We just bought a Adv150. I'm 5'7" 300lbs. My wife is 5' 120lbs. We rode together and max speed was 60. This is a fantastic bike!!!

Similar for us.. 6'2" 235, 5'2" 130 on a ADV160. Still in breaking, but still getting almost 90mpg 2-up in town.

I understand completely on making changes to your liking or need. Because of back and hip issues, I switched to scooters from Harleys. I couldn’t take the weight on my body anymore. I also needed to slow down on the road. My ADV150 keeps me happily on two wheels!

I got a Honda ADV 150 just a month ago. I am losing weight riding it. I'll gladly take that side effect

Trips on bikes like these are absolutely made by having a buddy along.

For such a big guy, he doesn't look like circus act on that Adv150. I'm 6'2" 235# but I think my wife would love one of those for her too. She's 5'10" 160# and I'm guessing she'd be a screamer on that thing.

I picked up a 2022 adv 150 two months ago, what an awesome lil scoot! I also have a goldwing but it sits a lot since i got the scoot lol. I am 6'3 230lbs and it pulls me along no problem and religiously gets 94mpg

I’m not only a first time scooter driver, I’m a first time driver period, so this kind of trip is what I’m building to down the road, great video.

America is more beautiful when seen on rural roads.

I was planning on getting the PCX 160 but after seeing this and watching allot of other things on it, and checking out the accessories for them. The ADV is more what I need. I’ll be doing some touring with it after I move out to CA. Thanks for the great info and on a side note I loved the rant about the haters that was hilarious. I’m with you on that. You get these for you not for them, screw them.

Howdy, JR, and thanks for watching! I don't think you can go wrong with either scooter. The PCX is slightly more efficient because of its aerodynamics and lower seating position. The ADV has better ergonomics with its wide, flat bars and better suspension. The ADV also feels a bit more stable at higher speeds with its wider tires. Neither scooter is really designed with the intention of long-distance touring... they are more suited as city runabouts. However, Honda builds these little machines as tough as nails. All of the ADV150's that entered into the 2021 Scooter Cannonball Run survived the 4500+ mile trip across the country (except for the riders who droped out). I will be riding my 2015 PCX150 6500+ miles around the USA again this June for the 2023 Scooter Cannonball Run, so stay tuned for the adventure! Cheers! 😉👍--QM

I'm intrigued. Probably time to go look at scooting, having ridden bikes forever many years ago. I admire the 125cc offerings, but non-highway has got to top out minimum 65mph with 50mph roads around here. Thanks, this helped!

I just got a 2022 Honda adv 150 and it was the only one they had or could get so I ran down there and grabbed it😈👍👍. This thing is awesome and very fun to ride and at 220lbs it doesn’t feel and ride like I’m putting much weight on it and feels great on the road!

Agreed! I think that Honda could have done better with the ADV150's display by minimizing the clutter, increasing the font sizes, and maybe adding a non-glare cover on the plastic face. Maybe those changes will be incorporated in the next model upgrade. 😉👍 --QM

I have a 2013 pcx 150 it's a blast to ride around town.

That does it, Im buying one tomorrow. They have two red ones at my dealer. I do a regular drive of about 35 miles one way and back at 55-60. I have a Honda Grom that has a intake, Hindle exhaust, tuned ECU, Oil spinner delete, oil cooler and a cam. The Grom will cruise at 60mph at 7k rpms. It just seems a bit to high into the rpms and I want something more suited for cruising. I am 5'7" and weigh 170lbs so I am fairly confident that 60mph cruising is going to be easy for the ADV 150. Ill probably make modifications to the clutch and variator.

Quasi - I think having the event at that campsite will be amazing! If you do I will ride down from New Jersey!

The cut outs on the windscreen are so you can more easily reach the adjuster knobs for the windscreen

What a nice video ! I learned to love small displacement bikes now that I own a CRF300L. THey are fantastic, I rediscovered why I started dual sport in the first place. On a big bike you are so concentrated not to drop it that you can't enjoy the ride anymore. In Europe there are no PCX 150's only 125's but it seems that this year they will come. I am seriosly thinking of getting one for going to the workplace. You are often speaking about the transmision upgrade, what kind of upgrade is that? really enjoyng your adv trips. Thanks for the feedback, and greetings from the USA! Riding smaller, lighter bikes is the essence of motorcycling in my opinion. I grew up riding and racing motorcycles and karts, so making the most of what you had was the essence of the game. Congrats on your CRF300L! I completely agree... riding off-road with a big, heavy bike is clumsy and dangerous. Those big machines break things when the fall down (and they WILL fall). More weight means more kinetic energy, so things are going to break... either parts on the bike or on the rider. I prefer to tackle my off-road chores with a bike that weighs less than 350 pounds (160 kg) so it's easier to manage and that makes the ride much more enjoyable. The transmission upgrades that I installed into my PCX150's will also work on the PCX125 models. You can watch that video here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/n3uDzcygpbLZZpM.html . I just bought a new 2022 pcx 160 so far the rear shocks suck, the seat sucks big time, and i replaced the mirrors. But other than that its a good ride. top speed so far 80mph still stock. but im being kind of easy on it breaking in. its good to see a pcx video, not many in the USA. good video guys!...........were did you get the seat counion? i sure need one of them.

i got a 2020 pcx for my commute but have really put the miles on it, about 24k in two years. mileage around town when the temps are above 80 i am getting about 115mpg but it drops to about 85 when the ride is 60mph or more. like you i am planning on getting the rebel 1100 in the next few months, the low seat being a major factor. how do you like yours so far?

The Rebel 1100 is a great bike, and I'm really enjoying it so far. It's much heavier than the PCX at 508 pounds, but the low seat height and low-slung engine helps to make it more manageable. The DCT is fantastic for commuting and highway trips because you never need to row through the gears, slip the clutch or other drudgery. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

What is your top speed on pcx 150? What year and variator tune do you have? I'm thinking 2019 & 2020 pcx 150 have 149cc and can't be riding on highway. Only 2018 or early have 153cc of even 2021 pcx 160 has 157cc. So what I saw, is 149cc and Below no highway, 150cc and above you can use highway

Awesome New Scoots.....My 1985 Elite 250 will only run 68mph.....Still Runs like new though.

67 MPH he weighs 270 fresh bike, that pretty good for a ADV150cc scooter

They’ll def go upwards of 70mph with someone who’s 147lbs like myself lol I got to test drive one and she was humming at 68 brand new before being broken in! Seriously considering getting this instead of the Navi since I’ll be on the highway at least 8 days a month!

I have not had a motorcycle since I was a teen (I'm in my 40s) been looking and looking and looking for something 2 wheels and I think I am going with the PCX. I like your setup. BUT what's this thing about that makes more power? That would be nice for the Ozarks here, lots of hills. BTW been to Fredericksburg, Texas years ago...Had a wild time with some friends back early 2000s. LOL EDIT: Just watched the new vid. Heck yeah, can't wait for the 2nd one to see how it will run up here.

The PCX is a lightweight scooter with a LOT of surface area, so it tends to get pushed around on the highway. I've learned to keep a light grip on the bars so I don't influence the steering as my body weight is pushed side to side. If you haven't installed a windscreen yet, then you should do that immediately! A properly sized screen (just below eye level) makes a huge difference above 50 mph. I noticed that I was gripping the bars too tightly above 50 mph due to the wind pressure on my chest... that was influencing the bike's handling. The National Cycle VStream screen removed all of my chest pressure, so I wasn't influencing the handlebars as much. Beyond that, I just let it sway around a bit before countersteering so I don't end up wobbling side-to-side as I try to fight gusty conditions. Adrian and I will be riding our PCX150's in the 2023 Scooter Cannonball Run across the USA. We'll have plenty of time to adjust our riding habits for the PCX's highway crosswind dances! I LOVED my 2015 PCX 150. I still believe it's the best all around scooter under 200cc. The one thing keeping it from perfection was the valve adjustment frequency and relative difficulty to access. I've been hoping they add some access panel eventually here to fix that.

Agreed! The valve maintenance procedure is tedious at best, but it's not difficult after the plastics have been removed. I need to do the adjustments again on both of my PCX150's, but I'm not looking forward to the tupperware mess. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

@@KINGTERIK Sorry for the late reply... just saw your comment. Honda lists the valve check/adjustment intervals at only 2.5K miles for the 2015-2018 PCX's! Realistically, it can be stretched to 4-6K miles without worrying. Every time that I've checked mine, the valves are still in-spec. I had the Honda shop do the first maintenance on both of my PCX150's so it would show on the warranty card just in case there were any problems in the future. The shop charged me $400 for labor because of all of the plastics! OUCH! I've done it myself from that point forward. The procedure isn't that difficult if you have the shop manual and the right tools on hand. It's just tedious to pull all of the plastics to get in there to do the job. The seat, center cover, side panels, and the trunk tray need to come out before you can access the engine head. There are lots of small plastic tabs that are easy to break on those panels, so it's a bit nerve wracking the first couple of times. It's not so bad after you've been in there a couple of times, but it's still time consuming. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

@KingTerik The best approach is to follow the manufacturer's maintenance schedule for the first few intervals and then use your judgment about stretching or contracting those intervals based on your particular engine and usage history. The obvious signs of valves being out of adjustment can be excessive ticking at engine start-up (cold start), louder than normal valve noises at idle, backfiring, or when the engine is hard to start (spins over a long time before firing). The not-so-obvious signs are usually worsening fuel economy and slightly higher emissions. The valves will become tighter over time as the valve seats in the head wear down, which allows the valve stem to ride higher/closer to the rocker arms. This eventually prevents the valves from sealing completely, which allows loss of cylinder compression and lower engine efficiency. Hot gasses escaping past the exhaust valve during the power stroke can burn the valves, valve seats, and other engine components... eventually leading to premature engine failure. The traditional logic is that "loose valves are happy valves," meaning that they are fully closed and don't allow compression loss. However, excessive slack can also cause problems such as lower engine performace due to less valve lift and volumetric efficiency (can't move as much air through the cylinder), rocker arm and/or valve stem damage, etc... but those scenarios are much less common than tight/burned valves. Thanks for the feedback! This video was recorded on my trusty old GoPro Hero 7 Black camera. I process all of my video with Adobe Premiere Pro. I do minor color correction and audio processing (e.g., volume normalization and noise reduction), but most of the picture quality is straight from the cameras. I record group conversations with a dedicated audio recorder and an extra Cardo PackTalk communicator. I used the Hero 7 cameras for several years, but I have recently upgraded to the Hero 11. The 11 has better image quality, video stabilization, and low-light performance, but it's significantly larger and more cumbersome on the helmet than the older, smaller Hero 7. I might switch back to the Hero 7 at times when I need a smaller footprint. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

Big guy here too. 250 pounds, 5’9. Had a 2016 PCX a few years ago. So, would you go for a 2022 ADV or a 2021 PCX (which has the 160cc)? Of course, they are both hard to find.

I haven't ridden the new PCX160 yet, so I can't say for sure which would be the "better" scoot. With your height and weight, I think the ADV150 would be a more comfortable scoot overall compared to the older 2016 PCX150. I've heard that the newer PCX150 and 160 have revised rear suspension, so that might help, but the additional suspension travel on the ADV150 is hard to beat. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

my silverwing windshield is about 2 inch's to short. but the only one i can find is 4 inch taller. the last one i got it cost me as much to hae it cut as it did for the windshield. but its worth it and now that i dont have to sell it to build my house i may order it soon. and still looking for a trail 125.

Howdy! I am running with the Garmin Zumo XT on this trip: amzn.to/3Oai7Ba . The Zumo XT's screen is very bright and legible in full daylight, so I never have any problems reading it at a glance. The displays on previous Zumo's (e.g., 350, 396, etc) are a bit weak in direct sunlight, so I try to angle them downward or use a glare shield (extended hood over the top of the GPS, secured by Velcro). Most smartphone screens suffer similar problems in direct sunlight, so they can be nearly unusable in some cases. If you already have a dedicated GPS unit for car or motorcycle, then you can search Amazon for "GPS sun shade" to find options that will fit your unit based on the size of the display. I've made several sun shades out of black coroplast (corrugated sign board plastic). I cut a large enough rectangular sheet, bent it into a U shape, and secured it to the GPS with strips of Scotch Extreme or 3M dual-lock fastening tape (similar to Velcro, but hard plastic on both sides). I secured one side of the Scotch or 3M tape to the GPS with hot glue and stapled the other side of the tape to the coroplast sheet. It's removable, but not unless you really want it to come off. Honda maintenance schedule for the ADV150 (and PCX150) specifies oil changes every 4K miles, and the final drive every 2 years (no mileage specified) on pages 63-64 of the owner's manual ( cdn.powersports.honda.com/documentum/MWOM/ml.remawmom.22_adv150a__kowa__owner_s_manual.pdf ). I think those are highly optimistic figures, so I don't stretch the oil life that far. These engines only hold about 1 quart of oil, and they don't have oil filters, so that's a LOT of abuse for a small quantity of oil to endure. Oil is cheap, engines aren't. I always try to change the engine oil on these small scooters and motorcycles every 2000-2500 miles. I've had very good luck with the Pro Honda HP4M (synthetic blend w/ moly) and the HP4S (full synthetic) oils in these engines. I also have magnetic drain bolts in all of my bikes and scoots to help capture abrasive ferrous particulates in the oil. I use the Gold Plug MP-01 in this scooter: amzn.to/3wUITnw The final drive oil seems to be good for 6-8K miles, but it's always quite dirty and has small metallic sparkles in it every time I change it. I typically change the final drive oil every 2-3 oil changes just to prolong the gears and bearings in there. I use the same oil in the final drive case as in the engine, but full-synthetic is probably best due to the high shear forces encountered in the final drive gears. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

Always hate how everyone judges your weight when you get a smaller bike or a scooter and from what I’ve seen a lot of big guys or overweight guys ride this thing and are happy like me at 220( hopefully will change to go faster quicker and easier) so if we are happy and it can hold our weight pretty good which seems to then that’s all that matters! I used to have a pcx 125 and loved it but man this adv is different for sure👍

The AirHawk Cruiser Large seat cushion fits well on the PCX150/ADV150: amzn.to/3wlCr9a . I have a couple of these that I swap around to different bikes as needed. Thanks for the feedback! I've had relatively good luck with Dr.Pulley sliders and performance variators in my scooters. If you need minor acceleration and top speed increases, then the Dr.Pulley sliders are a great upgrade for under $35. You can find lots of good advice on the PCX Forum here: www.hondapcx.org/ The stock PCX mirrors work well for me, but you can add a set of mirror wideners/extentions to give better rearward visibility: amzn.to/3vb8RVE . The GoCruise throttle lock ( amzn.to/3I7hbtt ) is a great upgrade for any longer rides, and it's cheap! If you need a top case, then I highly recommend the SHAD cases and mounting systems. The SH34 ( amzn.to/3h1am0y ) and SH39 ( amzn.to/3H2ZZE8 ) both fit very well on the PCX150, and the mounting plate ( www.shadusa.com/products/pcx-125-10-21-top-mount?variant=32428342018090 ) looks like an OEM fit. Hi, i have a 2013 pcx150, i bought dr. Pulley sliders 19gram thinking they'd give me too speed but no dice. I went back to stock, top speed is 55, 57 on flat. Can you please let me know the part number of name or specs of your variator and sliders?. I have a malossi bell and clutch which is great no more shudder but I just want more top end on my machine. Thank you.

Yes, Kevin adjusted his windscreen before the ride to the highest position, and I showed the two positions during my initial review video here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/rI521tevj9vTn5c.html . The problem for us is that the OEM windscreen is very small and doesn't offer much wind protection at higher speeds or for longer highway trips. He upgraded his screen to an aftermarket unit that is a bit taller and suits him better. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

I'm so glad you guys decided to take the backroads. I was watching and skipped ahead as watching a road trip on the freeway is the most boring riding to watch (and do) in the world. When scooting, it's all about the journey not the destination.

Agreed! I absolutely hate taking the super slab anywhere unless I really NEED to get somewhere quickly. The back roads and rural highways are much more enjoyable, and they are definitely safer for smaller bikes to travel... generally lower speeds and fewer homicidal cagers to contend with. I installed the Dr.Pulley performance variator kit in this scooter about 3 years ago. The kit consisted of a new variator (different ramp profile) and 20x15mm 13g slider weights. Unfortunately, I've had problems with those sliders cocking sideways in the variator ramps, so I recently changed to 21x15mm 14g sliders ( vidpe here kzread.info/dash/bejne/nHqmmJOHXZWzn5s.html ). These 21mm sliders seem to be more stable, but they are a bit too heavy and tall. I think 12-13g sliders will offer better acceleration. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

I don't have the exact same scooter, but I'm trying to get an idea of what the different variators and weight offsets might do for me with my scoot. I am replacing the rollers with OEM for now, but I'm interested in sliders. Did you notice any better or worse fuel economy with the Dr. Pulley variator at midrange speeds (35-50mph)? Thanks so much!

Ouch, that sucks! I don't know how difficult that process might be. The factory service manual has a detailed procedure for the emergency unlock routine. It may also give details on reprogramming new remotes without replacing components... I'm not sure, though. Good luck with that recovery process! Hello, Virginia! I haven't examined the route in detail for the 2023 SCBR to know the conditions of the roads (or lack thereof), but I would say that the ADV150 should be a superb Cannonball scoot. We had several of them compete in the 2021 SCBR, and all of them finished (to my knowledge). The new PCX160 should also be a very good machine for the SCBR because it reportedly has a top speed in the 81-83 MPH range without any modifications. The new 4-valve engine in the PCX160 gives a nice bump in performance and efficiency over the older 2-valve design in the PCX150 and ADV150. I'm really hoping that Honda brings the new ADV350 to the USA, but that would certainly be out of the running for the SCBR because of the engine displacement. The most competetive scoot in 2021 was the Yamaha SMAX 155 because of its displacement and year handicaps; I'm not sure how the scoring for the 2023 SCBR will change in those respects. There will be new scooter "classes" introduced in 2023 for vintage and other performance groupings. I assume that the overall scoring will be adjusted to reflect class winners instead of an overall winner, but that's just an assumption. Cheers, and happy shopping... I will see you in 2023 cannonball. I am looking at the both 2022 Honda PCX 160 and the 2022 Honda ADV 150 questions if I get the PCX you mentioned you upgrading the suspension and the Variator? And what brand do you recommend? I found a 2018 PCX with 70 miles on it but I can’t find the difference between the 2018 - 2022. Not sure on this. Is there a big difference in speed between the PCX and ADV. I do like the Honda ADV 150 with the fatter tires lol Besides a taller windshield is there anything else you would recommend on upgrades on the ADV 150? I just want to say thank you for your advice and videos:) you are amazing

Howdy, Simon, and congrats on your new Forza 350! We use the Cardo PackTalk EDGE communicators on our rides. I have an extra EDGE joined into the mesh, and it's connected to a dedicated audio recorder to capture the group comm's.
