Robots bend, weld and palletize for metal fabricator

Ғылым және технология

Cotterman, a manufacturer of rolling metal ladders, wanted to reduce freight costs by centralizing the manufacturing of ladder parts to one plant. To help, Acieta designed a multi-application robotic system with three FANUC arms that run 24/7, seamlessly making ladder treads from bending to welding to palletizing. As a result, Cotterman has saved on floor space, reduced shipping costs, improved turnaround time and streamlined labor, delivering an excellent ROI for the company. See this innovative robotic system in action.

Probing with the weld wire is pretty clever.

Yes especially how it trims and probes a known datum to account for error in the wire.

Is the back gauge on the press brake needed in this set up, what’s the accuracy of the robot vs the back gauge?

It is needed. The robot is pretty accurate, but you can’t accurately bend a piece of metal that bends and warps. The robot can’t compensate that, so you need back gauges to get rid of the inherit uncertainties of the part. Hope that helps

How did the programmer keep singularity from causing a big issue? I see that forearm whipping around.

It is possible to use joint movements to avoid singularity. I often have to do so to get tooling onto a position I need it to be in.

wtf is that config on bending robot, why second axis is going below like that, could you ceep the same range on third axis throu out whole proces? was there problems on 5th axis if robot would have more common configs?

Arc welding is not in good position. You should be using a positiner while welding.

CJP is CJP no matter what angle your torch is at. Only issue you might have pulling away like that an that angle is shielding gas but if thats all its welding it wont be an issue.
