RM Sotheby's-The Most Valuable Car in the World
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
In the most remarkable car auction ever conducted, RM Sotheby’s in association with Mercedes-Benz has sold one of the two famed 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupés to a private collector for €135,000,000, and will donate the proceeds to establish a worldwide “Mercedes-Benz Fund” that will provide long-term educational and research scholarships in the areas of environmental science and decarbonisation for young people. The selling price makes it the most valuable car in the world and within the top 10 most valuable items ever sold at auction.

A true work of art. I hope that its owner can show the car to the public and the rest of us mortals can enjoy it.

That´s a new level, a new record, a new dimension and real history for a car. The Ferrari 250GTO sold for $70 Million on a privat sell. The MB 300slr doubles the price.
So pleased that it will be on exhibition for the next several years, absolute beauty
The sound of that straight 8.....
The car is staying at the MB Museum. It needs specialist care to look after it, and even start it! (I watched them do it, and it's a polava!). Although it will be going on tour to select places around the world (such as Pebble Beach Concourse D'Elegance and MB World Brooklands) so that many enthusiasts get to see it.

It makes you wonder what Sir Stirling Moss' 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Roadster that he set the all time record at Mille Miglia in would sell for?
@WeeShoeyDugless
10 ай бұрын
It was 'just' the 300SLR roadster, was never called 'the Uhlenhaut'. But yes, Moss' car would probably double that price AND...... THEE Uhlenhaut 300SLR coupe which the great man himself used as a daily driver during testing would be stratospheric in price. IT is the most valuable car in the world and will never be sold by the factory.
The head of mercedes classic said in a video, they would never sell a uhlenhaut coupe even though they received multiple offers worth more than 100m each. Im still wonder why they now gave it into auction….

a tragedy - trying to avoid a jag C Type entering the pit, the SLR careened off a slow Healey in front of it, which catapulted the Mercedes into the stands and wiped out everything in its path, engine tyres went flying through the packed crowd - unimaginable…. and they kept racing too - the Jag I think won - what a fiasco on so many levels - completely changed auto racing, which was a good thing - but like you said 83 tragically, violently died - there’s even film of it

@@gregarnold8954 I have been led to believe that the organizers kept the race going so as not to clog the roads with departing spectators, which would have made it very difficult, or even impossible, for the emergency services to do their jobs. Daimler-Benz pulled the team out of the race in the early hours of the morning when the Fangio / Moss car was two laps in the lead.
It is been a market thing ... a cunning strategy.

There are people who make fun of graffiti scrawls and white canvases selling for $100M, there are occasional high profile art forgeries, and there are unethical market manipulation tactics like getting buyers to buy one artwork and donate another to a museum to raise an artist's profile. But overall the art and classic car markets are just another case of supply and demand. With the obscene increase in the amount of the world's wealth cornered by the ultra-rich, the latter keeps going up. Tax wealth!
