You're the very reason I decided to order my first gas roaster with the Yoshan. I've been roasting for more than 5 years on a Behmor electric drum roaster. Not a bad machine, but I want the consistent roast a gas roaster delivers. I am ordering the 1kg Yoshan roaster and I am super excited to get it and start roasting on it. Thank you for your videos. First thank you a million percent for the videos! In the process of ordering a Yoshan 1kg and after watching most if not all of your video's I just wanted to comment that seeing the Artisan screen primarily and the smaller screen of yourself for the PIP is my favorite.

You are very welcome, Mike. I think that artisan screen is very helpful as well, which is why I started to include it. When did you order the Yoshan 1 kg? Are you the same Mike that I introduced to my contact at Yoshan for the discount?

Great content, subscribed and liked. I might miss it, I see you cut the gas after you reach 420/430F and wait for the 400F to drop the beans. Do you switch the heat back on after you drop the beans in, or only after you reach your TP? in this video at 1:44. What about the air? with the gas cut you let the air off to not drain cold air inside the drum or you leave it on? Thank you

Yes, I kick the gas on right at the charge when I drop the green beans in. What you’re seeing me do it hit the roaster timer and gas right when I open the hopper trap.

In reference to your air question, I never cut the gas nor do I ever cut the airflow. At the end of the roast I will drop from 1K PA or .8 K PA down to .5 K PA, all the while keeping the air flow somewhere between 40 and 60.

Hey Rob, great insight thank you. I am just about to start our company and I’ve also ordered the yoshan 2kg roaster. Do you find you get much smoke and smell of aromas coming off ?? Hoping it’s not to bad so i don’t annoy the neighbours too much. Thanks. Steve

Your neighbors will love the smell. The only time I really got a lot of smoke was when I was seasoning the roaster. I seasoned with 3 batches. It was very smoky. Thick smoke. A neighbor came over because he though the house was on fire. After that it’s been minimal smoke if any at all.

@@steve8076 Ha ha! The roasting smell of coffee actually isn’t bad. Think of it more like someone’s cooking in the neighborhood and you can kind of smell it. Yes, I’m very happy with the roaster so far and I’m finding it quite easy to stay consistent with each batch. I’m using artisan to record every step, which I highly recommend.

I'm curios to know if you are getting scorching without using soaking for the first minute. I mostly get scorching is I charge at 200C to 200c with my Yoshan at full power

I do not have any scorching. 200c shouldn’t scorch unless maybe you’re drum speed is to slow. I preheat to 430f (hovering at 1.8kpa) for about and hour. When I’m ready to charge my first batch I set it to 4kpa, cut the gas, let the temp drop to 400f, charge and hit the gas (4kpa setting) at the same time. Drum speed at 65 and air flow at 40. I don’t soak. Tried it for a while, but like the control I have when I hit the gas at charge.
