Robotic Total Knee Replacement After 5 months- listen to a patient describe her experience.

One of Dr. Hurt's post-op patients discusses the problems she had before robotic knee replacement surgery, how surgery and rehab went, and their recovery 5 months later. It's critical to note that every patient's experience WILL BE DIFFERENT and that no result can be guaranteed. That said, there are few better ways to learn than to hear from the patient themselves even if it's only to inform what can be POSSIBLE. Ultimately only your surgeon and you can determine if knee replacement is a good option and even then there are always risks. Hope you find this helpful in your journey. Comments will be held for review out of respect for the patient (i.e. to protect them).

I had both knees replaced robotically, the first in December, 2019 and the second in November, 2021. Old age was slowly devastating both knees, especially my left. I was slowly losing my ability to walk without a cane. Also, I could not stand in one place very long because I became frozen to that spot. I had difficulty restarting my movement from the stand-up position. Following the surgery and a strict adherence to the rules of therapy, I was walking and driving within ten days and was experiencing no pain. Limited stiffness would disappear with exercised motion. The same results applied to my right knee two years later with no pain. It took me longer to recover from that surgery. However, I was walking strongly in about three weeks and driving with a month. I am 84 years old and I can walk like a 20 year old young man. It is the best thing I could have done to make my elderly days worthwhile and satisfactory. Robotic knee replacement is life changing.

3:49, that’s needing a total knee replacement surgery?! Cortisone or gel injections should do the trick! Both of mine are bone on bone in the medial and middle compartments. I’m 54 and had the first one done 4 1/2 weeks ago. I was fine until I was about 50.

How old is this patient? She looks very young for a knee replacement.

Not as young as you think. I’ve had knee pain since I was about 45. By the time I was 50, I couldn’t walk without limping. At 54, I finally got my first one 4 weeks out now. Working a job all day as a chef and skiing in the winter didn’t help, that sped it up.
