I love the clarinets in this. Our middle school band played this last year at ISSMA and we got 2nd place. This song NEVER gets old.

That sudden moment when you thought you were playing fast enough and then you listen to this... :O

Oh my gosh ikr! We are working through this piece for our spring concert, and I honestly thought our band was playing pretty good and somewhat fast, but when I listened to this I was like oh man.

Our band could play this at 154 beats. During UIL, we played it at 158 on accident, but then it slowed back down to 154.

My band will be playing at this tempo during the concert.

I played this in my middle school all state honor band, and it was 3 hours away, with no band teacher, and nobody I knew. The band and conductor was so great. It's just amazing to see how people can become friends and bond over the great aspect of life music. I cried during the oboe solo

Just gave this song another listen. I remember when my director told me I going to play the trumpet solo and how excited I was. Stay in band it gives you memories and lessons that will help you in life.

Even after a year, I still listen to this. My middle school honor band performed Choreography for UIL, and I played 1st clarinet. Amazing piece. I still remember each note by heart. Beautiful!

Regina Vaughn yeah, I get what you mean, we are playing it in 6th grade, and we can't play it perfectly, but we can play it really well. It's only because our school is one of the best musical schools in the county and whoever comes here they do it to become a musician. (most of the time) But hey, I agree with you almost completely.

Well, I'm in percussion, I play the xylo, vibes, and bells. So awesome.

that trumpet solo though, played that in my sophomore year in highschool

+patriots20002 You have to sound very convincing in order to actually ace that solo. The demonstration in this song was very beautiful and elaborate, you can tell that the trumpeter really understands what he's playing, and that he feels it.

Beautiful Trumpet solo for the win!

I played second clarinet on this when I was in 7th grade (the band was made up of 7th-12th graders) directed by Robert Sheldon and I honestly think this is a real musical masterpiece.

how many people r only listening to this song because they playing it for UIL.... that's why I looked it up now I'm just in love with it😍😍

My band literally has 5 euphoniums so this song was perfect for us, especially when they put one of us on trombone part, gives our band a big, dark and rich sound.

I absolutely love everything about this song! My band just got it and the bass clarinet part for this song, although not heard, is incredibly beautiful. I just love this song in general.

This song is very special to me because I had moved to a new school across the country in the middle of the year and this was the first song I played with them.

Good song, played this back in 9th grade in 2012

I performed this with our community band. I have since left the band, due to moving across the state. I miss the high caliber performances and the great music I performed with them. I am hoping to soon get into another community band of the same caliber as the one I had to leave. This piece is so beautiful. It makes me cry to hear it and remember how much I miss my friends in band. As a 2nd trombonist, I had a lot of fun with this piece.

Horn counter-melody is quite fun to play.

I played this 2 years ago in 7th grade and now I’m in 9th grade so I’m in high school, and my middle school band is playing it again and its so cute!

omg i get such nostalgia from listening to thisssssss! my band played this is 7th grade and it was absolutely the best time of my life. i had such good friends who are in high school now and we would always wave at each other during concerts and stuff. i remember during our uil performance, we just kind of look at each other and smiled, prompting all of us to do our best

I'm the only 1st part trumpet for this piece but between the two solos I think the 2nd one is scary because it's just you playing and a baritone

Im in band at Manatee high school and It's humbling to go to the same school and be in the same music program Mr. Sheldon was in. He just wrote us an amazing new piece called resurgences for our centennial. He has also written another one for us a while back called Manatee Lyric Overture it is also very pretty

We played this in 7th grade, it was and still is my favorite piece I've ever played

I played this my junior year in concert band. It was fun

Our band teacher has just announced, on the last day of school, that we have one term to learn this piece for presentation night at our school. I love the song, but I am a clarinet 2 player and I have the solo for that song. AHHH! :)

I love the melody the flutes and clarinets play at 0:34-0:55.

So happy that the tuba part gets something OTHER than just normal baseline through the whole song! Playing this in 7th is kinda easy yet hard XD

Mahari Johnson we dont have oboes. So we had a clarinet play it. And a flute alternate

I enjoyed playing this song... It is a great peice, written by a great man/composer. Though, I do have to say after I got the grasp on Metroplex by Robert Sheldon, I like that one much more. It shows the variety of styles a band can play, and also shows off the versatility of the Saxophone. I got the Alto solo, and transposed the English Horn solo as well because we didn't have one. :p That might've been what did it for me, but none the less I think it's all and all a better peice.

my district honor band played this piece. I had the oboe solos.

My school's other band played it, but we played forge of vulcan, a sailor's odyssey, trail of dreams, synergies, Motown revue, and The North Face instead. The other band did this and three other pieces.

During the trumpet solo, the 5th chair player has to play it, because no one else can. And btw people, he's a freshmen, and so are most of our soloists. Age does not matter. How good you play matters.

I played this in 7th grade on the piccolo ❤❤❤ memories😢

We were supposed to play this for this years UIL but unfortunately it was cancelled because of everything being closed by the Coronavirus and this was one I was looking forward to performing. I guess you never really know what you have until you've lost it, speaking in a dramatic sense.

I played this peice a year or 2 ago. and i also remembered playing velocity by sheldon last year. if you ask me, he is just amazing at any kind of peice. from velocity a faster paced peice or this a mixture of the two.

The oboe solo at 1:10 is possibly one of the most beautiful things in existence.

First time playing timpani in my life and MAN is this song a bitch to start off on lol.

This is Commemoration Overture were both super fun songs for Timpani at least, hard at first but quite rewarding after practice

The staccato parts remind me of a TV news theme, where they use that kind of rhythm to simulate Morse code.

I played this song for Singapore International Band Festival and got 93/100 for the song. I play 1st clarinet and play both the solo for bar 44-48 and the oboe solo for bar 49-55.

I have to plat xylophone, bells, and vibes on this. Wish me luck
