Roborock S4 vs Roborock S5 - Whole Home Cleaning Test

The new Roborock S4 is an affordable premium-grade robot vacuum that's $100 less than other Roborock vacuums. Last year's Roborock S5 still retails for $100 more than the S4, but is it a superior vacuum?
Many comparisons can be drawn from lab tests or feature comparisons between robot vacuums, but how about a robot vacuum's ability to clean the entire house? Our latest real-world test involves most rooms of the house, including a comparison of how long it took to clean the entire house, as well as the results of the pick-up from both vacuums.

When I was watching this I couldn't believe what I was watching, I have the S5 and also the 1st generation of xiaomi vacuum, and they always pick up all the hairs and everthing. Sometimes yes, they throw something around with their sidebrush to a place it already passed and then it wont pick it up, but that is easly fixed if u set it to clean your house twice. Anyways, when I got to the end of your video and I saw the dust bins, they were completely full. I finally understood why they didnt pick up any more hairs etc, simply cuz u sprayed around too much stuff for them to pick up. And the S4 only ended up scoring a bit better because of the bigger size dust bin. The only real difference between these two robots is that the s4 comes with a new side brush and a new main brush(which can also be installed on the s5)a bigger dust bin, newer chip for more efficent navigation and that it doesn't have the mopping feature. Thats it.

Just ordered the S5 on Black Friday for 349.99. With it being cheaper by $50 than the S4 and has the mop function I'm happy with my purchase. I might get that new brush tho. Thanks for letting me know it fits on the S5.

Thanks for this comment. I thought it odd as I've watched 7 or 8 videos on the S4 and S5 trying to decide which to get. Every other video pointed out the superior hair removal that roborock vacuums have. It makes sense that if the waste bin is full it's not going to pick debris up properly. So it seems there is no waste bin full alert? From what I understand with robovacs in general is you'll fill the waste bin a few times a run the first couple weeks. The more you run the vacuum and the cleaner your house gets the less the waste bin fills up. Is that what you've found as well. Cheers

Both of these vacuums would work better if the dust bins weren’t overflowing. The s4 has a noticeably larger bin than the S5 and that’s why it appeared to have better pickup power towards the end.

I recently returned the S4 because it kept throwing errors that the brush was blocked while vacuuming on carpet. Did you have this issue? Mine would throw that error almost every 5 minutes when on carpet.

Maybe because you have thick carpets. The S4 is not designed for carpets, my robot does well on carpets in the living room but can't go around on shaggy one I have for tests. Its brush does not spin and the robot having hard times to vacuum that one. Try to go with the S5 or S6, they have a better climbing ability.

From researching the S4, S5, and S6 the issue is partially with the sensor that detects an edge like stairs for example. The vacuum thinks it reached something it could fall into so it stops. That's why you can just tell it to continue vacuuming. The 2nd thing is to check the app for "carpet mode" the S4 and S5 use different apps. 1 app has carpet mode and 1 doesn't. I think the S5 app (mihome or something like that iirc) is the one with carpet mode. I think you may be able to load up the S4 in that app so you can use carpet mode. Cheers

Why did you choose to compare the older s5 to the s4 instead of the newer S6? The comment about the S4 being faster would have more value when compared with the S6 which has the better processor.

Why would we want to spend 500$ + on a vacuum that dosent vacuum all the mess? That's the whole point right? The robot spends two to four hours vacuuming your whole house everyday but doesn't get everything? I don't understand that.

The S4 should only be around 300, and these are not real world tests. Who throws coffee beans, coffee grounds and a bunch of hair all over their floors? These robots are meant to run by themselves every few days and maintain a constant level of clean in your house. With a real vacuum and mop can you do a better job? Sure. But if you're a lazy person who absolutely hates cleaning, who very seldom cleans, these will at least save you that headache.

*I run the m6 daily, and my floors look awesome🌼 **allabout.wiki/Roborock-S4** I wet mop 2 days and dry sweep the rest of the days. When I first got it, I used the included disposable pads. I didn't like them--the dry pad has no depth so if it picks up a chunk of something, like dry cat food, then it pushes it around or drags it around the floor. The wet pad wasn't very absorbent so left streaks and wheel marks.*
