What also got me was how fair the old man was in the first film. With giving Bob Morton the chance to create Robocop, due to the disastrous demonstration with Ed209. Also at the end when he asked Robocop for evidence against Dick Jones of Bob Mortons murder. In Robocop 2 he is ruthless, and just cares about saving his own skin at that of the company. Yes, the characters are very inconsistent between the two movies. It gets even worse in number three! And yes, I will keep up with reviews once I get more time (school is taking up most of my life right now).

@@TooBadAboutKenny Very true about number 3 my friend. Can't remember the last time I watched it. Back when released on DVD I think. I'm the same with my reviews. Prioritizing my very small channel around the more important things. My last review was published back in November. For me it's just a hobby and do videos when i can or have a passion for one when it arises.😉

Loved the review, thought you were really fair to it. I think the reason Dr. Faxx messes with Robocop when she puts him back together is to undermine the original Robocop program/Johnson. This is her way of punching Johnson in the face metaphorically, to make her Robocop 2 seem more desirable. That's my interpretation anyway.

As a kid, I always assumed there was a connection between Faxx and Cain… I guess my adult brain was still trying to connect the dots to something that was never there 😂

There was some scenes between Faxx and Kane that were deleted. I think also that maybe Faxx and Kane had planned to use Duffy as the new Robocop, maybe the plan was just to remove Duffy's non-vital organs during the surgery/torture scene and keep his brain alive but maybe the surgeon guy messed up. He would have been easy to control due to his addictions and they could probably have programmed him to blame Robocop for having him opened up. When the Duffy option would have failed Faxx probably felt she had no other choice then other than to use Cain as the new Robocop. Just my theory!!

@@chrislambert2310 Cain wanted Duffy dead after he betrayed him. But you're correct, Cain did meet with Faxx in an uncut scene to discuss a personal Robocop as a guard for his nuke manufacturing and hideout security.

Oh .....I didn't know that, you know a lot about Robocop 2! I also thought that maybe because Faxx was looking at other candidates after the Duffy scene maybe Cain had told her they weren't able to keep Duffy's brain functioning or something. Thought that maybe she organised the surgeon and the abandoned hospital and maybe also had the power to get Duffy released from the prison. They might have though that they could make an example of Duffy in front of Angie and the gang while also getting their new Robocop candidate. Anyway Cain definetly got his revenge and it would probably be a bit optimistic to think Duffy would survive having his belly gutted! So my theory is probably incorrect!

This is a great theory, Chris!! It makes a lot of sense that OCP would want to continue using cops (seeing how they would be making another Robocop), and using a dirty cop would be in their best interest because of the drug addiction aspect. This makes Faxx even that much more villainous - working with Cain only to double crossing him!

It is. The 2nd one is amazing, my fav part as a kid was when he got out of the burned car and started his investigation on the nuke drug❤❤

Robocop 2 is a fun movie that retains some of the charm of the original, such as some of the violence and satire of the original. Unfortunately, it does feel like they were going through the motions with one, reverting several things that I didn't think was natural. I do agree that a main issue is how they reverted Murphy's humanity at the end of the first in the first part of the movie, regressing him back to a robot then scrap that idea of family for the rest of the movie, not knowing what to do with it. I do wish to have seen more of his "human" side in the movie, and perhaps a sense of morality between the man and machine, perhaps even reuniting with his family. Cain isn't a bad villain, but he lacks the charisma and energy of Clarence and his gang. I think it would have been cool if they framed Juliette Faxx as the villain in the movie, but somehow, Johnson got the upper hand, disposed of the Old Man (sort of like how Clarence disposed Bob Morton) and became the CEO (Foreshadowed by his eagerness of Dick Jones going out of the window). I sort of wished that Anne had more of a role in the movie, too.

I definitely see what you mean when you say “going through the motions.” This movie seems like it does that a little too often - still, altogether a good movie!

RoboCop being dismantled my kang’s gang is my favorite scene. But I wish they would have explained the scene between Alex and his wife more. As hard as I try I can’t find any director commentary on it.

This movie could use a good extended cut and commentary! Lots of lost plot lines due to changes in the script and random trivia that could be addressed.

Good episode. I think the subplot (written by Frank Miller, who did the original Dark Knight Returns in 1986) was going for elements that seemed cold, such as Murphy accepting OCP’s new protocol on his system (thereby rejecting his wife), and Cain being used as RoboCop 2 to further elevate the doctor’s thirst for greed and power in the company. Yes - it comes off as cold, but if you use TDRK as a reference to the writer, you can see a vocal disdain for corporations as a theme in both stories. RoboCop 2 IMO was nothing like the first one, but if you take it as a standalone film of old model vs new model and their traits, you can appreciate the great moments in this film. Great review. Yes, I know Frank Miller was involved with Robo 2, but a lot of what he contributed ended up not being used (too bad). I think this movie would benefit from a re-release that includes lengthy special features and commentaries!

Your opening was my favorite part of this movie. Still hilarious. Robocop 2 just did not work for me unfortunately....there's definitely some fun stuff and cool set pieces but it just never came together for me. Excellent review man.

Sometimes a movie can disappoint if the expectations are too high… I think this might be the case because Robo 1 was such a great movie! I say go back and give this another watch! I think you’ll warm up to it!! You’ll have to let me know your thoughts after your second go through!

Mechanized Kane gave me legit nightmares. But I was 11 I suppose.

I disagree the scene with Alex's wife was pretty powerful as you can see in her face she is heart broke when he told her to leave. She was hoping to rekindle her relationship with Alex Murphy just to come across a cold heart machine.

It's a classic I saw at rhe movie theater back in 1990. Love robocop 2 is it better then the first of course not but it's not supposed to be it's a sequel 😉

Watched it last night. A bit messy , but its decent. I like the blue suit. The score is ok but i missed the original score. The film felt about 20mins too long. I forgot how funny it was in places too😊

“Messy” … I like that description! The movie is doing too much. It has a weird love story between Cain and that other girl. It’s got the kid who is second in command. There’s that corrupt cop, and that OCP woman with an ambiguous hidden agenda… and nothing really sticks the landing.

Yes, sir! The first kill from one of my favorite movies!

I noticed this movie has a huge hatred of kids because all kids are shown as unlikable characters which is highly unbelievable. The only scenes where a kid can be called likable is Hob not wanting to watch Duffy get opened because it’s very disturbing and dreadful, also him not wanting Robocop to leave after seeing he didn’t have an intention to harm him.

That's interesting, I never picked up on that... I always thought Hob was the one of the only villains they bothered to humanize - especially considering the two scenes you brought up. The other villain I thought they did a good job with was Angie, she was the only one who wanted to go back for Cain after OCP's raid. Nevertheless... we'll never get another movie with a badass gun-wielding profanity-using kid as a villain!

You got to be careful with part 3! Think of it as a made-for-tv movie on the sci-fi channel... it's "okay," but nothing like its predecessors.

Agree… good, not great. Part one was a masterpiece, and one of my favorite movies. I’ve probably seen it 1000 times. The rest of the series, the cartoon, the TV show, and the remake, missed the mark by a mile.

If you’re watching part one and two back-to-back, it can be a bit jarring because it definitely is different… but like you said, it grows on you

It completely lost the feel of the original. It became disjointed and silly. As the head said to Dick Jones "I'm very disappointed!"

No. Only good scene was between the mayor and old man on OCP seizing all city assets.

It takes a big dump on the original and actually makes Robocop dislikeable. Too many silly and tasteless scenes. Production quality seems to have taken a nosedive and it looks dated, while the first still feels fresh.

Always found this movie to be incredibly mean spirited. It lacked the tongue in cheek of the first movie. It’s not an enjoyable viewing.

That's the whole point,nobody is going to be kindly spirited in that kind of dystopian future!

5:30 - Why does she do this?? It was to humiliate Robocop and downgrade the public's respect for him so later her new Robocop can and will get better attention - this was seen in that meeting she had earlier with all those people. U can easily fill in the blanks dude. I noticed nowadays that LOTS OF YT REVIEWERS, if they can't figure something out, they never actually think and just instantly/ quickly assume that it's the fault of the movie. Some actually just quickly assume it must be 'bad writing'. Luckily you're not like them, I'll say.
