Man that top comment made me realize that you really have influenced my life substantially in the 4-5 years! I used to be a big skateboarder and was making some bad decisions with my self, at one point I realized that I had a huge outlet to be able to go fishing, hunting and everything that comes with those things like i’ve been wanting to do since i was very young. I took those opportunities and haven’t been the same since! Thank you for such a great influence on my life as well as teaching me so much about hunting in particular, you’re an amazing man Andrew. Thanks for the video. Gar is something I want to try this year.

A couple tips for next time you cook gar. Instead of cutting the fish open with your knife, use a pair of strong scissors, it’ll be a lot easier and save damaging your knife. Also, to make the meat less tough, scrape the meat off the bone with a spoon and you could make fish cakes with them with the same recipe you would for shrimp or crab cakes. I guarantee making cakes would be 100% better because you’re breaking up the tendons or whatever it is and the seasoning in the cake is adding more flavor. Everyone I always talk to about eating gar says it’s their favorite way to eat it and it’s also mine.
