Robert Marchand (109 years old) - The Oldest Cyclist in The World. Inspiring Motivation

Robert Marchand is a French centenarian who has not stopped cycling even after his 100th birthday. A very petite man, 152 centimeters tall, thin and modest, he told reporters: "For a guy who's a hundred years old, I feel pretty good." Of course, because he rode a bicycle for more than half a century! Robert Marchand has several world records on his account.

What an inspiration. I also started cycling again at the age of 68. six years ago. In that 6 years, I have clocked up 49500km. I have never felt better. I'm hoping I can keep cycling for a few more years. I always say that as long as I can keep cycling, I will be OK. Once I need to stop for some reason, I will probably decline quickly as I had a heart attack when I was 62.

If you live in the hills or in a windy area, I recommend an e-bike. It will help you on the way up and against a headwind while still giving you a good workout. While e-bikes are not cheap, they are worth every cent for someone who rides regularly.

@@ozimarco Just get a triple chainring, with wide range gearing you can go up any hill or against any wind. I see people on these e bikes riding 25 mph and barely pedaling. Might as well walk and at least get a little exercise.

  • @stevengagnon4777

Spend a little more and get a pedal assisted type that doesn't have a separate throttle control. These will match your effert but go a little faster. The fun factor from the extra speed will enhance the overall experience especially getting up those hills an wind. As a bicycle mechanic I started assembling them in my late 50s and those bikes always put a smile on my face during the test ride . That aspect of the experience is good for both physical and health and overall well-being not to mention staying sharp minded. The power assist also is valuable when it comes to negotiating with all motor vehicles and heavy traffic . Being able to accelerate more quickly and closely match the speed of traffic makes everything safer. I know this because those test rides were taken on Regent Street right on campus down town in Madison Wisconsin. By the way the pedal assisted type I talking about will stop assistance around 20 or 28 mph depending on how it's equipped. You are all on your own once you exceed the speed governor. Recommend the 28 mph type if heavy traffic is part of the routine ride. The 20 mph are perfect for riding on the dedicated multiuser bike paths and legal in most places it's best to keep the speed lower on those for everyone's benefit you are sharing the path with people that aren't necessarily paying attention their immediate surroundings and you don't want to run into a dog for instance at 25 anyway. Runners have a tendency of going around slower moving people with out looking. Point being be prudent on the path with an ebike. I the polite thing to do. I also recommend that you get it from a full service bicycle shop the free tuneup and access to experienced mechanics during the warranty period is worth a lot of money as ebikes are more expensive to maintain. A helpful staff with good communication skills will just add to overall experience. You will know from the initial test rides if the staff communicates with you in your terminology from the beginning the staff will always be helpful. If they put you off, talk over you or make you uncomfortable try a different one. You want to have a good long term relationship with them so it should start out good.

@@stevengagnon4777 WoW I appreciate your advice and tips! I wasn't going to buy an e-bike now I think I might but still not sure. Main reason why I hadn't considered buying an e-bike is because I'm too scared to go on roads and where I live here in Australia it's pretty flat. There's plenty of paths around here to ride on where you don't have to worry about cars. I think riding on a bike should be relaxed and casual though a good work out, and not be stressed by traffic, and petrol emissions is not healthy too. Have a great day.

I don't need willpower to ride my bike. Not being able to ride is punishment for me. I'm currently on a two-week overseas holiday and I miss my bike like crazy.

If you can still walk and cycle unassisted at age 105+. You're a miracle. He probably was one in a billion to cycle like that at his age. Just a few months off to being a supercentenarian he died. But he probably was much fitter then most females his age group or even older. As expected, only a very petite and feather light body can survive for this long and be relatively functional.

mark veen He is not a miracle. All he is is what every human being can achieve if lives by the laws of nature. It is not such a grandiose and grand achievement as it is made out to be.

@@glennrobinson7193 No,not everyone is supposed to get that old-this guy was 5 foot(1,50m) and a featherweight! That wouldn’t have been possible for a guy who is 1,90m The taller you are the more your heart has to work to pump the blood up to the brain 🫀 🧠 🫁
