Why does nobody ever mention the fact that before the fall of socialism you were basically given a job and a place to live based on economic needs, you werent allowed to live in a city of your choosing. If you werent born in Sofia but want citizenship there you either had to have a skill thats highly in demand in the capital or work in a mine, the steel factory or some other tough job FOR 5 YEARS if you wanted Sofia citizenship.

This is not true. Look Vidin in youtube. Vidin is beautufull city. But those poor houses u may find everywhere

My dad is from vidin, the neighborhood he grew up in wasn’t very nice, but I remember the city as a beautiful port town

Can you discuss foreign direct investment in the area? For example, what are the rules surrounding ownership/ property rights? Why isn't Bulgaria attracting capital?

Bulgaria is full of German investments, and nicer places than in West Europe. They are filming just the poor and nasty parts .
