Here is the sixth video in a series of videos on classic rock drumming techniques. In this part 6, I show you how to correctly play and work on your Alternating 16th note Hi hat grooves.
The book I use in this video is Realistic Rock by Carmine Appice and my book Advanced Coordination for Drum Set and Hand Percussion.

Great Rick, cheers. This is one of the things i’m developing, for when you want to make people dance and you only have kick, hat, snare.

Diggin your drumming and gear talk. I remember learning U2’s “Sunday Bloody Sunday” many moons ago; it was an interestingly different 16th pattern to my young ears.

There is a guy out in the Midwest (JP Bouvet) that is basically doing the hard part of your example here but on the toms for soloing ideas without the chuks. its not exactly the same but similar. Basically hands and feet stuff. Reminds me semi of Chaffee stuff too. Either way all this Linear stuff is handy. Thanks!

Love your channel. I’m a neurosurgeon practicing part time in Pennsylvania. Would you be interested in some brief lessons with me?
