Thinking about it, metallica has never really had a bad bass player. Cliff was a genius, Jason had insane vocals and energy, and Rob is just an awesome guy (with a lot of skill, too!)

@@icankillbugs their songwriting actually got better and better. They still got the almost progressive Justice like stuff like for example Atlas Rise. But they also arent afraid to just write a simple song with a very strong hook or go into a more hard rock kind of territory. Just because you started as a pure Thrash band doesnt mean you have to stay that. In fact if you do the risk of burning yourself out is extremely high

Brother they didn't really do so wrong by Jason... if not for metallicas 1st incarnation I doubt anyone would have ever heard of him. I'm not knocking his talent by any means, he was no Cliff but neither is Rob as good as Jason. Or maybe it's more that all 3 were definitely different styles of bass players... in any event Jason helped fill the hole left by Cliffs early demise and wrote and played the bass lines thru some of their greatest music and as a bonus he's eternally mega rich and free and able to pursue any and all things he wants to whether they be musical or not... That's why I think it's hard to say they done wrongly by him, without them he wouldn't have all of that and the 2nd luckiest group of all are metallica fans because it's possible if they hadn't found Jason we could have lost metallica... That would have been a tragedy beyond compare and metal music wouldn't be the same... Not saying it would suck, only that it'd be very different without their influence post Cliff....

I would kind of agree, Cliff Burton was and is Metallica at the end of the day. But Rob is a great player and seems like a humble guy. I'm happy for him, i'd sure love a full time gig w/Metallica over my 40+ hour job lol

@@trevorbounce454 Yep 👍🏻 correct sir 🍻. It’s definitely Sanitarium. I’ve been listening to Metallica ever since Kill ‘Em All and Metallica was a brand new band nobody had ever heard before. ( I think I was 13 ) I gotta admit the mostly down picked choppy hypnotic riffs and even just the title thrash metal were definitely a new style at the time. I’ve been playing guitar for 38 years now and that style riffage is still to this day what I like best. It’s just fun to play , especially if you really nail it on a good day ! 😄 it’s also easy to blow it if you screw up the rhythm… Damn Hetfield is Fast as F at certain times 🎸💨 and you gotta be just as fast as him or it just doesn’t sound quite right.
