Still missing Robin very much. I don't think he ever did a performa:nce that I didn't love. He was a great talent and we were very lucky to have witnessed his all different characters over the years. A true gem! ❤️

Is it just me or was Billy making the kind of face that we only make when we're fighting the urge to cry.

Robin was not just a zany guy. He was erudite, cosmopolitan, and philosophical. A true mensch. He was truly humble and full of gratitude. His embrace of Billy Crystal was a joyous recognition of brotherhood. Well deserved.

How proud was Billy Crystal when Robin won? That was truly a friend's embrace at the end.

So glad Billy Crystal was on stage to hold Robin afterward. Hugs are nice but being held by one who is truly unselfishly happy for you is a sense for the soul to rejoice in. Robin deserved such joy.

Well said and to put it another way a lot of times you see the phony smiles and hugs on these award shows but to see the glowing pride from bill crystal and his beaming smile over his best friend winning the Oscar was just so genuine that you have to be made of stone not to feel so joyous for both men

So beautifully put! I also loved how he held his hand to his heart when people cheered, and belted out that high-pitched belly laugh of his when he was truly tickled by someone or something.

The next day, when Robin showed up on the set of Patch Adams, there was a surprise performance by the Glide Memorial choir. It was amazing. Robin so much deserved the highest honor of his profession, and I'll tell you how much he appreciated everyone who worked on his films. He wasnt like other actors in the biz, stand-offish or self-affected, he'd come up to a grip or a security guard, and ask, "How's it going Bob?" and know everyone by name and he made working on his films such an enjoyable and unforgettable experience. In fact, that day he showed up a little late after coming home to the bay area from the Oscars back to the set on the university of Cal-Berkeley, and at lunch he set his Oscar down in front of him. We were all overjoyed for him. I congratulated him and looked at the statue and said, "Can I hold it?" This was the fourth Robin Williams' film I had the pleasure of working on, so he just smiled and handed it to me. Wow! Talk about heavy. That thing weighed like 25 pounds. I handed it back to him and said, "Thanks Robin. Its about time they gave you one of these." He was on cloud nine that day. I think of him often and send Love to his amazing Soul. He was sui generis - absolutely one of a kind. The world needs more of his sense of humor and generosity (he was involved in numerous charities) and I hope he is at peace on the other side, because I know from conversations he certainly was bothered by the conditions and circumstances of the larger world around us. He gave his heart and soul to this world, and by the amount of appreciation his fans still give him, it was because he WASN'T 'acting' he truly enjoyed making people laugh. He was a magnificent example of charity and caring. I miss him.

I cried also when he passed and I didn’t even know the guy. You can see the way he laughed about other peoples jokes, that he was suffering from depression. When he laughed it was a explosion of emotion. I always knew he was special. Thank you for this comment. This was very insightful. Robin is still my favorite comedian. ❤️

A true friend is happy and celebrates with you when you win the greatest award. Bravo Billy Crystal, Robins real true friend.

No words can describe him. He was beyond talented. I actually cried when he passed. It was liked loosing a friend. The world is less bright without this shining star. R.I.P. Robin and thank you for sharing yourself with us.

@@wickedwonka9155 I am so sorry. I have a nephew who has struggled daily since he was 17. He's now 45. His younger brother took his own life. My sister says it's a gene that causes the suicidal tendency. Both parents have to pass it down. I have a great nephew from my brothers daughter who has Alpha 1. Again, both parents have to pass it down. It's sad what we can give our children. I hope you are getting the help you need and I really am sorry you struggle.

it was a very very sad and tragic day. it was the disease that killed him. that and the despair that plagued him off and on for many years.

A cracking bloke, loved his stand up comedy loved his films, the first time I watched Good Morning Vietnam my ribs hurt, a sadly missed genius and a good bloke. The world is a sadder place without him 😔

I never realized how brilliant robin actually was until I re watched Mrs doubtfire. He was so good in that film, among others, that when you see him in the court room at the end , you know the comedy ends and the drama begins. You see him in a whole different light. Such an amazing actor.

Rich, I read an article somewhere that said that with all the ad-libbing he did on set for Mrs. Doubtfire, the studio could have released a PG-13, an NC-17, and a rated R version separately if they had wanted to. I'd pay to see the R one.

The way he reacted, so full of real emotion, and the hug with Billy, so sincere and beautiful. God Bless You Robin !!!

His performance in Good Willl Hunting was probably the one of the best acting performances I've ever seen.

I just happened to stumble on this one. I have tears in my eyes. I grew on Robin Williams and he made me laugh every time. Miss you Mr Robin Williams - your work is done here.

I am so, so glad they got Billy Crystal's reaction on camera. This award was overdue, but it wasn't a consolation prize either - that was definitely one of his best performances.

Still hard to believe that it has been, just over 5 years has passed . I have watched every movie Robin was in countless times. We all have our own favorite movie. Robin Williams is , was and always will be the greatest gift that graced this Earth. I never had the opportunity to meet Robin,but I think we all new him. From his first roll till his last, Robin had us all laughing with tears rolling down our cheeks. I personally think they should make an award in his honor. The Robin Williams comedy award or something along those lines. It saddens me to think that the next generation will never get to see his brilliance,as we did. Thank you Robin, Thank you.

If anyone ever deserved an oscar this is the man. The most brilliant, naturally talented person ever. Once in a lifetime.

Yes. I cried too. Robin was a genius. There were several roles for which he should have won an Oscar. He was extraordinary. Even though he had private struggles, he shone a light to the world with warmth, compassion, and best of all......laughter. He gave us all laughter, and so much joy. Even now we smile when we think of Robin. We loved him, and will do so always. Do you think, at the end, he knew that?

Didn't see Garp? Comedy and drama combined. He was great in that. As were Close, Lithgow, and the rest.

That just left tears in my eyes. Robins emotion was so real but the loveliest moment was seeing billy crystal hug his old friend at the end. Thank u robin do so many wonderful memories

Never seen this. So glad he won even years later. What a great guy.

In the years since, he said it was an interesting experience. He said roughly three months later, folks were coming up to him, “Mork!”

*This is a man who will ALWAYS be missed by those who loved and appreciated his amazing life and talents.*

R.I.P. Robin Williams is a true comedic legend! I felt like a huge piece of me was taken away when he died. His movies and talent were inspiring. He will be missed for many years and years to come. Thanks for the memories!

I'd like to remember Robin Williams like this,, seemingly truly happy from the expression during his speech. The world is less bright without him.

I had a personal interaction with him many, many years ago and he was genuine and just had a light to his eyes that made the room brighter. R.I.P, Robin.

Of course he was celeb and I’m just a normal every day guy and never got to meet him but I grew up on him and his death still hits me hard to this day.

You could see and feel the genuine, heartfelt, gratitude from Robin.

Robin was so good in this role. The Fisher King. Good.Morning Vietnam. Etc. He was also the funniest man I've ever seen. It's still hard to believe he is dead. ..Thanks for this post; it brought back some great memories.

Anthony Hopkins is such a nice man. His expressions didn't change at all when he lost. He was smiling throughout.

Robin Williams' performance in "Good Will Hunting" was what life is. People are precious, damaged and sustained by hope when the pain of life has almost conquered them. What a performance he gave.

what a screen and stage legend. He never needed his welding back up trade. I think Hollywood was to reserved with his type casting. He had the ability to morph into any character. A greatly missed Genius.

Robin Williams was without a doubt the most outstanding comedian and actor and husband and humanitarian of my life

The heartbreaking tragedy that he could not find or hold on to the joy in life that he brought to so many others.

I like this because he looks so happy here. I worked on a film with him and spent a day or day and a half with him on the set, in a couple New York locations and he was the most depressed human being I've ever seen in my life.
