River Pike are Built Different!
Ойын-сауық
With the temperatures dropping its time to start turning my attentions towards big pike! In this video I hit the river after some heavy rainfall. I was targeting the slacks using jerkbaits and swimbaits and had some fantastic tail walking action!

I finally caught a small pike with my bfs rod and reel. I bought a Dark Wolf Ultra. You wouldn't believe how many casts it took me, I'm chuffed to bits. It's all down to you 😊
Great video Chris. Hope you and your family are ok after the bad floods. Stay safe. Best wishes.
Beautiful slow mo on that pike jumping excellent work
Great looking fish. Really like your vids. Especially the huge 24 in brown from that urban trench. Great stuff. Looking forward to more of those😊

That first one, nice take. I fished a creek the same size as a kid that went through my uncles farm. I'm having flashbacks of throwing a 50ct spoon and my heart pounding.
Great pikes, and you didn’t even forget your net 😉
Another brilliant video again chris, just another idea which you probably arent into, but would be great seeing you tackle some gravel pits, say unknown ones or not fished apart from your forgotten ponds that is:) much appreciated as always...Also chris be good to see you trying the oldskool method sink & draw with sprats one time to see if you can do aswell:)
Great vid 👍

Hope You took some Dead Baits with You loaded with Oils (They seen to like the Strawberry) and throw them Into the swim You had the Last Big one from, To get the Big Girl active. She won't chase a Lure at this time of Year. Keep them going In every time You go there. Then In The Freeze, go get Her on the bank. I only had a 24lber today, and a ton of little ones to Ten Pound. Keep 'Em Coming.
Love pike fishing. That’s all I target in the winter her in southern Canada. Such an underrated fish and good eating if you know what you are doing. I have some pretty insane pike fishing around where I live. If I I drive less then an an hour West North or East I have a chance at a master pike every time. I’m on 5 winters in a row with a pike over 17Ibs

I actually live just over the road from the river. I know a lot of people were evacuated down our street, but thankfully it didn't reach us. Its going to take a long time for the river to recover. I bet it lost a lot of big perch and pike to the fields

I'm wondering if the paternoster rig is good for deadbaiting for pike to allow for more sensitive bite indication or will the pike hesitate when it picks up the weight at the bottom?

Pike are a coarse fish traditional in the UK. They are rarely eaten these days.
Are you crushing your barbs these days? Been thinking of doing it recently just for quick unhooking
The river I fish on is super fast flowing at the moment with very little slack but big double figure pikes do you have any tips for fishing areas like this?
Your videos are by a country mile the best on KZread. Surely there must be a gap in the market for yourself to have a your own tv program. I got a few folk to subscribe to you and they all think the same. The fishing tv programs these days are terrible. Hope it happens for you 👌

What are the big predatory fish of Europe aside from the pike? I know of the Zander and the wels as well. Is there a fish that occupies the same niche as the largemouth here in the US?

Yo Ginge, me and my brother are going to your canal chub spot and a few other locations you've never disclosed tomorrow, any chance you'll be out having a flick? Id love to get some swim tips and a picture?
Where do aye buy that rod mate ?
Since you catch and release, why do you use barbed treble hooks? Single barbless work really well and are much easier on the fish.

Hi Chris, great video. I have a question about traces. I see you have nylon? not wire. What do you use? Dave
@The_ginger_fisherman

I believe its 80lb suffix flurocarbon I'm currently using. Never had an issue
How long do you stick with one lure, not catching, before you switch to something different?
@The_ginger_fisherman
9 ай бұрын
It really depends on the conditions. Sometimes I know what I'm using is the right choice so I just stick with it and other times I might change up every half an hour. Usually it depends on the venue conditions though. For example in shallow weedy areas i might prefer a shallow jerkbait and in deeper areas I'll generally go for a heavier shad etc
A quick question for you,I might have got it wrong but you appear to be using fluorocarbon traces 🤔 personally I would never use fluorocarbon traces for pike,alway use at least 55lb wire trace,I was just wondering why you use fluro and do you get many bite offs ? Cheers and all the best
What fresh water fish do y’all like to catch for dinner?
Main mission: do not lose net - done!
What are the benefits of using a multiplier reel with lures. I've fished for 30 years and never used one or ever felt like I needed to change what I'm using. I have never even looked into it, so I'm curious.

When casting from the side angle (not overhead) you can look at the arch angle and control the distance with minimal thumb pressure to get the perfect cast to the snags and near cover, its a bit harder with a fixed spool... you always need thumb pressure towards the landing spot to avoid the birds nest problem though...
@pvegod1484

not having to open the bail over and over and over all day for me just makes it easier. when you get good with them you can be an absolute sniper, fine adjustment with your thumb

Make sure you have all the right tools for proper unhooking. Also watch some unhooking tutorials online. If you're dead baiting or live baiting for pike make sure to strike early or only use a single treble rig to make unhooking easier.

When you post pike vids, how long have you played the pike, I know you must edit the fight, just curious?

@@paulstares48 let me rephrase the question. How long might it take to land a 10lb or 20lb pike?
@paulstares48
9 ай бұрын
@alfredshearing6793 it depends on a couple of things like water temperature and the condition of the fish. ( a female could be full of eggs near spawning time.) The fish should lay on its side when it's ready to be netted. I only fish deadbait from October to march as the pike are very aggressive and swallow the bait very quickly and will get deep hooked In summer time and this increases the chances of serious injury or death. Although they look intimidating pike are actually very fragile and need to be handle with care.
Which river is this?

If that's just a fluorocarbon leader tied direct to the lure, which it appears to be ?? then that is totally irresponsible and not something folks should be copying. Even with lures you should 100% be using a wire trace for pike..!!

Please weight your fish, just to get a reference, length means nothing, you could get a fish that weights 10lb cause it skinny, then a same size fish that weights 13lb cause eating well.
