The Roborock Q8 Max+ is the latest update to the Q8 Max series. It features a higher powered suction mode that improves an already exceptional cleaning performance. In addition, its dual roller brush helps collect debris of all types and had excellent results on our hair tests. Finally, the large debris collection bag on the self-emptying docking station gives the Q8 Max+ tremendous autonomy.
However, the Q8 Max+ does fall short in docking station functionality, edge cleaning, and obstacle avoidance. With the docking station only emptying the vacuum debris collection, the clean and dirty mop water will still need to be serviced. Then we get to the edge cleaning and obstacle avoidance. We believe these two issues are connected with the obstacle detection preventing the robot from getting close to the walls to clean. The sensors are also somewhat unreliable, with object detection being hit or miss during its cleaning cycle.

The debris test might give inaccurate results in a four walled simulation as shown in the video. I'm a Q8 Max+ owner and my robovac throws particles in other directions on hard floor (non rug), sometimes under the couch and other places that it might have already cleaned. In such cases, I usually have it on the 2X cleaning mode to ensure dual passes.
the edge cleaning test in the summary is wrong fyi.
Hi! Love your reviews :) Are you sure the edge cleaning test was properly done? Could it be a faulty unit? I ask since i have not seen any other reviewer mention this as an issue. 43% or what it was in your review is super bad and think that more would have mentioned it if it was an issue. Keep up the good work!

It's possible we just got a faulty unit. Also possible there was an error in our testing. I'll double check with my testers. That said, our edge test is a pretty straight forward test, there's not much room for human error.

@@ModernCastle Thanks, you are very professional in your testing so thats probably not done wrong. But the edge cleaning in your review was really bad in comparison to other robot vacuums and when reading and watching other reviews of the Q8 this is not even mentioned. Thats why i reacted :) I ordered this vacuum the other day but almost canceled the order when I saw your review and the edge cleaning test. But after reading other reviews aswell I will test it myself and see.

@@jaxioneful My pleasure. And thanks for the clarification. Based on our testing, it seemed that the Q8 Max+ just didn't want to hug tight enough to the wall to remove all of the debris (possible due to the obstacle avoidance feature).
If I have a pet and there arent much low objects on the ground should I take the Q5 max over Q8 max? the cat hair usually gets stuck on all the corners and next to the wall and I don't know if the Q8 max would be good based on the edge cleaning test.

Q5 Max and Q8 Max are about the same with respect to pet hair cleaning tests.

I am lost in a sea of Robot Vacuum and Mop reviews, please can you offer a suggestion for a good one around £400/$500 (im in the uk). My wife wants a good vacuum and I think we need a good mop too - so I'd like one, preferably that can scrub. Don't care about volume as we aren't home during the day. I've also got kids so object avoidance would be great too! I've watched a tonne of your reviews but Im undecided. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks

bro ., please give me some advice buy q8 max or add more 100$ to s8 basic? orrr save 100$ less for s7? which one is the best choice for this case? for my first robot (moping and vacuum)

I'd go with S8 I like the Q series, but it doesn't beat the S8. For $100 extra it feels like a no brainer to me.

I am a bit stuck between q5 pro+ and q8 Max+ would you say this q8 Max is worth the 20-30% higher price? And if yes why? Looking for my first robot vacuum

Is it better? Absolutely. Is it worth 30% more money? Probably not. If you have the cash to spare then absolutely, get the upgrade. But if you need to save some cash the Q5 Pro+ gets you most of the way there.

Most any high end robot over $1000 with LIDAR is going to be about the same level. We haven't tested any that have been so incredibly that I would say they were the absolute best. I would say all of the following are around the same level. Roborock's S7, S8 Ecovacs X1, X2, T30 Dream X40
For $499 it's the best option around...
Not sure about that noise accompanying the graphics.
