This was beyond epic watching it as a kid. Now in middle age I chuckle at the absurdity of it, but also notice how this "silly cartoon", as my parents put it, managed to convey so much emotion. Gloval puts his hat on and everyone snaps to it, realizing celebration is out of line when they probably just killed a whole bunch of civilians to save the day.

I wouldn't mind seeing them redo this one, but really flesh out the story. I read a novelized version a couple of decades ago and it would be interesting to see the cartoon really show the SDF-1, or Zor's ship, and really get into protoculture, going from the ship escaping the Zentradi and the Robotech Masters to the ascension of the Invid queen.. While keeping the characters of the original and not changing them. Looking back you really see how they were limited by the existing amines they used.

Basically once Captain Gloval got his has hat knocked off he said "fuck it...they're gettin the Big Guns now!!!"

I swear to god Gloval was the perfect example of a flawed but great leader who had to deal with some serious bullshit situations yes he made mistakes but he did what needed to b done with what he had to work with, he had to make hard choices 4 the greater good n he never ignored the consequences of his actions n he always thought about the wellbeing of others

God I remember watching this a long time ago the original sound effects were so much better

I think that's the point, it distracts you and makes you focus on the big battle ending blast until the end, mirroring the way the bridge crew is cheering until the captain somberly picks his hat back up and asks for the damage report.
