    870 Wagons are the BADDEST fucking cars on Earth. No question! The sedan 870s are beast as hell too. Very slightly better handling on each body style depending on your desire for hard corners. The wagons have minimal body lean and excellent rear rigidity, but the sedans have zero body roll with slightly less rear rigidity. I'm torn which is better from a performance stand point. I love anything with a 53 engine code. Goddamn things are amazing. T5 are the only letters I NEED in my life.

I'd like to pickup a second, funner Volvo to compliment my '98 S70 NA Auto. Do you think it makes more sense to seek a factory manual 850 estate and then work it into a turbo, rather than manual swap a turbo model? I suppose if you want a true T5 or T5R or 850R or what have you then in the US you probably need to do a manual swap.. i NEED a Vo like the Panther!!

    If I would live in the US, I would indeed swap the automatic transmission for a manual transmission. The pleasure and fun you get from a manual transmission over the automatic transmission is incredible. You can feel the power and the torque from the engine and shift yourself. And I would recommend it even more if you do it on a turbo 850. Sadly, many 850's in America were sold with automatic transmission... Finding a 850 with a manual transmission nowadays in America is just so incredibly rare. Let alone the T5-R and R's! Luckily I'm from the Netherlands and here you can find 'em much easyer so swapping is not needed.

    Could you go into greater detail about your perceived differences with the 18/19t stock vs hybrid upgrade? How much better response and where in the powerband? I have a stock 19t from a parts car already- the hybrid rebuild is spendy versus just installing a used turbo. Would the extra $500 be worth it? Also- the hybrid upgrade is a turbo rebuild+ modified billet compressor wheel, is that all? Thanks man! Love the videos.

  • @RobertDIY

    @RobertDIY

    3 жыл бұрын

    There are at least 3 improvements. Compressor wheel, turbine wheel, and thrust bearing. Less lugging, quicker spool and I was told they should produce about 30% more power. If you are happy with stock you will be good. I was more than happy with my stock 19T. Now I have less lugging and quicker speed at the pedal.

I would love to get an update about availability and cost to obtain one for my 1997 T-5 wagon. Also, diagnostics revealed that my rear wheel’s abs sensor needs replacing. One more upgrade that I personally think you really should do at least on panther is a steering wheel cover. I noticed that yours is starting to dull for my age and my guess is that it probably feels grungy at times as well. The steering wheel on my CRV Was starting to feel grungy and I just bought a steering wheel cover for it and let me tell you it’s 100% better grip

    Hey Robert, what’s your opinion on adding a turbo to a 99 na v70? I don’t know tons, nor do I have any experience working on this engine but I am thinking of trying to add a turbo. My main concern is that the na engine has too much compression for any boost, and that that would cause gremlins over time. Or would that benefit the performance? (I would probably use parts from a junker T5 or something similar) Anyways, just wondering what your thoughts are on the idea. Thanks!

    I think the best part of an aluminum radiator upgrade would be the mounting tabs not being made of plastic. With the plastic end tanks, if you bottom out really hard it can actually break the tabs on either side of the radiator. There's a lot of weight being supported by those two tabs: The radiator itself, the intercooler, and your ac condenser.
