    This is an amazing keyboard. I buy one black and it's my favorite Keyboard. I change the keycaps from PBT Pudim Black (Hyperex) and a custom spacebar. Mod with foam and tape and Lube my Akko Rose Red Switches and they are 1110% stunning! I have a K2V2 with Yellow Gateron and they don't come in feet from my RK84. Including Bluetooth connection and stable quality in my Linux Fedora. In the Software, I change the functions PageDown to Delete and PageUp to Home and change the caps and totally amazing Keyboard. In my opinion, better them K2 V2 at really. Your video is great! Thanks to share.

    The red stock switches are by far the worse switches I've had the displeasure to ever type on, when pressing off center especially applying force towards the south, you can even feel a tactile bump lmao they kind of get stuck when going up, same feeling i get from semi mechanical keyboards lmao.. Keycaps are pretty low quality, very uneven shine to them and with lots of barbs on the north side of the keycaps. Battery is strong, my 2.4ghz works pretty well. Can't even make the app work, i install it and when i open nothing happens.

    I agree about the switches, mine came with RK browns, and they were... sub-par. I didn't have any specific problems, but they weren't enjoyable. Also agree with the keycap comment, they had a lot of those molding sprues, a real danger to desk mats! Weird about the software though, i didn't have any issues. Was this pretty recently? @@galacticbios9052 no worries man, your content is good, perhaps more frequent uploads on switches/keycaps and mechanical keyboards that are affordable. That way you can cater to the large majority of those just starting this hobby. Yes, you can set custom lighting, there are 3 "Custom Light" slots. You can only set per-key light color, though, not per key effect. So, for example, you could set your WASD and 1-0 to say, blue, then the others to green, and your directional arrows to red, but you couldn't have different brightness or different effects going on them, just static lights.

    I'll test right now! Ok, so the passthrough DOES work for a mouse, but the passthrough usb ports are only usable when the keyboard is plugged in with usb-c cable. So, you can't use the keyboard wirelessly and plug a mouse into it to make the mouse wireless, sadly. A cool thing is if the keyboard is plugged in, you could use a wireless mouse dongle, like a logitech unifying receiver! (I tested a wired and wireless mouse, both work, but again, only if the keyboard is plugged in.

    Nice review! I've got two questions: 1 - If I remap keys in the software, does it stay remapped even if I use the keyboard on another PC without the software installed? In other words, does it write to onboard memory? 2 - can I change the keys on the Fn layer? Or add custom layers?

  • @galacticbios9052

    @galacticbios9052

    2 жыл бұрын

    Yes and no 1- Yes, it stays remapped even when unplugged, so there is an onboard memory. There are 3 "profiles" where you can remap the default layer (and you can add more), but they can only be switched when plugged in. So, lets say you remap the right column to your preferred layout in profile 1, you can unplug and switch to bluetooth or the wireless dongle and they will stay remapped. Then if you have a sperate profile2 where you remapped your function row to macros or something, , you can only switch profiles through the software (as far as i can tell, there's no hotkey or anything in the manual or online about switching the profiles on the fly). The software isn't amazing, but you can remap everything except the function key, i think. To remap a key, left click and then select the new mapping from the bottom (which has the standard 108 key options). Then if you right click, there's a 3 options when you select a key, "Default Function" (which reverts to it's normal mapping) "Disable the Key" (which does as advertised), and "custom function" where you can select some slightly more advanced stuff like "Key combinations" "Macro" "Multimedia" and "Windows shortcuts". Unfortunately, the key combinations are only Shift, CTRL, ALT and WIN combos, no function combos, and no other layer options. sooooo 2- No, you cannot change the Fn layer or add custom layers, tragically. This really limits your options, especially if you're used to QMK/VIA type configuration, but that's all it's got!

    @@galacticbios9052 thank you! That's very helpful to know. I pulled the trigger and bought one yesterday with the 11/11 discounts in Aliexpress, together with some components to mod it. Are you trying to connect with the keyboard plugged in or over bluetooth? I think the flashing light on the space bar means the battery is low (If it's solid red, then I'm not sure what that means.) You can only connect the software when it's plugged into the computer directly, so also I guess make sure you're plugged into the computer directly, not through a USB- hub or anything like that. If that doesn't help, then try sending RK tech support a message at rkgamingstore.com/pages/contact-us . They were pretty great and helped me when my RK84 came without a wireless dongle.

  • @galacticbios9052

    @galacticbios9052

    I know that the "P" key was used in binding the 2.4ghz dongle, and "q" is bluetooth device 1, i wonder if it's somehow stuck in some pairing mode. Try doing a factory reset (FN+Space for 3 seconds) and / or try updating the firmware with their software ( available at rkgamingstore.com/pages/software)

    Not that I know of, but I'd recommend getting the software from rkgamingstore.com/pages/software and upgrading your firmware, which should reset any lock. Also, the software will let you change the FN key, so that may help. If those don't work, send their support an email!

    What would you say is better the rk84 or the keychrin k2

  • @galacticbios9052

    @galacticbios9052

    2 жыл бұрын

    I would personally prefer the RK84, for a few specific reasons. 1) Software customization- you can do some customization to the layout and lighting that is persistent. 2) Rear USB-C port / USB pass through - the RK84 has a read port and the K2 is on the left. Granted, you may be only using this wirelessly, and so this might not affect your choice. 3) Wireless dongle - RK84 has a 2.4ghz dongle, if your device's bluetooth isn't working or whatever, it's nice to have options. 4) Front height - I prefer the way the RK84 looks from the side. Granted, i'd prefer to have them side by side to make a comparison, this is an opinion from the pictures of the K2 only. Reasons you may prefer the K2 - 1) Dedicated MAC compatibility - awesome if you're a mac user and want an easy option for compatibility. 2) Optional aluminum frame/bezel - Keychron does have the optional frame, which looks decent and improves the feel of the keyboard in the hand. There is a recently released RK84 Pro with an aluminum case as a counter-point, but I haven't tested that one, so i can't speak for it. 3) Battery - at 4000mah, the K2 has a largery battery (compared to the 3750 mAh battery in the RK84). On paper, this means it should last longer (listed as 240 hrs vs 200), so this should definitely be in the K2's favor. Overall, it all comes down to the almighty preference, I would say they are pretty comparable, even though if I had to choose, I would pick the RK84.

  • @galacticbios9052

    @galacticbios9052

    3 жыл бұрын

    Yeah, it totally does! I tend to not use much backlight, but it looks like the "White" is just all 3 colors, and it looks like the red is winning out a little. If you use the software and customize the RGB, pull the "RED" value down to 175-200 or so, the software color will show as a light blue, but the visible backlight on the keyboard will look more "White". I still had a few LEDs that looked slightly pink, but overall it was a little better.

    You're totally correct, I agree 100%. I like this keyboard MUCH better than any razer or logitech board. The comparison was specifically for the RGB, which is (i would consider) a weak point on the RK84, and a strong point for razer. The point I was unsuccessful in making is that if you purchase a keyboard for half the price of a big brand keyboard, there will be some things you will be missing. Hope that helps clear up why i was trying to set expectations a little lower in the RGB department!
