Everything Wrong With Robocop In 7 Minutes Or Less

Фильм және анимация

Well either we've heard your cries for the past three weeks, or else we looked at the Hollywood schedule and saw a Robocop remake coming up soon... but either way, we kind of had a blast looking for all the sins we could find in the original Robocop. There are more than you probably remember there being, at least if you grew up loving this movie.
Tomorrow: A Conversation With Myself. (Yes, we heard those cries too, though we don't know what you're smoking).
Also This Week: Another sins video of another beloved robotic character.
Remember, no movie is without sin. Which movie's sins should we recount next? Merch: teespring.com/stores/cinemasi...

6:55 when they are testing Robocop's ability to differentiate voices, you can see that he can show each voice in a separate visualizer, therefore he must be able to completely isolate the voices. He isolated Dick's voice in the version he showed them.

Paint out Miller in the news footage after he gets thrown out the window. In the original he's clearly on the 2nd floor, in the footage you can see his stunt double landing 2 feet below the window. 2. Fix Jones at the end with the rubber arms 3. add in the windshield bullet holes in that one scene chasing the van for continuity. Those would be fairly easy to fix in post and would fix the very few mistakes with this movie.

This movie is from the mid-eighties. The USB-concept was still on the drawing boards then. The only really stupid twist is ... the twist that he makes after having inserted his interface device, as if he was locking a water-hose. Twisting a round-symmetrical device is not going to do much. I remember watching this scene in the late eighties, wondering why the script-writers had to allow for this unnecessary story weakness. It's the problem that any scifi-movie has to endure: how do you portray the future from the present, if we do not know the future developments? The movie lacks portraying the internet and mobile phones, as those concepts where still in their infancy in the eighties. "Starship Troopers" suffers from the same problem: it's supposed to be the future, but you immediately detect the mid-nineties in almost everything. I watched "Aliens" yesterday (partly) after a long time again. How was it ever possible that I watched this movie in the eighties and thought it to be cool? The special effects are so ... eighties!

  • @Guido_XL

    @Guido_XL

    4 жыл бұрын

@@bwc1976 Yes, but the point is that the story-writers in the mid-eighties could not predict that such a device would actually be more versatile than just a dedicated tracking device with only one purpose. That implies that people would have had a special device for any specific purpose. PCs were already existent then. Mobile phones were also in use, albeit not as practical and ubiquitous yet as nowadays. Why could the story-writers not think of the concept of a mobile PC that could do a lot more than be a tracking device? If I would have had the task in the eighties to imagine how the present technology might evolve in the next decades, I would have considered the PC-technology of the Apple Macintosh, IBM PCs and Silicon Graphics and combined that concept with the tedious technology of (yet analog) mobile phones. How would those parts of general technology be able to evolve? You have PC-tech and you have mobile phone tech, both starting to become ubiquitous in the eighties. No one could have missed that then. All it took was to be imaginative and ponder on it for a while.

***** Doesn't matter; Big corporations have extensive bureaucratic guidelines for how to fire someone and are so paranoid about building a paper trail of documentation that the process of firing someone usually takes weeks. They're justified in their paranoia, since there are a number of laws that allow at-will employees to fight wrongful termination for various reasons. Most employees, especially ones at the top, actually have detailed contracts to protect themselves in case of a firing.

Also, wouldn't Dick's P45 have to go through HR and then through some complicated OCP-Detroit Police computerised procedure before directive 4 became inapplicable and Robo was notified of this change?

2wingo Not really a sin considering the film's logic is that everyone in business is expendable, they already had a giant doid just gun own a member of the board earlier in the movie If anything this film shows a society where guidelines and rights are dammed. Of course saying 'your fired' can be seen as suspending the guy in process which is all Robocop needs to overrule directive 4.

In store robocop bends barrel of a gun while robber is holding it. I buy that robocop have enough strength to bend barrel of a gun, but I do not buy that the robber has enough strength to hold that gun in place while robocop bends the barrel. Robocop would just pry that gun off from the robber.

depenthene This actually isn't true. If Robocop used his palm as an axis then technically that would take 90% of the force.

  • @depenthene

RemusWolves He would have specially build hand so that it would support barrel while bending barrel with different part of his hand. Robocop has pretty standard human hand analogue. Bending point for barrel will be on top of his index finger.

+RemusWolves Umm No. To bend the barrel using the center of his hand as an axis of rotation he exerts equal and opposite forces (up with his thumb, down with his pinky) at the end of the barrel. The force that is exerted at the end of the barrel creates a larger moment (as a force it is equal to the other force, but because it is further from the axis of rotation its tendency to rotate the gun is larger) the gun is not in equilibrium unless the robber generates a opposite moment, which he has neither the leverage nor the strength to do. If you're saying moments are equal because the force which is closer to the axis of rotation is greater, this would create a shear force at the robber's end of the barrel and would also pry the gun from his hands.

This is one of the first movies I ever saw. I was like OOOHHHH, thats why movies are different than TV!! I thought all movies would be rated R and extremely violent. Sadly they weren't. Robocop is still a classic/Masterpeice. Watching this complaints video just made me want to go watch it again. Movies like this and the first Infinity Wars makes me wish I could erase my own memory so I could experience them for the first time again.
