This is wild I had a hunt almost identical to this one this year where it took several arrows to finally harvest the deer. Never what we intend or what we would ever wish for, but it’s the follow up that separates the good hunters from great. The commitment to the animal, the dedication to follow through on the hunt and make right. Happy that you guys got the job done.

It takes dedication when harvesting an animal especially bow hunting, stories like this one happen more often than we want to admit, hunters make bad shots sometimes. I am glad you stuck it out and finally put the deer down. Thanks for sharing!

I just had a similar experience where I made a good broadside shot on a buck, he stumbled and stood there just the same way so I stuffed another one in him, he took off. I had great blood on my 1st arrow and OK on the second. Took me 3 days to find him. That extra shot gave him the adrenaline along with the testosterone levels of rutting buck to get 800 yards. Initial shot was where I had thought it was. Mature bucks are some of the toughest animals alive. I've been contemplating if my 2nd shot was the right thing to do.

Sucks. 3 days later that sucker was probably rancid. I know that if I leave one out overnight more than likely the Coyotes will get them. So amazing how resilient these animals are. Last year I shot a buck at 50 yards with my crossbow. My shot went straight through both shoulders & both lungs. This deer with no front legs working or lungs to breathe ran 200 yards into the thickest mess known to man. I was on my belly going through to track it. When I found him his entire nose face was pouring out & covered with pink frothy blood. Even with the best shot you just never know.

I checked the comments exactly for a comment like yours . I have watched many many videos and it looked like the deer was going down , then they put another arrow in him and its like he never got shot . I wonder if they just wait and see what happens . But then again I was taught that you always get as many arrows in the deer as possible . I'm 62 and disabled , but if I was ever in a position were I got a good shot and it looked like the deer was going down and I could get another shot, I would hold off and see what happens . The deer would have to be really holding on to stand up . I say it now but who knows what I would do .

"Deer" in general are some of the toughest animals I've discovered. One rifle season years ago my dad shot a doe that dropped. Then like half-hour later he shot another. Shortly after it was the end of hours so he got down checked the 2nd one he shot that was closer (dead) went to the 1st one which he discovered alive. He didn't have his gun since it was after hours so he cut its throat. Then drug the 2nd one back home and ate dinner. Went back after dinner for the 1st deer and he just went to grab it. Well, it jumped up and kicked the crap out of him. It then ran for another 200 yards through the woods. Adrenaline is a heckuva thing. A few years ago we also found a dead buck in the cornfield about 2 months after deer season. Not sure where it came from as we'd never seen it on a camera or anything before or when it got there, but when we found it had been there for a while since it was literally just skin and bones. Well upon investigation we saw it was missing one of its front feet that was then covered in a ball of mud from using it to walk. We assume it got shot off during the rifle season, but don't know for sure. None of the neighbors nearby had shot at it so it would have had to have walked for quite some time.

This is what drives all of us to be better hunters. We don't ever want to see an animal suffer. We do it best to make sure everything is in good working order and ready for when the time comes. But sometimes it happens, and when it does, what you did Lee is what everyone needs to do. Go in and do what it takes to find that animal, and if necessary, take an extra shot to seal the deal. We are human, and we make mistakes. But what sets us apart from others is we try not to duplicate our past mistakes, but learn from them. Congrats on a great drop tine buck. Looking forward to more hunts!

Obviously I hope a situation like this never happens, but when it does I would be interested to see you show where the shots ended up hitting and what damage the different shots did to the deer. I think it is good learning experience to examine what actually ended up happening after the fact. I think it would help you as well as viewers learn that much more about the situation.

Read my mind, as much as I watch hunting content for entertainment value, it's what I can glean from the experience that I value most. I feel left hanging when someone doesn't go through each shot, inspect the arrows, talk about what they found when they cleaned the animal, etc. I get it, SeekOne chases the story in a more cinematic way, and do a great job with that; I just wish there was some kind of breakdown. Instead I'm sitting here trying to go frame by frame on youtube and postulating what those first two arrows hit.

Congrats!!!! That is the only way to bow hunt, it doesn't always go perfect. But you never give up, when the animal has been wounded. Great work!!!! God Bless all!!!!👍😉🙏🙏🙏🙏

Great job posting this. I made a bad shot early this bow season. Made me sick. Tracked him for hours then the rain made it impossible. Looked a couple more days with no luck. Made me sick thinking I injured that deer. Thanks again

Nice deer, I am envious of the ability to go from state to state to hunt these deer.

Lee, That first shot looked real good when I first watched it Looked like it broke the opposite shoulder or leg. You put it right in there nice and tight. I figured on the angle it would would have eventually dropped within a few steps, but you made the right call and put another one in him. Great job getting everything on film and keep in pursuing until that buck was down. Congratulations brother.
