River Steelhead - bottom bouncing for Chrome

We're running a bottom-bounce T-Turn set up with roe bags and bouncing for steelhead in the Niagara River. It's early February, and it's safe to say that the water is very very cold and that the chrome bite is on!

    One of my favorite things about Ivo is his humility. there is so much snobbery/arrogance in the fishing world and Ivo just doesn’t participate! Just an old school italian guy who loves to fish 🤙🔥

    Longer leaders get more bites in the clarity the rivers had lately I run 7 to 10 ft 4 to 6 pound leaders 8 when its murkier.

    Hi Ivo, thanks for the great videos. You've given me so much info about how to fish as a boatless angler. If you can, talk to me about the waders you're running. If you don't want to get into specific brands, I get it. How about the boot bottom and the amount of insulation in them. Thanks again for the most informative channel I've come across.

    does anyone know where you can buy minnows around here? (st catharines/niagara area) I know pete's gets them once in a while but they've never had them anytime Ive gone. They make those things so hard to track down you feel like your trying to buy something illegal.

    Hi evo I have been fishing for steelhead in my river I know they are there cuz they are jumping and migrating up but I am not getting any bites or that I can tell and I’m doing 2 split shot a foot up the line then a size 4 hook to a roe bag and 12 lb mono spider wire line …. I have tryed worms and single eggs on the same rig and have gone 10 trips no fish I have never been so skunked …. Any advice my friend ? Maybe the line is to slack and I’m not feeling the bites ? Or the cold is shutting the bite down …. If fishing was about catching fish I would have quit already 😂 I love your videos

    sounds like you may not be on the bottom? you must bottom bounce along the bottom (unless of course, you are using a bobber/float). I would suggest scaling down to 10 lb mono and using a typical bottom bounce rig - here is one example - good luck!! kzread.info/dash/bejne/fY6Yt8iMYKbWp9o.htmlsi=7h0ORP5qwIMAiGZj

    @@PinkBlondeBarbiexo ....for steelhead, I like to use the small size because I am using light line, 10 lb test or lower. If you are going to use 6 lb test line and really want to finesse, then use the extra small size, they are tiny :) The medium size if good as well, but it is a bit bigger, so of you plan on using heavier line, then go for medium size :)

  • @thundermistlures

    @thundermistlures

    yes, but remember, do not set the hook when using a circle hook, just start reeling in and the hook will set itself. I like to use larger hooks though, but most people like smaller hooks :)

    @@thundermistlures thank you! I know they make hooks for salmon/steelhead, but those require you to set the hook, and to do that you have to feel the initial bite. My theory is, since I'm a novice in my family, is to not have to feel the bite itself, but the weight of the fish after, and not have to worry about how hard you set the hook. Thanks again!

    Ivo I love the concept of the t-turn, but I can’t quite seem to be able to rig it right. I tried bottom bouncing last time I went steelhead fishing with it and every time my rig would come in tangled! Can you help me?

  • @thundermistlures

    @thundermistlures

    4 жыл бұрын

    sounds like it is getting hung up on the reel in, but rest assured, while it is out there fishing, it will be tangle free....however, make sure your tag ends are cut close to the t-turn, so the line won't be able to catch and thus swivel freely

    @Thundermist Lures I would love to know where you park/fish on shore in the river. I've tried about 5 locations this year and have such a hard time with loosing gear and tackle. I almost have given up trying just because it becomes too time consuming re-rigging and replacing so many hooks, sinkers and t-turns. Unless you are as well but just not showing it on camera.

    Not a FIB Surveillance Van - He didn’t work hard to find that spot, didn’t work at all, a seagull. Showed up one day when he seen people catching fish. 25 years ago nobody came there, we kept it clean, there was much more bank. Now, never been so busy, and the bank has eroded away leaving even less room.

    I feel a lot ppl use small hooks in hopes of gut hooking to make sure they get the fish in. These fish are not small so there is no reason to use small hooks.
