Road Cycling is Boring

Спорт

So much fun descending from Saddle Peak. I take a detour into unfamiliar territory on the super steep and sandy lanes of Topanga. Never a dull moment blasting a road bike around here!

I've crashed doing what he's doing; I took a turn too aggressively and the back tire lost grip. Tore off the top layers of skin on my right arm and upper back. I also slid across the rode, but was fortunate no cars were coming. I suffered another crash on a descent, hit a guard rail and almost cut off my finger. If you keep doing this stuff, it's only a matter of time before the worst happens.

I don't obey every single traffic law while riding, but you gotta have some common sense too. I guess people have the right to kill themselves if they want to, but one must also consider the unnecessary burden on healthcare, the trauma for other people, the potential danger you can cause if they try to swerve out of the way and hit something. Lots of the arguments here got caught up in "this is why motorists hate cyclists" but that's not even the real issue, it's about having some common decency for the sake of society, whether you get credit for it or not. Again, speed a little, go through a few clear junctions, no big deal. But be reasonable

Absolute head case, and this is coming from a cyclist. We all like downhill, when it is safe to do so of course. Flying down narrow streets, wrong side of road around blind corners, past parked cars and pedestrians is just reckless. That fall should be a warning to you next time it might be a truck coming the other way. You give cyclists a bad reputation, you should be expecting the unexpected on your descent.

Really? The "you give cyclists a bad name" lecture? The guy is a skilled and experienced cyclist and his driving is a lot less reckless than it appears to be. A cyclist would surely recognize it. Aggressive? Maybe. Fast? For sure. Risky? Yes. But he knows what he's doing. It takes skill to ride like this and it's a joy to watch. Ride and let ride.
