It was interesting to hear your thoughts on your choice not to wild camp. I agree with you that primarily these trips have to be about enjoying yourself and being able to appreciate the landscape you travel through. If you are tired and exhausted from not being able to sleep properly you cannot fully do this. When I backpack with my wife we do a mixture of B&B and camping. She would like more B&Bs I would like more wild camps ! I do love the solitude of wild camps in remote lonely places, but I am lucky that I manage to sleep well and on these trips overnight recovery is very important. What is evident from this series is your enjoyment of the walk. Thanks again for sharing.

Thank you 🙏 I have walked for many years but day hikes only. Trail thru-hiking is new to me in the last 5 years but I’ve done 8 long distance hikes now. As I said, the last 5 have been camping but I was pushing myself too hard for the reasons I explained. I really enjoyed the RRW, I was so relaxed and saw many beautiful things. 👌

Oh I love these misty mornings.. You really don´t have to appologize for the comfort of a dry room and warm bed after a long distance walk. The scenery of stage 4 is a little bit like here where I live in Bavaria (except the beautiful loch...) The falls of Moness are really beautiful and the way indeed very nice. Hurry on Justin!

Thanks Beda 👍 Having wild camped for 3 years I decided to change it for this trail. Just wanted to explain why. The mist was beautiful with the sun bursting through and it turned into top class day. I lived in Stuttgart for a while, visited Bayern a few times (Königssee & Kehlsteinhaus) and this day also reminded me of the Schwäbische Alb a little bit. And a beer to finish, cheers! 🍺 🤠

That was a nasty bit of mist in the morning. I know there is nothing you can do about it, but to he honest...I am always very happy when it disappears. Especially on a scenic trail.

I enjoyed following along again Justin and your musings on ways to do a trail which is something I’ve thought about more recently, I certainly didn’t think about options say 30 plus years ago. I just did it with my tent and that was it. For me that day into aberfeldy I felt really poorly and I enjoyed the comfort of the campsite the following day I felt much better. My father was 83 when he did his last backpacking trip and he did moan at me a lot about wanting to stay in hotels and b&bs he even offered to pay 😅but I said come on Dad you can do it this will be your last trip. We did the Dales Highway which is an excellent route and one I would recommend to you Justin. Anyway all the best and kind regards. 🍺

Thanks Dave, I knew people would ask me about not camping, so I put that in. Actually, I waffled on for quite a bit longer but cut it down. I think you might have enjoyed the full Director’s cut! I also wanted to inject a bit more of a conversation style this time (rather than just describing the trail), so it served both purposes. I liked hearing your stories on the RRW (everybody likes stories), and I’ve got loads of them to tell, but it never occurs to me on trail. Probably because I’m pushing on doing 24 miles like a nutter…. I’m not giving up on camping, I’ve invested a lot of time and thought into achieving the lightweight set up I have now. Adding a little more comfort would be worth the extra weight for me. Your Dad went backpacking at 83, blimey! Well done him 👏 I think I did a little bit of the Dales Highway on the C2C between Shap and Kirkby Stephen. Always looking for new trails. Day 5 vid not far away, thanks for coming along with me, and for your kind messages 👍

@@JustinWhiting9 thanks for the long reply Justin , don’t get the Dales Highway confused with the Dales Way. Everybody does when you mention it. The Highway is a much better route. The average miles I usually manage is 15 or less and on the Cambrian way some days we only did between 6 and 10. 🍺cheers
