Very kind of you David, many thanks.
Great and simple video! I do have a question though. At 27.07min determining the severity, in my reasoning I thought that it would be a minor injury. With such a short distance, the pedestrian would be able to yell for the driver to stop and the crate would stay still. Also I assumed the driver would be going slow seeing as he has a load to navigate so it wouldn't take much effort to come to a halt. So in my view I would imagine the pedestrian collides into the forklift and falls down with minor injuries such as some bruising maybe a fracture or two. My definition of a highly severe case would be death, paralyzed, coma, etc. Can you maybe explain the reasoning of your estimate? I would like to successfully apply this knowledge when doing a risk assessment. Thank you for your informative content!

Hi and thanks for your question! This is of course a subjective judgement using a fictitious scenario, but the important aspect is to understand the principles of the decision-making process. If we are thinking in real terms: for the pedestrian to be in this position, we make some assumptions e.g. there has been a failure on part of driver to see (blinded by raised load) and failure to communicate to on part of the pedestrian (making operator aware of their presence), amongst other issues. Putting that aside, we have to assume worst case scenario i.e. That the forklift collides with the pedestrian (above their waist). The loaded forklift will weigh several tonnes (we have to assume a heavy load is being moved) and it would take minimal speed to cause serious physical injury. It would be easy to foresee that any resulting injury from this impact COULD be classed as 'Major'. In our view, it would be highly likely to cause serious injury (broken limb, severe head Injury etc.) Again, when we are assessing the 'potential' risk, we are wanting to identify the worst case scenario for the context (within reason), and in this case there is the certainly the potential for causing serious injury or even death. 👍

Please do Adebayo, there are 1000's that have taken it so far and it seems to be very useful for businesses to internally train staff and allow employees to have more ownership around risk assessing their work.😉👌

Hi there Being a student, how to choose or suppose any industry to start its risk assessment?
@Safeti
Жыл бұрын
Hi Asher. The need for risk assessment, of course, spans across many industries. My honest and simple answer would be to try your best to identify an area that genuinely interests you - but also an industry that really values your help (i.e. there are significant risks to manage). There are some interesting areas that we are currently working in around carbon zero technology, alternative energy and materials recycling that are very intriguing and with promising future opportunities.😉

I can sincerely say there was not intentional. Perhaps the reason it may this way is that the video content was not specifically made for KZread, it was initially made for the online course and then pulled together for this version. Appreciate the candid feedback though and will take note for future content. 👏😉
