We had so many good shows, good black shows back then, yet hardly any now. You'd think that would change with all the "progress" we've made.
I've forgotten how deep some of Roc's episodes were like. This show tackled a lot of issues that were mainly kept behind closed doors. I really enjoyed watching it back in the day.

Loved the episode when he yoked someone up for threatening his family and his father and brother had to pull him off. They don't make shows like this anymore.

I was a little girl when this show was on prime time TV and although I understood the basic concepts and lessons of the episode, I really have a much deeper understanding and appreciation for the topics now as an adult.
We need more shows like these talk about real life issues and showing a man wanting to love and protect his wife. Bring these shows back
My kids don’t appreciate me for keeping them so close to me. One day they’ll understand.

This show was SO ahead of its time.
This is exactly why my two were never babysat by family, neighbors or friends. No thank you! If they couldn't be with me, then we didn't go. And when they wanted to play with friends they all played at our house! My parents and husband used to complain about my decisions, but I never budged, not on this. Time goes by fast! Now they are 20 and 24 and I have no regrets.

Unfortunately too many black families were destroyed after the civil rights movement. I know I’ll get shit for saying this but big daddy government incentivized divorce and single parenting. Black Fathers were taken out of their homes due to that, drugs, and the decadent culture we embraced.
This is why I kept my kids close to me

This scene is powerful. When you share with your partner anything horrible that may have happened to you, you realize how much they truly support you. They take part of that pain & shame from you & voluntarily lighten your burden.

This scene is powerful but on a lighter note, dad in the other room at 0:04 hanging with producers of the show was funny to me. An obvious mistake they left in lol
I've started watching this show again, recently, so I guess that;s why this has shown up. However, man, this is why, in my family, we've stopped calling people "aunts" and "uncles". Too often, it creates this sense of closeness and trust in a child that enables weirdos to take advantage of your kids. And always keep a close eye on your kids, no matter if it's family or close friends... most times it IS someone they know, because it's someone who can get close to your child and time alone with your child without too much suspicion.
I miss this show. 💖💖💖💖
Im only in my early 20s and Roc was my favorite
Roc show was tight
No offense but I hate it when scenes and like this like telling someone that you love and trust makes it okay and everything will be all right. I trust my husband more than anything and I told him after all these years what my mother's husband did to me and is still trying to do and no it doesn't make anything better in so many ways your life will be forever ruined. And your life literally is just a constant drain on yourself because all you're doing is trying to figure out how to live day to day with no justice for what happened to you. I hope that some people find relief but I didn't
