I had to keep reminding myself that this was just one man and one guitar (no looper, no effects and hardly an explicit anchoring chord, yet the whole thing feels complete). Glorious.

He's anchored, some would say trapped, by 3 chords.
Robbens dynamics is just insane. he has such a distinct touch when he plays switching from fingers to pick to jazzy thumbed chord voicings.
So tasteful and amazing!!!

What a display of right hand control. No volume pedal needed here! Shredders take note: THIS is what dynamics look like.
This video is the first time I have ever encountered Robben Ford and just wow - how did I not hear this guy before? Amazing amazing amazing. God I wish I could play like that. His timing, his phrasing, just wow.

Just look into his resume, I have yet to encounter one more impressive.
World class player, has it all, clean tone, chops, groove, unique in his approach. Not many can sit just with a guitar and groove like this.
His gift is in the phrasing. Yes he can blaze, but he is always playing the scale that runs through the chord; a very huge element to his uniqueness. I've taken two of his master classes in Ojai, CA, and it definitely moved me out of my box. Can I do any of the stuff he does? No, but his classes broke the barriers I was stuck in.

I wasn't trying to be rude. I had tried the site the instant I had heard about the clinics.. I don't know if you were just so excited in the attempt to stick to me; but like I found when I had checked the site then, it's only up to date until 5/12/2015 so it does no good to anyone for now. Thanks anyway?

+Jacob S I was being rude and I apologize. I didn't look at the website, just posted the url from memory. I did some other searching and really couldn't come up with much. I remember some rumors from a couple of years ago that Robben wanted to slow down and work less. There's a site called "Robben Ford Discussion Index" that has a lot of participation on all things Robben. You could post a question there and see if anyone knows anything. I don't have that url and can't get it on this little tablet without losing this post. Good luck. He was also a guest artist at a National Guitar Workshops class I took in 2005. He's really very shy but willing to have an intelligent discussion or answer a question.
I watch this video like once a month. His playing is so pure and genuine and tasteful.. I’m not normally spiritual, but I thank the universe that we have Robben Ford.
Like his phrasing & the way he morphs from riff to riff
No doubt Ford and Carlton are the top of the heap. Roben less jazzy and more direct blues approach can only be described as classy and tasteful. A pleasure to listen and watch.
This is the level of playing you get when you live with a guitar in your hands from sun up to sun down. Few have that kind of time or even the will to do so. Robben is an amazing guitarist.( understatement)

I think we both agree he is brilliant
Robben puts so much feel into his playing. I think he is one of the best I've ever heard. He is definitely a legend. I'm a fan.
His extensive musical vocabulary and knowledge/experience makes his "stories" very cohesive, interesting and pleasantly surprising. Soulful? YES.
In the early days of the internet, I read an interview with Peter Frampton, a guitarist that everyone has heard of. He mentioned being a fan of Robben, who I had heard of but was not familiar with. Soon after, I purchased a cd copy of “Handful of Blues” by Robben Ford and the Blue Line. Been a fan ever since. Unique tone and style, and I can’t tell where the blues ends and the jazz starts, or vice-versa!😎 Always interesting!
he's such an awesome player. Of all the players considered "blues", he understands harmony the best...imo.
20 years ago I saw him at Jazz Alley in Seattle. Initially there was only one show, but so many people wanted to get in to see him that they added a second show that attenders of the first show could stay for. It was an incredible experience and I’m really grateful that I had the pleasure of seeing him perform.
I love his playing...the licks..the phrasing..completely all..thats pure Blues..😎
What a fine and classy guitarist. One of the best in the world.

he's telling a story with his guitar! Great sound!
What a great art form and thanks Robben for being so commited to it!
Mind blowing music and talent. He's simply awesome!
This is the guy that turned me from a heavy metal player to a blues player in the 90s

Stunning, fantastic sound, amazing taste e dynamics..... How can you just even thinking to dislike this video....? Absolutely one of my favourite guitar player.
Really nice impro, beautiful notes and feeling, Totally addicted !!! thanks for sharing
Great guitarist, he's got a fusion of jazz and blues style.
Hands down the most humble, talented guitarist of our time. Don’t get me wrong , there are a lot of GREATS out there. SRV comes to mind, John Mayer doesn’t get the credit he deserves, but Robben is just on a whole other level. Pure musician......rare these days.

@rahoo4114

I just was about to say that. Mayer is girly selled as a cute boy with a guitar, more like a lullaby singer for the ladies, great musician thou, blues minimal, great sounding, a bit sell-out composer. Look at Kenny Wayne Shepherd to see what he would be doing if money wouldn't matter. Robben he is beyond any guitar player. Never to good to not sound blues, and a great taste for acid licks. In his early days with Miles he was a funky beast.
Beautiful from start to finish.. sooo many great ideas.. and his tone, touch, class and finesse!!!!!!
Beautiful, beautiful playing. The touch Robben has is just intoxicating.
So clean and concise. Great phrasing with an awesome melody. Thoroughly gifted but humble. Best guitar talent on earth.
Ya know when I was a kid I saw Jerry Garcia at the stone in San Francisco There was maybe 80 or 90 people in the audience Robben gave me the same impact when I was kid when I saw him live
One of the best! Flawless.
Beautiful .... a master at work with no props, no distractions!
That was a Real Privilege , thank you Robben! God Bless, J... ( Toronto )
Robben has one of the sweetest touch on a guitar - master of tone and dynamics which makes him outstanding.
Such time and groove-amazing...
And guaranteed he’s never played this before. Exactly like this at least. Which is the whole point. The beauty of the blues. Awesome stuff!
