Shame on those involved forcing Kamaaina’s to move away! I’m losing my uncle now to Las Vegas because of the high cost of living here. Most of my family moved away to the mainland because of the rising costs and greed in Hawaii.

My parents were forced to sell their house on Oahu decades ago, not because of housing prices, but by rising property taxes! On a retirement budget, property taxes kept rising to a breaking point. Hawaii voters don't realize what they're voting for, or in many cases, what they are not voting for.

We moved to Utah from the Big Island about 6 years ago. Reasons for leaving the islands were: Better schooling for the kids, cheaper living, low crime rate, more opportunities to learn and grow. Able to save money and get ahead for once. We love and miss Hawaii! We make it work. We learned how to cook all of the local comfort foods. Just missing the beaches. You bring ALOHA where ever you go! You can make it paradise as best as you can. It is sad that Hawaii is so expensive for Locals! We need to stop selling land to non locals. Meaning people that have not been born and raised in the islands. These mainland people and foreigners think they can come to Hawaii and just take over! Yes Hawaii is beautiful but they don’t respect the people or the land! Life in Hawaii growing up was good! I knew everyone in our town. We never had big drug problems or crime. We just lived off of the land and made it work!

Hawaii is getting exactly what it deserves. Politicians did absolutely nothing to prevent home prices, rent prices, utility costs, food costs and everything else from skyrocketing. And now that they have driven locals from Hawaii, they are going to see a shortage of essential workers, and decreased revenue from taxes into state coffers, which will put the state into a crisis. The only people left in Hawaii will be the extremely wealthy and the extremely poor, and since we all know that rich people don't pay their fair share of taxes, tax revenues will continue to drop. Then politicians will be scrambling to lure people back to the state, but it's already too late. Hawaii's chickens are coming home to roost. Too bad, so sad. You're SOOL.

I don’t know all the details but I think the local government red tape for housing and small businesses play a part too. So many shops closing in Hawaii and 0 new housing, even on Maui where they need to rebuild, what’s being done exactly? Nothing.

Now that 52k… is that before or after State, Federal, Social Security and Hawaii Rail Taxes??? 😂 You probably might end up making, if any, at least 38k… id move to da mainland… my wife and I moved to WA and we are thriving! And im kanaka! My dad is pure hawaiian and my mom is half and I struggled to leave my homeland BUT 9 years later, we own (almost paid off) a 3 bdrm 2 bath home on half an acre, paid off 2 cars and are debt free (except mortgage which is 1500.00 a month), and living very comfortably and not having to worry about finances, high taxes and cost of living. Now, it is also WHERE we live… we DONT live in a Democrat run county/municipality as we chose to buy in a very Red area since we already experienced life in a expensive tax dis and dat Democrat controlled State and let me tell you… brah, its fricken cheaper and affordable… jea saying. Dis kanaka is WAY happier! 🤙🏽 oh and stay out of King County or Seattle… its just like hawaii… garbage…

Las Vegas is not located within the metes and bounds of the Archipelago of Hawai'i. Las Vegas is located in the metes and bounds of the colonial united states of murrka. And, Lehua is the "9th island" in our Paeʻāina. Therefore, Las Vegas can't be, and will never be the 9th island. Get educated, and get your facts straight!!! Hawaii is not a paradise. According to Cambridge dictionary, paradise is defined as a place or condition of great happiness where everything is exactly as you would like it to be. All I see in Hawaii are miserable people working long hours, taking up multiple jobs, and doing jobs they hate in order to survive. They rarely even have the time to go to the beach, hiking trails, and enjoy all that nature. What makes Hawaii paradise? Most people are going to pay rent until they meet their graves. In order to pay a mortgage, they're going to have to team up with other family members and all live under a small house. Others will be on Section 8 Housing their entire life. Why? Because they don't want to move. Sad.
