Gavin Adin's 336.5kg (742lb) world record squat attempt was overturned by the jury at the 2023 Sheffield Powerlifting Championships - a decision booed by an audience of thousands. Adin is no stranger to such adversity, and faced similar trials at IPF Worlds, again losing a squat to a jury decision.
Yet despite such setbacks, Adin secured a podium spot at Sheffield 2023 and ended the year with one of the strongest totals in the IPF. Ultimately this led to a wildcard invitation for Sheffield 2024 that he found himself conflicted by.
Now the American looks to prove to himself and others what his potential in the sport is - and Sheffield will provide another opportunity to do so.
