This is a solid single. Not blowing the doors off the room, but not bad in any way. A perfect example of first single leading to a new album, something good that gets you interested for what else they've got coming

I really feel like anything that would truly blow my mind probably wouldn't feel like Metallica. They created such a sound that has been interated on and mixed, and so many iconic riffs that I don't think I can be wowed in the same way if I compare them to my newer favorite bands. I think they could do more but it just wouldn't feel like them if they modern the style and type of riffs they play.

Ok boomer 😉. Only joking, I don't have any hate for Metallica, they used to be one of my favourite bands, but to suggest this basic motorhead rip-off blues pentatonic hard rock tune with a horribly sloppy solo is better than a lot of modern metal is pretty ignorant. Hell even their contemporaries like Megadeth, Testament and Flotsam & Jetsam have released albums in recent years that are way more creative musically and lyrically, better played, better produced and easily capable of competing with the new generation of thrash metal bands.

When I heard this new song I said to a friend of mine that it's like they have gone back in time to just before Kill Em All, when they were basically copying Motorhead and Diamond Head. For me, what kills the 'old school' vibe is the lyrics. Ever since the black album their lyrics just don't interest me anymore. It feels like it's all pop lyrics and fluff written for the sole purpose of having something to sing over metal riffs. The instrumentation is solid, and feels more Megadeth-y (which makes sense if it reminds you of Kill 'Em All) than I would have predicted, but the lyrics just seem so shallow.

Your comment on the solo is spot on. A French youtube guitar player (Florent Garcia) did a video on the solo with exactly the same comment : it's a "traditional" Hammett solo, that fit very well with the all "neo-traditional" direction the song clearly take. It's not the most technical (but still not "easy" and long enough for a 3 min song) and a bit dirty but...that's what Metallica solo are. This is THE Metallica sounds. You hear that solo outside of any context and people would go "Oh is that Metallica?"

I got goosebumps like crazy on the beginning segment and you came in at the perfect time, and your reaction was mine almost to a tee. I think I qualify as a Metallica fan since before Kill 'em all, that I sense something different, new and improved, and it had to, music evolves with us because we make it and you can already tell by the incredible riffs there, that they have changed like we all do but the music is like a fine wine now so I think they will write some good stuff for a while and what I hear so far is refreshing. I dig it and will crank it fully in a few here.... I actually bought the Metal Blade compilation Metal Massacre because thats how I got allot of underground metal in the early 80's is a record full of a bunch of bands, we didn't have youtube yet...lol. I never heard of any of the bands before on it so it was new, and I remember sitting in my buddy Doug's room and we put it on the record player and when Metallica's Hit the lights came on, we had just finished smoking some killer yellow afghani bud so we had a good buzz and I specifically remember like it was yesterday listening deeply to it and Doug was just staring at the floor and I was standing up to the left of him and I said "This band is going to be huge!" and he looked up with that almost saggy faced stoned emotionless look and just shook his head yes real slow in total agreement and the look he gave me was so funny i busted out laughing and said, "are you stoned" and he stood and said "fuck yeah, I gotta some fresh air" and we laughed ans went outside and agreed it kicked our asses!

When I first heard this tune the other night I was kinda torn, as far as my initial impression. Now a couple days have gone by and I have found myself repeatedly going back to listen to it, over and over. The chorus where James screams the song title is everything in this track. That and the kick drums. But just the way James climbs the ladder vocally to belt out the chorus is such an amazing hook. This almost feels like a sorta power metal almost-but-not-quite Dokken-type vibe meets British new wave meets sped-up Load riffage meets a more polished version of Hit the Lights. It's gonna be a go-to live song (the lyrics kinda reflect that) and the song's energy and the boys' own energy are undeniable. I can't explain it, but all I know is my ear loves it. I'm very happy Metallica is back with new tunes and I'm also very happy they kept the album under wraps so now it's arriving soon - to MY mind - rather than them announcing it 2 years out and then us playing the waiting game. These old dogs can still hunt.

You nailed everything on the head with the reaction. It is a solid track that I went into it with no expectations. Im 43 and I started listening to them at age 10...in 1989. Ive had my Metallica years where they were my musical heroes. As time went on, I grew out of their sound and went my own way. I kept up with them for the most part. Anyway...this is a solid offering by them. Lars sounded good, James sounded as good, if not better than he has for years. Rob, well....he's Rob and always sounds tight AF. Great bass player. Kirk and that solo...it fit the song. It sounded simplistic, but the song was too..IMO. Overall, a straight forward song that has replayability. 8/10

I think the whole beef about the solo is how people say Kirk isn't as good as he used to be, i personally like it and i don't think Kirk lost his ability to play or anything, it may not be the same level he was on earlier but then...its been 40 years, they are 60 years old and they evolve as people over time and so does their music with them.

I "Parental advisory" love this track too. Some folks want a track to be over complicated before they call it a great track. For me it's simplicity and speed is it's strength. Great reaction dude! This is my first time coming across your channel, subbing right now. Thumbs skyward man 👍👍👍☮☮☮

I want to listen that in my car!!!! It is a good song and typical for Metallica. Not every song has to be the hardest ever seen.... a unique sound and different styles are important and exciting. Your reaction and comments on the song are great.

No other bands evoke such a range of emotion and opinion like Metallica. I love Metallica. I have listened to this band since I was 14. I’m days away from being 39…so, 25 years. I’m just happy they’re still making music. I like the song. I’ll be buying the album. I won’t ever hate this band.

Listened to it a few times now, and it's soild. it's not the best it's not the worst. And something you didn't mention, it's refreshing. With how insane metal is getting having a soild "dad" rock/metal song is honestly super nice to hear.

I wouldn’t be surprised if that is James’ old Electra. It sounds the same as it did during Ride and Kill Em All. This is a good song to jam to when you’re doing chores or gaming. I’m excited for the new album My personal favorite tracks off LOAD and RELOAD are 2x4/King Nothing and Fixxer respectivley
