Choreography
By Robert Sheldon
Item: 00-31724
Series: Alfred Concert Band
Format: Conductor Score & Parts
Grade: 3.5
Choreography was commissioned by the 2008 ATSSB All-State Band by the Association of Texas Small School Bands. Written in overture form, the piece draws its inspiration from dance movements found in contemporary stage, ballet and theatrical productions. The piece opens with fast-paced angular gestures accompanied by rapid rhythmical punctuations before yielding to a contrasting lyrical section with long, flowing lines and many opportunities for expressive playing. The infectious beat patterns and memorable melodic content combine to make this an excellent concert opener. (5:33) This title is available in SmartMusic.

I played this last year in 7th grade while sitting first chair Flute, before a bunch of 8th graders in an honor band. I was terrified, when I saw it but spent literally hours at home putting it together. I learned it in 2 weeks, and will forever remember my director say we got straight 1's at UIL. The proudest moment of my life.

Me and my best friend at the time, shared the oboe and trumpet solo together in middle school and it was such a defining moment in our friendship. I hope you come across this in your nostalgia trip one day and read this and remember the memories and endless hours we spent perfecting this transition and piece with our group. Such a lovely and simpler time. To go back I’d give literally every ounce of existence… Have a great day guys remember to practice and always revisit old pieces you’ve played. I played the trumpet solo in high school 10 years ago, and it is something I will always remember. Being in front of so many people (probably thousands), heart racing fast, and then I just take a deep breath and play it. One of the moments in my life that I can truly be proud of. I miss those days. I have been lucky enough to be able to continue playing during college just for fun, and to my surprise our band is playing this song. All of the emotions and memories from back then come rushing back every time we play it.

I've never been able to find a video to help with the intervals between the f and c on clarinet, they're not hard notes but the transition between both without retounging just sounds squawnky

@dannyli9129 haha didn't realize I commented this. I have since greatly improved and discovered what voicing was. Turns out I just needed a little more air support and actually curved fingers made it easier to quickly transition
