100% agree. The performance was magnificent, it was recorded both for musical and visual enjoyment and it was the perfect ending, every one was still able to "bring it". Far too often bands stay at the party for too long. I was a teen in the 80's (who listened to all hard rock and metal) and I have seen some of those 80's bands go way past their prime. Singers you can't sing anymore I won't mention names but there are far more who can't than those that can. Plus seeing a 65 year old metal grandpa in leathers and makeup is just weird. To quote Jack Black at the Kennedy Center show "Best band EVER" and they ended it with class, that did the their fans and history proud.

Otherwise I like the way Robert Plant has built his career with good solo albums since 1982, and occasionally with Jimmy Page and Alison Krauss. I admire Plant. Creatively speaking the man is doing what makes him happy (and I like the musical direction he has taken). And yeah, I kind of agree with him; many "classic rock" bands have reduced themselves to little more than nostalgia acts trying to squeeze whatever cash they can out of audiences that look like they'd be just as home in a reverse mortgage commercial. I mean I look at a guy like Phil Collins and...well...there are just those times when it would be far more appropriate to simply ride off into the sunset with dignity intact. I also lump acts like the Stones into that category; as much as I love the mid-period (1968 through 1974) material the band cranked out, they're kind of sad to watch now. Sure, some die-hard fans may vehemently disagree with me and that's fine, but I find it kind of ironic (and not in the best sense of the word) watching a bunch of elderly guys trying to prance around playing tunes about youthful rebellion. So I can completely understand where Plant is coming from and I respect how he has sort of embraced his age and is growing old with style.

What I admire about Plant is that he's at least trying something new. While you may hate the recent material Plant is producing (and that's your choice which you're entitled to), I tend to suspect that he couldn't care less because the guy is doing what he likes and wants to perform now. Sure, his time fronting Zeppelin bought him that prerogative, but he's not wallowing in the past trying to recreate a long gone image. It was 8 years earlier, on the same stage that I saw a young Page with Beck in the Yardbirds. They were supporting another band that night, - The Rolling Stones with Brian Jones. Also, Marriane Faithful and Peter Jay. I think Long John Baldry was there as well. But I remember Page that night, as something stood out about him. Even as a young teenager I saw something that was going to come out. And it did,.....

When he does any Zep tunes now, it's like he peeling back layers of time, and revealing things that influenced the song itself or fed into the arrangement as we know it. Zeppelin was often a modernized, turbocharged blues combo. When he does those songs today, they can seem ancient. Not dated. Closer to their pre-zep source, and a revelation. The bands he's recorded and toured with since Raising Sand have been excellent partners in that process.

Look at the footage from those 2007 shows. Robert handled his age & vocal duty quite well, but damn, the thing that struck me, was how hard physically it was for Jimmy Page. Jimmy started off the shows looking great but as you see videos of songs much later in the gigs (I think they did a few shows in London?), his coat & vest is off, his shirt is soaked and he's puffing big time. I think those close to Jimmy would caution him against trying that again.

You definitely have to commend him for this. There are so many bands who go back in on the road who have no business being there and end up leaving fans with distorted memories of what once was. Mötley Crüe and Bon Jovi come to mind. where the singers cant do what they used to vocally and it ends up not only ripping off the fans, because they charge such exorbitant amounts of money to see them again.… But, it ends up destroying the legacy by showing cracks in the foundation. Perceived perfection replaced with the current woes due to age and being out of shape and practice. Nobody wants to hear the hits they remember 2 to 4 steps down in key. they want to hear them, as they were on the album. something that can only be accomplished with a singer who has kept their voice in tiptop shape and even then it’s not a given. As very few singers, especially those who have that extended range, actually do. So God bless Robert Plant for making that conscious decision and leaving fans with the memory intact, instead of warped.

Jon Bon Jovi said the key change in "Living On A Prayer" was not clearly thought out. "My young self thought, 'yeah, I can hit that A', not thinking that I would have to sing that 30 years later." One caveat to this was Ronnie James Dio. Listen to the original recording of Black Sabbath's "Children of The Sea" and then listen to one of Dio's last performances of the song in his group Heaven and Hell. The lower key in the latter performance in my opinion makes the song even darker and distopian.

@@trfatman exactly. The song is hard enough to sing in the actual key, not to mention taking it up even higher towards the end when your vocals are already being maxed out. LoL. just insane how they thought they were going to pull that off on a nightly basis on a worldwide tour for more than a few years. which is why you hear them do many other higher songs down a few keys. Not only them, but many bands. Especially if you want any longevity.

I have a lot of respect for Robert Plant. I think trying to recreate the magic that ended when he was 32 years old as a now 74 year old would be impossible. I also think he misses John Bonham greatly, both as a friend and a drummer; I'm sure he loves Jason, but John was one of his best friends and I'm sure it just wouldn't be the same. But if tickets when on sale tomorrow would I attempt to buy a couple? Absolutely.

I held out with genuine hope it would happen up until about 5 or 6 years after the last reunion in 2007 (so about 10 years ago) It’s quite sad as the rest of the band with Johns son Jason on Drums all wanted it and tried to make it happen (even auditioning other singers, Myles Kennedy & Steven Tyler) trying to get Plant on board but In the end he doesn’t want to do it. Such a shame. I think he could have done it justice up until a few years ago but the time has passed now. Very sad

Planty probably has the most integrity of any musician I know. He has turned down massive offers, that other bands would sell their souls for, just to keep respect for his old band and for the memory of Bonzo. He isn’t interested in being a jukebox turning out the hits night after night. We will not see his kind again. Rock on 🤟🏽

In 1970 ("Immigrant Song" was their new single and again in 1971 where they introduced "Stairway to Heaven" as their brand new single. They had never performed it live (we were the first audience)! Wonderful memories, I don't need to see them in concert again.
