How To Clearly Tell Where You Are In The 4 Stages Of Knee Arthritis

The staging system of knee arthritis is commonly used by doctors to help determine how severe your knee osteoarthritis is.
Knowing what stage you are in helps doctors recommend treatments appropriate for your specific situation.
But this system is not complete! It has many assumptions that we believe are false. This means the recommendations from doctors, based on what stage of knee arthritis your in, might NOT be good for you!
There are 2 main flaws with this:
The first is that knee cartilage does not heal and there is only degeneration over time no matter what you do. In other words, you’re doomed if you start having knee arthritis :-(
The second flaw is that you cannot function without some loss of cartilage and that knee replacement surgery is necessary. We know this to be wrong because we’ve helped so many people over the years avoid surgery even though they have “bone-on-bone” knee arthritis.
At the end of this video, Dr. David discusses an alternative system that is more focused on the possibility of healing knee arthritis so that you can get back to being active, healthy, and mobile again.

    I went to the doctor and they spent a total of 3 minutes with me to just tell me that I had a lot (their term) of arthritis and prescribed physical therapy. It also cost me $150 for 3 minutes of their opinion. I learned more from this youtube video and it was free. Thank you!

    That gives us hope! I've just had an arthroscopy with partial meniscectomy and debridement to try and reduce the pain from my arthritis and buy some time before a new knee. I have bone on bone grade 4 arthritis on the medial side, grade 2 on lateral and grade 4 under the patella, the surgeon said it's as bad as it gets, yet I function quite well. It becomes more painful and stiff after a walk but I cyle 2/3 times a wk and swim 3 times a week. I bend my knee to the limit most evenings while sitting down, watch my weight and keep slim (6ft and 70kg) which is important to keep knee pressure down. I'm looking into a gel injection as a future option but apparently that is not so effective for grade 4

    Thats awful, you poor thing. At 24. I'm sorry. There are some natural ways to help with these conditions, so might be worth you looking into those, as well as anything your Dr prescribes. I haven't been able to see my Rheumatologist for a while, so this video has been really informative. I've got Osteoarthritis, Inflammatory arthritis, Rheumatoid arthritis, Fibromyalgia, and a host of other delightful conditions! One of my knees is so bad that it gives way a lot. I'm 44 😢

    I've been told that I need surgery on my left knee as well About 4-5 years ago also. Now both knees hurt so bad . I had surgery in 2012 on my right knee, it hurts as bad as my left knee.

    Good info; I had problems with my right knee; Started with a random occasional pain, then swelling, some stiffness. I started going to a doctor asking for help, every few months. He kept sending me to x-rays and said that there is some arthritis in there. In the end I begged him to send me to mri, and it took a few months for him to agree. This was now the third year, and symptoms and swelling were progressing to worse. It turned out I had a one pound tumor in my inner, right thigh,beside the knee. Had surgery a year and half ago, had it removed and I am hopefully still cancer free. Tough journey, big surgery, long recovery, lost a section of my inner thigh muscle. I have some issues such as stifness, mobility and flexibility limitations, some pain and balance issues, but I'm glad to have had a less agressive type of cancer, and happy to be alive. I just wish that doctor had believed me sooner that there was more than just "some arthritis " in my leg. Maybe it would have been detected earlier, and been smaller in size. But it is what it is, so, Im still grateful to be alive.

    I got to stage 4 at the age of 54 after a very active life, I had 2 x TKRs within 2 years of each other. I was in absolute agony, I struggled to walk the dogs around the block, I had lateral windswept legs due to the worn gap. I was worried sick about the surgery, 6 years post surgery I’m back to near normal, I’m physically active ( no more running) and back to strenuous work as a tree surgeon, it’s like being given a new lease of life.

    How long until recovery from the operation. I am 48 and a big golfer. Have had a dodgy knee for 32 years since I broke it as a kid. It may be time for a TKR. Any info would be good. Thanks

    @@theclagster2 Hi, it took me about 18 months to get to some form of normality, you have the advantage of being relatively young so you should have decent muscle. You must work hard at rehab even if it’s painful. I’m so glad I had mine done at a young age.

    Just 6 days out from my first TKR am 69 and need both done. The surgery went so much better than I anticipated with little pain. The surgeon does only knees and hips and is excellent! The anesthesiologist put 6 knee blocks in during surgery and only one time did I need to take a pain pill. I’m very pleased and I’ll be starting PT in a few days. Then the work will begin.

    I had right TKR 2 years ago, and am 3 weeks out from left TKR. I loved my right knee - no pain - first time in 20 years. I look forward to the mobility of have 2 painfree knees to bop around in. I'm still working full time at 77. Looking to take these a walkin’ into the future. I remove or replace worn out parts of my body. We do it to keep a car running well, why not our bodies?

    Hi doc. Thanks for the information. My last xray said I am on stage 4. My orthopedic surgeon was SHOCKED when he looked at the xray. But I told him it doesn't feel as bad as the report says. The reason I went to see him was because I was having difficulty climbing up stairs and down stairs. And the first thing he said was I should have a knee replacement. But when he did a check on my motion he realized I was right. So I suggested to him that he should do an arthroscopy instead. He did that. Removed some small shattered bones. Removed some fluid and got rid of a bone spur.It's 2 and half months now and I am slowly recovering from that surgery. I am walking ok. Doing most of the exercises that you suggested. There is some swelling on bad days . I definitely not relying on crutches or walkers. Walking fairly well . And know when to stop and relax. You are the ONLY one that knows whether you need a knee replacement. Don't ever do a knee replacement if it is not needed. My friend did knee replacement on both knees. She is not any better than before the operation. So why do something that is not going going to put you in a better position. Thanks Doc for all your dedication in assisting us arthritis sufferers and giving us hope.🤗

    Hi, what is your age? my mother at 53 have been told that she has grade 2-3 almost but she doesnt feel that much. she can walk easily and some days it burns due to inflammation. doctor suggested her to wait till 60. Are injections good ?? since my mother used to do a lot of walking and going around , that, she has stopped because much walking around hurts actually stings. Any suggestions

    Great explanation of the stages. I suddenly found myself in stage 4, having been actively decluttering and moving furniture, almost incapable, collapsed in terrible burning pain, diagnosed in hospital urgent treatment dr, as osteoarthitis flare up, advised to have a knee bandage and take pain killers for a week and if after a week, it doesnt improve to go to gp and ask to be referred to physio. As I could hardly walk, hobbling and dragging my legs upstairs, I had to wait two days of resting before I could go out and buy a bandage and not keen on meds, searched for physio on the internet and found Dr David. One video was about fast pain knee relief for a rare tibial shift which after I spent an afternoon carrying out the suggestions, I went to stage 2 immediately and could walk normally, no swelling, pain free and walked upstairs! I am continuing with his other glute exercises and looking at all his videos now. Cant recommend him strongly enough. Share with your friends. They will thank you! Patti, Broadstairs, Kent UK.

    I'm so glad I found your channel. I used to live in El Paso in the late 70s, now live in the UK. I had a knee injury 18 months ago, but no repercussions (seemingly) till 3 weeks ago when my whole inner knee felt like it was on fire. My physio has said it's a combination of cartilage movement & arthritis. I asked about an x-ray but he said it wouldn't do much good. 'Has given me exercises, but I'm following your recommended exercises instead & feel as though they are helping. I love your approach and feel positive about moving forward with your programmes. Thank you.

    WOW I am so much amazed with this video I just found out two weeks ago I have moderate knee arthritis and I was told it gets worse with age and time I have truly been blessed by not giving in to what I was told you are a true blessing I am so glad that you don’t go with the norm of this and thinking outside the box and doing research WOOHOO I knew that there had to more to getting better and healthier plus I sure don’t want to live this way for the rest of my life God is good Al the time♥️♥️♥️♥️

    Hi and thank you so much for your video! I just saw a surgeon on the 9/12/22 and I would say, I'm stage 4. Woe is me but I don't want this operation. He said I'd have a better quality of life. I'm on a waiting list so could be a 6 to 12 month wait. In the meantime, l am going to lose 10 to 15 kgs and start some exercises. I walk with the sid of a cane at the moment. I am not in a lot of pain at all so I can manage. I am someone who doesn't go along with all I hear from a doctor/surgeon. I do what I feel is right for me!     I’ve just watched your video and I’m so impressed….I ran for 25 years and have taken some bad falls but would love to watch the exercises that you recommend! I have been doing an hour of walking and some progressive resistance exercises that I’ve been doing for years but when I up my yard work in the fall (lots of bending ) and shoveling in the winter, the colder weather seems to make it worse! I use Epsom salt baths and omega 3 and many other supplements so maybe you can point me in the direction of your exercise videos for knee arthritis! Many thanks 🙏

    I am at Stage 3. I am bone on bone. I excersize & have a decent range of motion. My doctor is surprised that I have less arthritis than he thought, no swelling. I get shots which make me more comfortable but I need the surgery. I am extremely fortunate to have a surgeon who has sat & explained everything from start to finish. Having my surgery the end of June. Good communication between your surgeon & you is also key to success. (I also looked up my surgeon's educational & work background - boy I hit the jackpot!)

    I'm 67. Lots of hardcourt sports till age 50. Had to quit for pain in my knees. Saw plenty of Doctors, all say bone-on-bone, need replacement. One said " let pain be your guide when to get replacement, put it off if you can" since I've quit "pounding" my knees in sports I'm totally pain free. I can't explain it but as of now no pain, just some swelling. Haven't seen a doctor in a decade. This man is very knowledgeable and helpful.

    I was diagnosed at stage 3 following surgery. Told i wasn't a candidate for replacement at that time the pain was so intense my consultant agreed to do a partial replacement. 4 weeks on I had the replacement and following surgery he told me it had changed to bone on bone that was within a 4 week period. Im now awaiting results of another MRI for my right knee which has rapidly gone and is actually worse than when i had my left replacement.

    What a mind blowing thoroughly explained video. That information is very good, but at the same time it tells me that not all doctors know enough about these specific problems. Or not all doctors are correct and not all doctors can actually be bothered to give their time to go indepth + work out the 'stage' a patient is actually at. I know that some practices have a budget. But whatever it is,. When you do feel that your not getting the help you need, it certainly doesn't help your own mental coping mechanism to deal with the pain you are in.

    I agree. Have had knee pain since teenage years. I pronate my feet. At age 71, I have arthritis everywhere but have been exercising for years and last 12 yrs doing yoga. Bone on bone in knees with very little pain. This guy is right. Keep exercising.

    Thank you so much or this information. I was diagnosed 28 years ago by an orthopaedic surgeon with severe arthritis in both knees. Told me I would be lucky if I got 10 years without replacement. Physio said keep moving . Use hot’ cold when flaring up. Get good support for flat feet. I side sleep with pillow between my knees and legs. I take a turmeric/ ginger drink every morning. Had to stop hill walking as put too much pressure on the joints. I walk every day weather permitting. Can take stairs . Dance when the music takes me. I keep my knees flexible. I very seldom take anti oain/ inflame tabs , maybe twice a year . I think the turmeric drink I take help with inflammation. My knees are a slight bit puffy but I’m 70 now. Saw a new specialist 7 years ago due to flare up which settled before I actually got to see him. He said I’m certainly not a candidate for surgery and if I get any further attacks there a a number of treatments they can try before surgery would even be considered. . Hopefully things will continue this way

    I was about 45 years old when I had a lot of pain in my knees and my doctor’s said I have arthritis, I lost weight and I had no pain for 24 more years and now al 69 I was doing some exercises and I hurt my left knee, my husband massage my legs and I feel better. I can feel bone to bone and they crack when you put my hand over and moved your leg. I requested for physical therapy and I will start on June 1, I have an appointment with my rheumatology in 3 months. I don’t want another surgery, Im recovering from shoulder surgery😢 I have always taken collagen peptides! I forgot to mentioned I’m doing your suggested exercises and they really help me Thank you very much you are the best!

    Dr. David, I was a healthcare provider for 30 plus years and learning was my passion. I applaud your knowledge level and teaching techniques. your videos are beneficial for both laymen and professionals. i am 69 years old now and have suffered with arthritis of both knees for years now and have had multiple steroid injections with little to no relief, I have been to several orthopods and PTs but your explanations and demonstrations have given me more information than anything else has.     I’ve just been diagnosed with stage 2 in my left knee. The MRI also showed a frayed meniscus and joint effusion . I’ve been in pain and not walking properly since November. 😢

    Dictors in the past have mismanaged my knee issues in one knee, and now it has happened in the other knee, too. I am a very active person and a serious hobbyst dancer. I am finally getting it sorted, but the damage has been done. I can't imagine my life without dancing. Even sleeping is uncomfortable now, and my other knee hurts all the time. I had a fall as well because my knee was so weak. All due to someone's negligence. Medical proffessionals should take these issues seriously. Thank you for your expertise.

    Great video, thanks!! I can tell you for me at stage 3 is the pain!! When it flare up, the pain is unbearable!!! Took me 20 minute to go from the car to my lazyboy chair (life saver!!) Injection does work but only for a while and it is pricy!!! With the specialist, it's very hard as they try so hard not to replace the knee!! I don't think sometime they realize the pain we are in!!!!

    Listening with great interest. Hearing your presentation, I truly understand why physical therapy is a Ph.D program. Very informative. I think my knee stage is somewhere between 2 and three. I was a travel nurse for over ten years (cardiac cath lab; wearing lead for fifteen years). Last year I saw a nurse practitioner who ordered the X-rays (the report for which do not really understand😂). He actually advised me to “avoid knee replacement as long as possible”. I am now retired, and I am seeing a new PCP. Your video has encouraged me to loose the weight (I need to drop about 70 pounds) and keep walking. I am going to follow you so I can pick up some extra exercise advice. Thank you.

    Thanks! I was just dx with stage 2, mild. My ortho gave me pt to learn new exercises to take pressure off my knee. This makes sense, I've had huge back issues 15+ years & learned to adjust.

    Thank you! I'm a stage 4 according to X-rays and doc...but I feel like I'm more of a 3. I'm not overweight at all, stay as active as I can (though I cannot ride my bike anymore, and kneeling can be tough, and I can golf...but I have to take a cart to play nine holes), I feel like I'm starting to move out of 3. I have atrophy in my quads, bone spurs, and sometimes, but rarely the pain can be so bad I have to use crutches for a part of the day to just move. Pain, otherwise, is pretty tolerable most days. I feel like a stage 2-3 on pain most of the time. I will try to watch all your videos for appropriate exercises. I do take reformer table Pilates classes...but its not enough to get as much muscle back that I need. I have had ACL repair in '99...and my leg is bowing outward to this day. Sometimes, I'm a little off balanced, but I have not fallen over. I hope I can find the right exercises!!!! Thank You!!!

    My knees have been in stage 2 for 20 years, but now unfortunately my right knee is in stage 3! It's painful to walk so I stay at home all day and it's sooooo boring! I do tailgates and strenghten my glutes, but I think I'll need a knee replacement. I love to walk and I'll go crazy if I have to stay inside forever to protect my joints and prevent surgery. Love your videos. What you teach makes perfect sense and helps a lot❤️❤️

    Thank you for explaining the staging system and for your advice. I was told I have mild arthritis in my knee and I assumed it would get progressively worse and more painful as time went on. After seeing your video, I am more determined to keep up with the exercises my doctor recommended and hopefully I'll have good function for years to come.

    I have seen surgeon, both knees are bone on bone at medial aspect, left knee worse. But with OA in my right ankle and metatarsals my exercise are limited. Doctor your phases make sense as I stopped working 7 days straight in an ER to 6 days straight my knee is not as uncomfortable.

    I was hit by a car at the age of 12. They told me at that point I was already developing osteoarthritis. Now they say I have it in almost all the joints on the right half of my body due to skipping like a stone across the road for about 50 ft. Thank you for explaining it better than anyone before. As someone with chronic pain for nearly 25 years it’s nice to hear a different perspective.

    Yes! I totally believe the body’s intelligence to heal is much greater than given credit for 👍🏻I am probably in stage 2 right knee and stage 3 left knee. I found out thanks to you that I have flat feet so I’ve begun to help that situation accordingly . As for my knees, I rarely have pain but sill have some selling and a bit of loss of motion in the left one if I’ve been on my feet too long. As I am educating myself, thanks to you, I am aiming at improving my condition by applying all the great exercises you advise in your other knee videos .     I think I'm at stage 3 dealing with knee being swollen all the time, hard to get up and hard to walk at work . Seen a doctor and know it is oesarthritis in the knee. I can still straightening my knee but this video has given me hope. Thank you

    I’ve had non stop knee problems instigated by contact competition sport as a teenager. First meniscal surgery at 18. Now at 57, no ACL in either knee, no cartilages and bone on bone, constant swelling and collapsing, am having bilateral replacement/s.

    This is so true. I went from severe pain, swelling and limited motion to almost 100% free of all that. It took a year and I was treated by a physical therapist at the VA who has the same philosophy as this video so clearly explains. After the first three months of exercises and therapy I was cleared for non-weight bearing exercise on my own and my low impact exercise of choice is indoor rowing. The improvement continued and I lost some weight too. There is hope for those of you in pain. It takes time and commitment to get there but you will.

    I was told I needed a knee replacement after a knee scope 23 years ago. I was only 42 yrs old. I quit running, continued walking and maintain a normal weight. I have some stiffness when I get moving and some mild discomfort going down stairs or downhills. But that’s it. Both my doc and a MRI had mentioned some bone on bone areas in my knee. Yet by making modest changes in my activity level and diet--My diet now is lots of fruits and vegetables, avoid sugar, rare meat--I’ve avoided any further surgery and am mostly pain free.. I think there’s a lot of truth to anti inflammatory diets and modest lifestyle changes.

    I'm not even 40 yet and I am at stage 2 and osteoarthritis in my hip, same side as my knee. Any pressure on my foot causes so much pain to shoot into my hip. Well, the front of my hip/groin area. I've done physical therapy for 3 months, my knee improved along with taping for a patellar tracking disorder. Did an injection in my knee that worked for about a week. But my hip, I have made little progression

    Wow, great explanation of my process. I started with pain, limited range of motion following my pool workouts ( fairly strenuous). In August I believed I had twisted the knee and wS dealing with inflammation, so I pursue physical therapy when the inflammation was less. ROM was still poor and ai was hobbling around! It has been 6 months and still limited, with both sharp and dull pain at times. I refuse to be limited at age 66, newly retired and very active. Seeing my GP next week!

    I have had stage 4 or severe osteoarthritis in my knee for over 20 years, I had osteoarthritis in my knee at the age of 5 I had a problem with dislocation of the knee cap it did a number on it. I can walk without aid the pain is sometimes awful but it gets better. Building muscle in my thighs made a huge difference in the ability to walk.

    Man I totally agree that you can feel better. I'm probably stage 3 or 4, about a year and a half ago I was in so much pain I couldn't even sleep, and nothing over the counter was working. I got one cortisone injection in each knee, and it alleviated the pain enough for me to start exercising again. I'm still in some pain, but I can get out and exercise and sleep with medicine.

    Cortisone will destroy your joints. Look into the gel or hyloronic acid injections you will need 3 or 4 injections 1 week apart then you will feel good for 5 or 6 months. Then you need to do the series again.

    My wife is 66 and she is en stage 4 bone to bone, her Doctor told her that; she needs knees replacement but she can tried physical therapy and some shots. She is thinking to do both knees at the same time, any advice. Did you do both knees replacement at the same time? Thank you

    @@luisleon7364 I'm having my left knee replaced this week, hopefully right one in 6 weeks or so. Most doctors won't do both knees at once, they do the worst one first and then it can support you while the other one gets done. My surgeon said the outcomes for doing both at once aren't good. My mom had hers done 6 weeks apart at age 76 and she did great. Hope this helps.

    Totally accurate! My Doctor recommended knee replacement surgery. I asked about physical therapy, tried it improved and feel greatly improved! I now work out at my gym twice a week at my local gym to maintain my leg strength to stay mobile and active!

    Great video thank you! Im 54 and just seen the knee surgeon last week and he finally gave me the go ahead to get my right knee totally replaced. Im abit apprehensive about getting it done after watching more and more videos and researching the procedure and outcome. Im in stage 3-4 as far as your chart goes, Ive tried everything over the years , braces , injections and physio nothing helped. I take tylenol to take the edge off and helps to sleep. I had both knees scoped out when I was 20 from playing hockey then I raced motocross many years which damaged it more . One huge thing i got from your videos Is the huge imbalance i know I have in my leg muscles. I know my glutes are very small and weak compared to my quads. I may have to try strengthen them along with my hip muscles to see if it will help with the pain before going through with the knee replacement. The phsio i did in the past did not work on my glutes . I still work out 4 times a week without too much trouble. The worst pain for me is walking any long distances , being on my feet for too long especially on concrete . When i work in my shop at home for say 3-4 hours or so I end up limping back to house. I havent had to use a cane or walker yet but i do limp quite abit if on my feet too long. It seizes up fairly quick if sitting too long and takes awhile to get it to move again . Same if sleeping on it the wrong way it totally seizes up and i have to sleep a certain way on one side to have it not seize up . Thx again for the great info !

    Have you done therapy? Check out the GLA:D program. It’s a six week program - I’m on week six now and my pain has gone from a 7/8 to a 2/3 in six weeks. Our local hospital does the program but it’s also available online.

    I have OA and AS. I was diagnosed with it over thirty years ago. After I got done feeling sorry for myself, I decided to do everything I could to stay mobile. I lost over a hundred pounds. I took up body building and fell in love with mountaineering. I was told and accepted the fact that I was going to be in pain for the rest of my life. I eventually had to get my hip replaced, one of my knees replaced, a shoulder replaced and a five level back fusion. These operations happened within a twenty year time frame. I took up rock climbing despite an artificial shoulder. My surgeon cringed at that activity. I hiked and was able to go on a twenty mile backpacking trip on an artificial hip and a fused back. I probably hiked over a thousand miles on that hip. I finally got my knee replaced after I hiked up one of Colorado's fourteeners and I barely got down the mountain. All my joints were stage four when I got them replaced. Thirty years later, I still can hike, but not as fast. I manage a restaurant and I stand about ten hours a day. My disease has progressed, I'm in a lot of pain but I have lived a full life despite it. This might sound bizarre, but if it wasn't for my arthritis, I never would have taken up mountaineering. So in that sense, I am grateful for the disease. I am also so grateful I decided to quit feeling sorry for myself. Staying active is the key. It hurts to stay active, but a sedentary lifestyle makes the pain ten times worse. For myself, the best way I judge whether to replace a joint was how bad it was affecting my lifestyle. I gave a high tolerance to pain and it's always in the back of my mind that if I replace a joint, I knew I would still be in pain. Maybe not from that joint, but from everything else that was affecting me

    @Brian Armstrong being in pain is tough. I was diagnosed with my diseases in my early twenties. Just take it day by day. Eventually your mind will get used to you feeling a certain way. That might sound weird, but it will happen. Sometimes I still go through the I feel sorry for myself but I won't let that attitude fester too long. It's very disruptive and unproductive. Keep strong. It sucks, but stay strong

    Stage 4 for many years but because I was only 33 years old the surgeon wouldn’t do a total replacement because they said I was “too young”. Finally I found a surgeon with more compassion that believed, like I did myself, that quality of life had to be taken into consideration… not just age! I was a single mother with 3 children and they were looking after me instead of me looking after them! I had replacement at age 43 - best day of my life!

    I am 37 and have arthritis in both knees. My left knee also has a "pothole" in the cartilage with no way to fix it long term other than a knee replacement. I have been told that I am not a candidate for a TKR due to my age (too young) and not one for the one they do for younger people due to my weight (most insurances in the USA won't pay for the surgery if your BMI is over 24). So, currently , trying to figure out ways to reduce my pain and increase my mobility. Thank you for your video. This has actually helped me figure out more info than I was ever told by either orthopedic doctor I have seen.

    My BMI went from 39 to 36 and I was approved for TKR by Medicare. I am almost 62, though. They did require me to do PT for 6 weeks.

    Microfracture 23 years ago twice, still no replacement. Thank god my doc got me on orthovisc 20 yrs ago. Weight loss helped a lot recently. Heck im 53 and my knees feel better than ever,i walk and swim.

    Thank you so much for this video. No one has ever explained it like this. Most of the time, the doctors look at me like I'm crazy. I have many sports injuries from high school, and arthritis runs in my family (bad arthritis, too). When I was in my late 30s, I kept telling my doctor my knees were stiff and sore. She would only tell me to exercise more. I was like if I do that, I can barely walk for days. She basically blew me off. If I gardened, I couldn't close my hands for days or hold a pencil. After several years of this, I finally refused to leave the doctor's office until she gave me something. I told her I couldn't live like this anymore. I was to the point I couldn't really walk up and down stairs. She finally listened to me and gave me an anti-inflammatory medication. It changed my life. I could finally walk and garden again without hurting for days. I've been on that medication for over 10 years and refuse to give it up. Now, my problem is when I mention anything about it to other doctors (hurt my ankle and had to go to the ortho), they are like are you sure you really have arthritis? They won't take my general doctor's word or her prescription for it as truth. They said I need to go to an arthritis specialist now to confirm it. Nope. Not going. The funny part is the x-ray of my ankle came back with arthritis in the foot by the radiologist, but I guess that wasn't good enough either. If I wasn't on my meds, I wouldn't be able to bend my fingers or knees. I have several family members where their fingers curled over on themselves along with their toes and couldn't hardly walk. I'm hoping the meds will hold that outcome off for a long time. If I wasn't on the meds, I think I would have probably been partially there.

    I'm in my late 60's back in my mid 40's I had debilitating knee pain to the point I could not walk, took 100% MSM (Methylsulfonylmethane) 1/2 teaspoon a day for 5 days after the 3rd day pain was gone. I also have a back injury it helps with it also take the the same dose once a month to be pain free works for all joint pain. Also good for Gout pain. Try it you have nothing to lose but pain itself.

    Thanks. You helped me know for sure that arthritis is not the cause of my knee pain. In the country where I live, they’d probably tell me it’s that by default . Doctors don’t listen, won’t send you to a specialist and you’re left to suffer. Probably not hard to guess where.

    I am 95 and had a left knee replacement in 2007 the surgeon said my right knee was close to needing the same. I didn’t listen and left it, it wasn’t a problem for a long time but for the last 7 years it’s got worse and really painful. I walk with w walker now to take the pressure off the knee but it’s really painful. My knee bends easily without pain but suddenly it’s sore while sitting not bad but I feel it. At my age I don’t think surgery is possible..

    I’m so glad I found your video by chance. I broke both legs and had bilateral injury to my tibias 4 years ago due to a fall at 56 years old. I have metal plates and screws on both legs. After walking and being on my feet during the day, my knees have pain and become swollen in the evening that I need to ice and rub a magnesium and lavender ointment. I also had a fusion on my low back a few years ago at 40 years old. I now walk with a walker due to the severity of my injury and low back pain. I have suffered with chronic pain for a few years. . . thank you for the great information.
