that are unlike the others!🔥🔥🔥🔥❤️❤️❤️❤️

I'm a Backstreet Boys girl but I loved Five! I wish they would have lasted a little longer than they did. I love this song so much it's so catchy makes you want to rock out!

This made me so nostalgic. Omg. Although the ones that always got stuck in my head where Everybody Get Up & Got The Feelin', and probably my fave Keep On Movin'. They were definitely marketed as the bad boys of boybands, sort of picking up from what East 17 started, with the inclusion of the rap verses. Looks like they reformed a few years ago, but now there's only 3 of them (no name change though), and released a new album this year. Of course now you've opened Pandora's box... you have to dive into British & Irish boybands of the 90s & early 00s and we have a fair few lol: Take That (1990), East 17 (1991. later just E17), Boyzone (1993), Let Loose (1993), 911 (1995), Westlife (1998), A1 ( 1998), Point Break (1999), Blue (2000), Busted (2000), McFly (2003). Idk if Busted & McFly qualified as they were actual bands, with instruments (novel concept), and I remember many debates about whether they were boybands because of that. Several of the bands broke up and but later got back together, and some are still going now.

I demand that u do a five deep dive and go through all their hits at least lol. No one ever reacts to them and I think you would love their infusions of funk, rap, and Rock in their songs

Next week I'd love to see you do "Sabotage" by Beastie Boys. An absolute classic and combines genres very well.

Five was featured in the Disney Channel original movie Smart House. Mentioning partly because I think that may be where you heard of them and partly to see if getting Disney Channel Original Movie Smart House mentioned in the comments helps drive you some traffic. :P

Also also, from what I remember of Five, the rest of their stuff is fine, nothing hits near the level of Slam Dunk which is a total jam. Not as consistent as BSB or N'Sync who had a lot of Slam Dunk-level bops. That said I feel similarly about 98 degrees and you seem to like them a lot, so there's a good chance that there'll be something for Five that connects for you but didn't for me.

I don’t remember watching Smart House-I think I missed that one. I remember seeing a live performance similar to NSYNC’s first Disney concert, and that’s what inspired me to buy the record. But at that point, I was already obsessed with BSB, so Five just didn’t hold up for me. Glad to know I’m not alone, but bummed to hear the rest of their catalog probably won’t improve from here. 98 Degrees has the slow R&B jam down, but dancing goes to NSYNC and overall band equity/talent distribution and longevity goes to BSB. I could talk about those 3 for hours and hours and hours. Maybe I should… 🤔 🤣🤣🤣

I like Bsb but also 5ive. My favo Bsb is Nick and from 5ive is Abz. 5ive were very popular here in Europe end of the 90S. Slam dunk da funk is from end of 1997,I was 15. ☺️98degrees I dont know their songs,I dont like them. 😎

I think 98 Degrees is worth trying. Their albums 98 Degrees and Rising and Revelation are both quite good. They don’t have the staying power of BSB, but they do some great harmony work, and several a cappella songs.

Oh man, I definitely appreciate them, but after Metallica, I don’t think I have the energy to do a full discography ever again. Sooooo much work (and no pay). But I’ll add them to the list for when I get back to rock/metal. Got a favorite? I’m partial to War Pigs (because of the drums), but I’d love to hear a deep cut that deserves more attention.
