It's brilliant that Dustin and Robin made amazing films in drag, and they both starred in Hook together.

And Bob Hoskins and Dustin Hoffman decided to play their characters as lovers. Apparently Steven Spielberg was furious when he found out 😄 🤣
Now we need to see Dustin Hoffman talk about Robin Williams' performance as Mrs. Doubtfire.

I don't think he should. The genius of Hoffman's Tootsie is that it is not a farce. It doesn't use crossdressing as a gag where the performance of womanhood is cartoonish. That allows Tootsie to speak (in its very 1982 way) about the experience of gender in a fully embodied sense. Williams, hilarious though he may be, gave us a cartoonish and ridiculous character that was far more myopic - the desperate efforts of a flawed man to be a family man. Whereas Tootsie addressed the humanity of womanhood and outlined a character that grew by seeing the world through a woman's eyes, Mrs. Doubtfire addressed the selfish pursuit of redemption of a single man.

@@ems7623 Yup...you read waaaaaaaaay too much into Tootsie. Unfortunate how people project these things onto films in order to feed their own personal agendas. Tootsie is an excellent film, and so is Mrs Doubtfire

@@commanderkeen3787 no idea why he’s describing a children’s comedy as ‘selfish pursuit of redemption of a single man’. It’s just a different kind of film. When it comes to cartoonish female characters it makes me think of Some Like it Hot and I’m sure Dustin Hoffmann would have nothing but praise for that film.

Dustin Hoffman had a roommate in Teri Garr's 1982 family comedy, Tootsie. How come Robin Williams didn't have a roommate after he got divorced in his 1993 family comedy, Mrs. Doubtfire?

RIP Amazing actor whom we shall never forget!😞💔🙏
I wonder if Robin and Dustin talked about how they both played women. Mrs. Doubtfire came out two years after Hook, so I like to imagine that the two met up sometime during the later stages of making Hook, and Robin was like, "Hey! They want me to play a guy disguised as a women in my next movie!" and Dustin was like, "Welcome to the club, Rob."

And Mrs. Doubtfire's comedian, Robin Williams also did a hilarious and fantastic comedy duo with Tootsie's comedienne, Teri Garr in The Tale of the Frog Prince episode of Shelley Duvall's Faerie Tale Theatre.
never in doubt of his talent but, did he just improvised the bit over the comedy suicide right from scratch? coz it made me laugh outloud bigtime! it's crazy good
I miss him A warm and funny man, a sad clown. Under each smile he flashed and silly rhetoric to make us laugh, lurked a profound sadness. Sending you hugs wherever you are Robin. I miss you and your brilliance.

Amazing. He's a genius. He has so much talent he could actually donate to hundreds of today's Hollywood "stars" that are lacking it, and still have a ton left for himself.

BOTH Williams and Hoffman are GREAT actors. Plus, Williams is a great comedian.
Love how this just ended up being him talking about Elaine May which he considers an influence but she also wrote The BIrdcage which he starred in, and Tootsie, the movie he was talking about in the first place.
Robin when he played seroius roles was brilliant
OMG, he really could do all this in real time.
Both movies were absolutely hilarious.

There are 3 crossovers between Robin Williams' 1993 family comedy, Mrs. Doubtfire and Teri Garr's 1982 family comedy, Tootsie. One is the Frog Prince episode of Faerie Tale Theatre, Hook and A Simple Wish. Which movie is the real crossover between Robin Williams' 1993 family comedy, Mrs. Doubtfire and Teri Garr's 1982 family comedy, Tootsie? The older he looks the better he looks tbh
Ahora veo esto y me da mucho cringe que hable de pistolas y balas 😢
Is Robin Williams aging in reverse? He looks half his age here!
How old is this video, he looks younger, unless he had botox or something.
again, the red/ magenta is too high by 20% the saturation is too high by 10-15%
In the bible "peter" "the pan" hung himself, this guy played peter pan in the movie Hook with dustin hoffman then he hung himself to death???? Why did he hang himself? Anybodee???
they created real women..not drag that is why we missed them when they became Men again in there movies
Unpopular opinion, OK maybe unpopular depending. The role of Dorothy should’ve gone to Robin wrath than Dustin Hoffman.
The fact that he used suicide as an example of how the movie went is all the more proof this clip hasn't aged well.
haha - Robin's still funny...except when he does a black man...yikes I cringe at that. That's one bit he should have retired at the end of 80's...

yeah people got too sensitive for that
Robin without cocaine was boring.
Mrs. Doubtfire was the most excruciatingly unfunny movie ever made. Williams clearly was touched with genius, but he was a relief pitcher not a starter. Lee Smith with the 110 mph fastball or Bruce Sutter with the ball evading the bat ala It Happens Every Spring. But for 3-6 outs, not for 9 innings. Name a movie in the history of movies less funny than William's Flubber. And he kept at it. To almost the last day of his life he was churning out abysmally bad movies that abused and misused his incredible talent. Yeah. Turn Robin Williams into caffenated Tom Hanks. These two movies - Tootsie & Doubtfire are only Lionized now because we want to demolish every last spark of masculinity in America. Jack Benny was funnier in Charlie's Aunt.

@@janeausten2908 Cheers to you as well. The movie made a lot of money so obviously a lot of people liked it. The critics are more sharply divided. I thought Birdcage was funnier. But stand-up and comedic acting are distinct skills. In my dissenting view,, Williams was a stand-up comedian of the very first rank and a comedy actor of the second rank. Though he is a bit leprous at the moment, I thought Woody Allen excelled at both stand-up and comedic acting.
