I am not against development, but both of these islands have enough “luxury “ condos and homes. All of the islands need affordable housing for local workers to maintain the local economy, also need agriculture to lessen dependence on mainland

why do the big guys let these people come and take what is left. these islands belong to the hawaiian people. these developers have hurt the hawaiian people and keep doing so. enough is enough already. stop this right now!!! who knows, maybe we have to all head to the statebuilding as one with a huge petition and unite as one as we did for mauna kea and kaho'olawe and when we shut down red hill. this isn't just a native hawaiian problem either. these developers affect all that live in hawai'i, more negatively then positively.

Yes, but why do no environmentalists speak up? Where are Hilo Uni professors? This project will deplete water from the Ninole spring. They have so much water on the plan and where is it coming from for 255 units? They are going to use spring water. It belongs to PEOPLE OF HAWAII, not foreign corps. And what about turtles? The beach is already overcrowded, how can you put even more stress on them?

What the H is going on with our islands? The rich, the powerful are taking over our islands. They chase the locals out by pricing and burning us out!you They take the land over our dead bodies as they are doing on Maui. The state government has been replaced with the selected " tools" of the politically connected and powerful. Greed and evil are at work on our land and we must rid ourselves of this disease and stop this takeover!

Doesn't anyone care about the integrity of the culture of Hawaii? The fragile coastline? The beaches and the sea life? Greed seems to be more important. I'm the politicians and others who are in charge of permits have some kind of back room dealings to make the projects a reality. Hawaii's culture is already disappearing into becoming a tropical mainland, crowded, traffic and generic franchises and retail. Hawaii isn't special anymore. Small businesses are getting closed out because landlords raise the rents while mainland businesses take over. Crowded housing and skyscraper apartments are taking over precious land. The traffic is almost worse than the traffic on the mainland and land is limited. Hawaii's infrastructure can't sustain the over building that is going on. The rents will just rise pushing out families that have lived here for generations while jobs are also limited as well as pay. It's not like anyone can easily commute a few hours for better paying jobs like on the mainland and people shouldn't be forced to move because of the rising prices of everything. Especially housing.

Spain faces a similar crisis in Malaga. Many properties are not owned by locals and usually are empty during the year, which means those "owner visitors" don't ADD to the economy much. OR short-term rental is preferred for the tourists. If you build condos that are owned by mainlanders, it won't make a dent in the cost of housing (RENT) for locals. Basic economics my ass.
