The thing that impressed me the most about the recital is that you kept going, and improvised if you forgot a section or missed notes. I’m only an intermediate mallet player, trying to learn some more advanced solos, but I was always so terrified to play in recitals because when I miss a note I either try to correct it, pause the music, or repeat the same measure. I’m trying to work on not being so hard on myself and not be perfectionistic haha. Great recital, some very difficult pieces you had to prepare!

As someone is quite unadvanced, the music sounds great. Cant really tell the wrong notes, except for a few parts and even then I dont have the music so I wouldnt be sure unless you told me. Only issue that is obvious is the resonater/non bar strikes. I would be thorougly impressed if I was in that crowd.

I think the biggest takeaway from this video is that any player can grow so much within just a few years. Realizing your mistakes is a sign of growth with what you’re doing. Most of the stuff Adam did wrong back then was musicality stuff, with a few minor technique problems. He was still a phenomenal player physically, it just took this few years for the mental and emotional part to settle in.

I do like looking at my past performances to learn as well - but im not necessarily a big fan of the way you approached it and what it kind of spells out for some of the people - especially the younger or more impressional audience - watching the video. You just seem really degrading. Like I would agree if you, say, auditioned for Heartland Marimba with those performances you'd probably not be recieving a callback. But I think there was plenty you did well - and seeing that acknowledged I feel like would have helped balance the video a bit. I understand the series is called "roasting my past performances" but I've personally struggled as a performer with being obscenely harsh in myself even with performances I've, for all intents and purposes, done really well with. And I feel like this type of video "reinforces" that behavior. I do like alot of your content, and I think you do a fantastic job. I just dont want this video to reinforce an extremely bad behavior that I think runs rampant in the music world, and dare I say runs especially deep in the percussion world. All the best!
