Rock Hounding Beaches from Alpena, Michigan to Sturgeon Point Lighthouse.

Rock Hounding South of Alpena, Michigan. We explore the possibilities at Thompson Beach, Starlite Beach, Black River at Lake Huron, and Sturgeon Point, Sturgeon Point Lighthouse, finding rocks and minerals and fossils on east Michigan coastlines. Some beaches are sandy, but as we head south, we find plenty of rocky shores. The waves coming together at Sturgeon point is just a crazy cool phenomenon. Old Bailey School is located at the Sturgeon Point lighthouse grounds. See our video on that. We’re finding epidote, feldspar, crinoid fossils, Petoskey Stones, Jasper, quartz, banded chert, granite, diorite, gneiss, brachiopods, pudding stones, colorful slag and more. Where can I find Petoskey stones in Michigan?

You should check out "Michigan Rocks" if you haven't already. He has made numerous trips to Partridge Point and has found lots of rocks there. There must be some other access. You probably wouldn't like it anyway, as it's not very colorful. Lots and lots of fossils, mostly gray. The wind noise was really awful when you were at Sturgeon Point, couldn't hear what you were saying. You should not use that audio. Do a voiceover when you edit instead. I was really excited when I found your channel, as I am a fellow Michigander. I hope you improve with more experience.

The Sturgeon point light is my favorite place in the world. I could sit at the end of the rocks and watch the waves cross each other for hours on end.

Interesting. We did that trip last September in the opposite direction continuing to the straits and all of Superior (that was accessible) to and around Kewenaw and south to Misery Bay. It was a great trip but 7 days was too little time for all the spots to be fully explored. The joy is that we can plan more and or longer trips this year. Gotta love Michigan and it’s rocks.

Sounds like a fun trip, we enjoy going to as many beaches that we can get too. We also enjoy going to the Keweenaw to look for copper and greenstone.

There is a driveway out to Partridge Point that you passed. Just before where you parked. Tons of fossils and other rocks. 😊
