    I wrote this after the death of Robin Williams, August 2014. I laughed so much I cried I laughed so much I nearly died It was all too much It was all too little too late The demons that haunted you at night in bed Was the emptiness in your head and not your soul All those years lost searching For redemption from prying eyes not knowing That this clown Was burdened by an unimaginable dark cloud The loss of your dearest departed friend Didn't mean it signaled the end But it did steal something And left a remarkable gift so amazing and profound. When on one hand it took, the other you received and gave It was not enough to silence the millions of critics in your mind Why didn't we spot you were running out of time? I laughed at an Alien called Mork From a planet called Ork My heart blead for the beauty of The Dead Poets Society And how could deary me, Forget Mrs Doubtfire, that wonderful Scottish nanny. The Doctor you played in Good Will Hunting, Gave a tiny clue to your depth of compassion and feeling. But, alas the greatest character you played was the one we never truly knew. S.Miah

    In the 1990's, I worked on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. One day, as I passed the Metropolitan Museum of Art on 5th Avenue, there was a group of, what I guessed to be, grade school, or, possibly, high school students on a class trip milling about on the large stairs leading up to the museum's entrance. Suddenly a limo that had been slowed by the traffic pulled over to the curb and a gentleman got out. You could hear the stir of commotion and excitement from the kids, and it drew my attention. It was Robin Williams! He bounded up the stairs until he reached where they were, shook hands, gave hugs, signed autographs, and mugged it up for some group pictures. And then, just as quickly as he had arrived, he jumped back in his limo, and was off. I thought, what a nice man, a famous personality who did not shun people but, rather, took the time, requested that his driver pull over, and made a magic moment for 50 or so school kids who, I have no doubt, will remember that special NYC moment for the remainder of their entire lives. RIP William. You were a decent, good, and kind human being, and one who never let fame diminish your humanity, your humility.

    Looking back over the years. His interviews, awards, etc. when he wasn’t actively performing you could see the sadness in his eyes, and it breaks my heart now that no one ever asked him why it was there? Maybe if someone had focused on him, and not his comedic skills, he never would’ve committed suicide

    Part of the reason he killed himself wasn’t depression, it’s because he was developing a form of Alzheimer’s and he felt like he was losing his mind. No one could have predicted that

  • @kuhntzzz

    @kuhntzzz

    @@jiyu9277 exactly what i was going to say. people also /did/ start checking up on him in the months leading up to his suicide. they noticed something was wrong and robin would just reassure the people in his life he was fine. how could have anyone predicted that? how is anyone at fault? it’s a situation where nobody is to blame and the point is that the people closest to him did focus on him rather than his humor. he suffered from depression towards the end for sure but a symptom of lewy body dementia is depression as well. in the words of his wife it was the dementia that killed him, and depression was a small symptom out of many.

LADIES N GENTLEMEN. *ROBIN WILLIAMS & JIM CARREY in a shot together.* Two of the best improv comedic geniuses in the planet...HUGGING. No Ego, only happy for one another. Robin mentioning and acknowledging Jim on stage during acceptance speech and all..wow! Only sad thing is how these comedy geniuses suffer in mentally in their personal life...how they harbor all these other emotions like anger, frustration, disappointment, sadness, anguish..etc. just like all other people and yet have no way to let it out because of their job and how they are viewed by the world. It's very very hearbreaking to realise that Robin is no longer with us. Hoping and praying that he will make it to Heaven like all other good souls.

    You know, parasitic fans sure do make a big deal out of how "crazy" Jim Carrey has gotten in the eccentric way he lives his life, his weird art, and the way he chooses to deal with his inner demons. All I'm going to say is that I came here from a video of Jim Carrey and Robin Williams together-- and Jim is still with us at 57, still making interesting acting choices, telling stories, and making people laugh. Robin is not. I don't know what peace Jim finds in the way he's chosen to live his life or the unusual things he does with his time. But if he's found an answer for himself that brings him peace and makes this world bearable to him, and if that's part of what keeps him here with us a little longer, I'll never judge him for it ever again. I'd give anything for Robin Williams to still be here with us, even in a weird-looking beard, even dealing with his problems through crazy paintings or bizarre rambling interviews. Comedians especially seem to endure emotional extremes for our personal amusement, and to make our lives better, and to spare us from some of the suffering they face every day. I'm just glad they are here to do it, and as long as what they do isn't hurting anyone else, I'll never pass judgment on these wonderful wild souls ever again. We miss you, Robin.
