Haha! Yup, nice creamy and thick Compressor. A very nice trait by Neve. Glad Stam was able to replicate that trait. Looking forward to MK2.

Hi man! Great review thanks for sharing! I have the unit as well. have a quick q; I experience some volume drop when switched the compressor on. Do you have that?

Hi Barbaros, oh man, that’s not cool. First, make sure the IEC Cable is properly fastened. I found in this unit that there is almost a locking stage in the unit. So press firmly and make sure the cable “pops” of “locks” into the unit’s socket. Second, are you in stereo mode? If so, make sure all your knobs in Channel 2 are turned all the way to the right except for your gain knob. If all of that doesn’t work, contact Stam. Hope it helps, let me know.

Great! How does one use the Limiter section?

Hi Louise, keep in mind, Limiter comes first in the chain, so if you’d like to use the limiter, set those setting first before fiddling with the compressor. To set your limiter, engage the “limit in” switch by pressing down. Move down your “threshold” knob until you hear limiting or you see your needle move. Set your “attack” speed and your “recovery” (release) speed to taste. Once that is done, move on to compress if you wish.

@@reddmusiclab : Great. Thank you. Really enjoy your videos. I also noticed you have used the Stam Audio SSL VCA style comp on this same track in another video. How would you compare the two compressors? Initially my feeling is that SA-609 suits this song a lot more. Why would one choose the SA-609 style ( diode bridge ) over the SSL style comps ? Its my feeling that VCA might be better for 'punch' and 'clarity'.... but diode bridge can bring 'warmth', 'sheen' and 'character'.

Thank you Louise, that’s very kind of you. Quite frankly, I have not sat down to listen closely and pick which compressor fits this song the best but your insight and perspective is definitely what I intended to produce out of you the viewer by using the same song. One of my goals for my channel was to standardize the reviews as much as possible so the viewer can reference different types of gears without having to factor the difference in song. Thanks for watching! Much more to come.

cool song, cymbals sound too loud though. it distracts from the groove, I'd lower the overheads a tad and smooth them out a touch 👍

Dooley noted! This is the raw mix which is a good reference for “top down” mixing and getting an idea how studio hardware will react to such a mix. I do plan on doing a full on mix so I can also demonstrated in that format. But like Stam Audio, I’m backed up on work and need more time LOL! 🤣
